Artificial intelligence and internet search just got a lot more competitive.
Google today announced the upcoming rollout of an “experimental” conversational AI service, dubbed Bard, after months of OpenAI stealing headlines and capturing buzz with its ChatGPT service. The company also plans to soon roll out new AI search, said Sundar Pichai, the Google and Alphabet CEO, in a post announcing the news.
The move comes a day before a Microsoft event where the Redmond company is expected to announce news leveraging its OpenAI partnership. Microsoft says it will “share some progress on a few exciting projects with Satya Nadella and others” at the Tuesday morning event at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond.
Microsoft last week invited news organizations including GeekWire to the event, on the condition that they not say or publish anything about it until early Tuesday morning, in advance of the scheduled 10 a.m. Pacific start time.
However, the company lifted that restriction after the Google announcement emerged.
Developing story, more to come.
