Um isn't the monkey king just a story bot a part of mythology
I can’t wait to see what other characters from JTTW might appear, maybe Kwan Yin, Prince Nezha, Erlang Shen, Jade Emperor, Bull Demon King etc. there’s a lot to choose from and all of them would be awesome.
Also, I just want to mention, Sun Wukong does not have 72 transformations, he has infinite, only limited by his own imagination, the 72 refers to the celestial power that his shape shifting comes from (I think, it might have been a mistranslation when I was researching some stuff about Wukong for a book I’m planning to write). You can tell he must be able to transform into more than 72 things because throughout JTTW, he transforms into people and creatures that wouldn’t have existed at the time he got his abilities

I think that's actually the Six Eared Macaque not Wukong. Because the Transformations lack the Tail and he does not wear the golden headband

I do love the Dark Souls trilogy, but mostly because of the lore and design of all three games, the difficulty wasn't a downer for me but also wasn't drawing me further in.

i dont think the old man at the start and end is the main character of journey to the west, i think he is an old monkey king. for starters, he has a monkey face if you look closely, and he has the same kind of facial hair.
There is another thing to take into account with his heavenly art of transformation. It is not the literal number of transformations. He has that particular ability is the number of times you have to kill him for him to actually be dead he can transform into way more things than the name suggests
In the original story of journey to the West, The monk that wukong traveled with was known as the reincarnation of Golden cicada
It’s a technique called “the 72 transformations” he can basically turned into anything, even a fighting temple (yes you read that right) but he has 72 lives which is funny because he has over 100 layers Of immortality
For all we know, the Black Myth series might not just cover Chinese mythology, but mythologies in general. Hell, there's potential for a Black Myth: Heracles that includes the labors that Heracles had to undertake or even possibly a Black Myth: Cu Chulainn.
