I could see it remaining within the same “application,” like the call of duty launcher allowing you to play several titles under one icon, but they can’t expect people to still play GTAO when a whole new game finally comes out. Progress won’t carry over, they want you to have to start over with an incentive for micro transactions
I hope GTA 6 online DOES come out and I hope that rather than futuristic vehicles that are too overpowered we get something like balanced mech suits that would definitely be strong but very expensive and with a cooldown, similar to the AST's from call of duty advanced warfare

I want all my progress of my character to carry over with having access to everything I own in LS, possibly being able to transfer/travel back and forth between Vice City and LS. In summary with GTA Online with GTA 6, I basically want us expanding our criminal empire into VC and for R* to build upon the idea of you being the head of a massive criminal organization, implementing stuff like having access to NPC gang members, or employees like what we got with our businesses, that we command and have carry out our illegal activity while also fighting side by side with them. This sort of thing, I’d love to have in GTA 6 single player, but with what we’ve seen so far that probably won’t happen.
Im pretty sure this is going to be what a lot of the AAA developers do and support the title with a skeleton crew after pushing out the major updates they had in mind, whilst the main development team works on the new installment.
Also "why would they add this huge grind now?" Pretty simple, longevity for those that stick around. Something to always do whilst not pushing out any more or very few content updates.
Its pretty logical imo and people are trying to find an ocean in a puddle when it comes to the online portion with GTA6

I think GTA Online will continue to have server support, however DLC's will no longer be released and the only support will be fixes to servers and security, and that a new GTA Online will be made for the GTA 6 rage engine, will be included in GTA 6 which will have most of Rockstar's focus. I agree it is an issue that the naming will be confusing and "GTA Online 2" simply doesn't sound appealing, so I think GTA Online (gta 5) will be renamed to GTA Online Legacy, or something to denote that this online version is a redundant version, and GTA 6 will have their online service that will adopt the title of "GTA Online" as to state the main online service has transitioned over.
Gta 6 is going to have majority of the games content locked behind gta + and R* doesn't give a shit if it's terrible value they will force everyone to buy it or have a really bad unfair limited experience and everyone will rant about it but R* literally just wont care. I gave my xbox to my brother and I don't play gta anymore and I'm not buying gta 6. Rip when Gta used to be good.
They shat the bed with Red Dead Online. Dont be surprised at all if they do the same with GTA 6 Online. They will already have your money from the story mode

I expect GTA 6 releasing with story mode only, a year or 2 later they will release GTA 6 Online, probably.
Businesses will probably stay for the better, but they really need more depth and need to be fun.

Maybe they will have a selector for gta 5 and 6 servers when you load into the game.

Personally I think we all need a new fresh start with a new gta online. no extreme inflation, no decades worth of gimmicks, hacks, and shark jumping.

i think it would be cool if we could choose to move to vice city but you cant take your cars so they stay and you can only use them in los santos
