Had to make sure I wasn't subscribed to this guy. What an awful take.
This game, Stray, is definitely worth more than Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, a game many paid $100 for.
I bought this for my daughter who isn't a gamer but does love cats. Then, because it was free to do so, I also played it myself.
Yes, it's easy, and that means that if you're the sort of person who normally waltzes through Dark Souls games, you won't get much satisfaction from this. But if you're a casual, inexperienced or just not very good gamer, it's a really pleasant way to spend a few hours. It's wholesome, visually delightful, and life-affirming.
I paid £19 ($24) for it and have no regrets.
I get to play as a Cat. Enough reason for me to play this game.
This is so mean spirited. Not everyone is a hardcore gamer who wants to struggle with the same game for weeks. Some of us like simpler, manageable games. Not all of us are geniuses like Luke here, who apparently figured everything out without having to think about it. I am not abnormally stupid, and I did have to use my brain, actually. There were a few clues that took me a while to solve. It’s not as simple as “finding the nightclub” and “grabbing the vest”. You actually have to figure out a way to do those things, despite knowing their location, because the straightforward option is blocked. Also, most people who enjoyed the game (myself included) hated the “Zurk” chases. Those parts were not fun for me, and they’re the only reason I’d be hesitant to replay the game and try to get all the “side quests”. This review let me know to do the opposite of what this man says, because our tastes could not be more different. I loved not having to wonder where I could jump, and it was amazing not having to figure out how to make a jump. These are things that usually take away from the fun of other games, for me. Overall it was a fun game, relaxing and engaging enough. The Zurks did piss me off a few times and I wished they had left them out of the game, and especially the gun thing was a nightmare. Once that part was done, the game became fun again. I am glad I paid the money for this game, as I’d rather support independent developers who came up with a fun idea and created a unique game.
Not every single game ever made needs to be difficult, dude. Not every game needs to make you think about every fucking second of gameplay. I think spending 30 dollars for a “mindless” as you put it, experience that lasts for over a few hours is perfectly fine. Games are supposed to be fun. Difficult and thought provoking doesn’t always equal fun, nor does easy and “mindless” equal NOT fun. Chill out and give the indie team the credit they deserve for making a pretty, cute and relaxing game
You are incredibly petty, dude
Thus game does seem very boring
😂never understood why this game had so much hype and this proves it
Well to sum up, if you are not a cat lover, then yes you can apply price to value mindset for Stray, but if you a cat lover, then it's a must buy game. If you a cat lover, Seeing people playing Stray, I dont think you can hold the urge to play as a cat yourself
5-10$ definitely better, 30$ being too much is kinda true
It took me 8 to 10 hours to complete it
This is the most overrated game I've ever played
Jesus, I disagree totally with this guy. I must be dumb, because I break games like this up into a few nights…I took my time, not rusheding through the story…and it took me maybe 3 or 4 nights…maybe 2-3 hours each night…I took my time and couldn't believe the quality of the graphics…coloration, and downright genius of making a game story like this, with robots and a cat…and his companion robot. The game deserves a 9 or a 10 because of the thought behind something totally different. No shooting bad guys for a change??? God forbid.
The attention to detail and programming it must have taken to create this game graphically and make it play so flawless is genius. I'm sure this reviewer could not create a game like this or dream to draw the digital artwork. Its done in such detail and not put together carelessly. I also thought some puzzles were a real challenge, and I had to roam around and think twice and three times about some of them. I guess I'm just dumb according to this reviewer. I played on PS4 at the time, and now I might re-download on PS5 since I have the PS Extra membership.
By the way, cats are EXTREMEMLY NIMBLE AND HAVE INSANE BALANCE. So that's why developers made the cat so good on his feet.
Stray is unique, and the graphics and though behind it are truly one of a kind….whether you get it on gamepass…PS Plus extra…or God forbid drop the precious 30 bucks…you will really be amazed at the quality this game offers…
This game is short but I love it. I literally love the atmosphere and homliness of the slums and midtown that I want to find a game that feels similar. Anyone know 1 ? Defo should pay for this game support them
I think if you actually finish that game in 3.5 hours, you didn‘t play the game, you speed-ran it. And yes, then 30 bucks is a waste. Everyone else is taking in the atmosphere and the story. I thought those 30 were better spend than the 60 for some of the Assassins Creed To-Do List Simulators.
This game is a nice little thing, problem with it is there is a lack of mechanics, felt more likely a kids story than a game, fully contextual jumps and a couple running sections with light beam moments. They need to expand this stuff and find a way to have platforming return to games instead of “look there’s the jump button for where my protag can automatically go to”
This game is like putting on some relaxing music or watching something really cute and mindless to relax and wind down for a bit before bed.
Even though this game is pretty short I had an amazing time playing it, even played it 2x all the way through
"Stray" is a gem in allegorical storytelling (it reflects on the human condition without having a single human character in it), in a way that allows the pros and the casuals to enjoy this game the same way, and it makes you think and reflect. It deserves all the praise, and the devs deserve the money. Buy it. We need more of these games.
Finish in a single evening? Who has done that or would want to do that? Its not THAT short especially if you explore. This is a great indie game.
What's with this psychosis on this game? It's most overrated game of 2022, hands down.. All there is is novelty of being a cat (and I'm cat lover, I have 5 cats at home!!!) but this gets really old over poor narrative delivery and shallow puzzles and generally gameplay.
kj
I cant take this review seriously after the night club comment. Complaining that a damn night club is loud and easily noticeable
Honestly the game was super boring
I think the game is perfect for kids
100% agree on the game but you shouldn’t call peoples comments pedantic.. that’s ego driven superiority garbage
It just sounds like this guy wants it to be a totally different game.
It being easy and "mindless" is a strength. Most of the people enjoying the game don't want to see the cat die.
The open areas are a joy to explore and the story has some strong emotional moments.
If listening to music next to that robot was the highlight, why would you want finding the note sheets to be more of a hassle?
The game got praise purely because "It's a cat game uwu, i luv cats :3". The game was absolutely boring and stopped it 1 hour in. Literally a cat walking simulator, not anything exciting in this case.
Luke I usually enjoy your videos but I genuinely don't know what you were thinking with this one. Stray isn't meant to be some groundbreaking, inventive, 30+ hour monster of a game. It's a cute, chill game made by an indie dev team (would also like to stress It's their FIRST game as well) and ESPECIALLY compared to other money hungry undeserving developers who churn out the same bullshit like Ubisoft for example, why wouldn't you wanna support this small dev team? Very weird take man
You know what just add cute gimmicks and options for petting they'll give it a 10/10
I understand why ppl like stray but at the same time i myself don't think it's a "good game"
So much toxoplasmosis in this comments section
I feel like stray is the perfect game for people that don't play video games. No risk, simple story, easy gameplay, cute and fun visuals. Easy to pick up and put down, and depending on the users experience, could make them explore more games.
That's great and all
One small issue
Kat
Buy it if you agree that drinking water is good for you
This video reminded me why I stopped watching your content. People seem to enjoy it though. Good for them
THIS GUY HATES CATS!
Hard disagree on almost everything said in this video. I found "Stray" to be a charming, relaxing and engaging experience. The platforming-lite game play worked for me because you generally don't see cats stumbling all over the place when you jump. Their movements are (usually) very calculated and precise, and that is what the designers were trying to emulate in the game. The puzzles were not super hard, but nor did they put me to sleep. I found a couple challenging such as getting to the elevator because they mixed in action with it.
It is disingenuous to say the UV light isn't "touched on again" as if they just ignored it. The device burns out and that's part of the narrative and adds a level of challenge to the game play after you lose the weapon. Considering so much of this video is spent bemoaning the difficulty level of the game, I would think that any increase in difficulty (however minor) would have been welcomed.
I cannot understand the comment that watching the game on a live stream is the same as playing it. I played through the game, then watched two different streams of the whole game and the experience was completely different. When I played Stray, B/12 and I were on an adventure "together". When I watched other people play it was their own singular experience including their emotional reactions as they played. While I enjoyed the streams, but my level of engagement with the game and central characters was one step removed versus my own play through.
In terms of value, I think any work of art should be valued at how it makes you feel. Between playing as Stray and the Cyberpunk world, this game spoke to me on many levels. The art direction was fantastic and I found so many aspects charming in a way few games can manage. I think the game is worth the $30 and the developer deserves support for doing something unique and interesting.
That title change, not very nice
Tbh, I fell for the hype and purchased the game think It's will be amazing
turn out it's a fine game but get overhype so much on the internet.
the game is beautiful and full with aesthetic but the gameplay is kinda mindless
the platfroming is non exist the puzzle is piss easy and the exploration is so unrewarding.
I don't think the lenght and the deph of the game is worth $30.
but if you want to support Dev or a cat lover or want to play something mindlessly chill, go for it.
Stray is pretty much a 30 dollar walking simulator
Loving the community spirit down here, drag his ass i love to see it ❤❤❤
Having waited for this game since 2018 and having preordered it on Steam a while before release, I have to say that while I was disappointed in the length of the game itself, everything else had me in awe. Envirments are beautiful, music so great I bought the soundtrack, cat animations are surprisingly realistic and I found that even the optional story elements with the memories added a bit of depth to the story I really enjoyed. I played through it twice, once just as a normal playthrough and once to 100% it, and I'm still probably going to try to get all the steam achievements eventually. I feel like Stray is more of an interactive movie than a game, which has it's ups and downs, but as an art piece, I find it hard to find anything in it that I disliked. I just want more of it, and hopefully DLC might make that happen, and if not it's still going to be one of those games I play through once in a while since you can finish it in one afternoon, a bit like Journey.
It's a very specific game that won't appeal to everyone, especially not the hard core gamer crowd, but I think that it succeeded at what it set out to do and is also extremely approachable, making it easy for kids or people without any tech literacy to play.
It's no Disco Elysium in terms of depth and replayability, but it's still a dope little art piece I'm glad I paid for. These are the kind of projects I want to see more of.
Also a huge shame that physical versions only are for PlayStation, but I might still just get it or the vinyl soundtrack because I loved the game so much.
I fuckin love this game (also I did not pay for it)
I agree, no gameplay at all in this game, i never had planned to buy it for that reason, it did not looked interesting.
I appreciate you changing the video title. I think it’s totally fine if it’s a game you personally wouldn’t spend money on, but I do think a lot of people may see the video title and decide to skip a game that they may have bought, tried, and loved. Also, supporting devs is the way to go.
Never seen such coordinated comments against Luke’s opinion
The game is 100% worth 30 dollars
And i think its disrespectful to not support these developers who made a wonderful
Fun game
Not to mention unique and creative
Is it game of the year compared to god of war or elden ring no
But its an amazing videogame for the fun it brings
Its simple fun
I'm not a cat person. Never had one, don't want one. But. I've really enjoyed this one. It's worth the price. If you burn thru it, I could see it being quick. But I've had a decent time with it. This is an easy enough Platinum that a 2nd play wound be my recommendation. Love Luke. Go watch Mystic, and his take on it as well.
