Samsung is collaborating with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) to broadcast the Paris 2024 Games this summer.
For the first time, the opening ceremony will take place outside of a stadium, as the athletes will parade on floating platforms on the Seine. Over 200 units of the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be mounted on these boats, streaming the parade over a private 5G network.
The broadcast will be done in collaboration with Orange, which is installing more than a dozen 5G antennas along the river. There will also be relay boats acting as antennas during the parade.
The same technology will be applied to the sailing competitions in Marseille, a Mediterranean city 650 km south of Paris, allowing fans to follow their favorite Olympians on their path to glory.
Samsung says this is the next step in its three-decade participation in the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. The company traditionally hands out its latest smartphone to all participating athletes and has given away over 120,000 mobile products since Nagano 1998.
We expect to see what device the athletes will get this year. It might be a custom-made Galaxy S24 Ultra, but it could also be the latest foldable, expected to launch in a few weeks.
