Played this on sega cd
it's such a pity the Herbert Foundation is keeping a strangehold on all the old Dune products, which effectively means GOG is unable to secure the rights to rerelease the game. I've only ever been lucky enough to get hold of the floppy version of this game, while the CD version remains elusive, or at least massively expensive when a copy finally comes up for sale.
Very strange game this was… brilliant RTS as successor it has.
Played this on Amiga. I don't think I was very good at it, but I loved the atmosphere, and the music was so so good.
It feels so bad to know the layout and gameplay of this game AND the lore of dune from a 2010's lewd flash game.
dude
never heard about this or seen the film then a friend gave me a copy on disk in high school in 1997 and i was hooked…. stopped doing home work for 2 weeks just to finish it a really great game that ran great on a 486
I did not like christopher walkin as shaddam iv that took me right out in the newest dune movie
Why did they make two Dune games so close together?
The video looped at the beginning of the game was used a lot as a demo on PC systems in PC stores at the time
I also prefer the music of the 1984 version over the new versions
So glad I still have my CD-ROM copy of this game after all this time, I originally had a copy for the amiga and I upgraded to pc after that.
3:44 every time i hear "full motion video" I think of the AVGN from the Sega CD episode. "Full motion video my ass! I'd rather be full fuckin screen!"
Anyone else ever notice that PAL and Euro videogame boxart – for any videogame – is always significantly better than the US boxes?
One of Cryo Interactive's best games, even with a surprisingly cool and atmospheric midi soundtrack by Stephen Picq. I don't like the minor 1984 film visual elements, because Cryo's developers actually bothered to create their own visual esthetic for the game, the landscapes, tech and characters. The game's all the better for it, despite a few holdover elements from the film. It maybe made some marketing sense, but it was rather superfluous. Though it's a somewhat dated game in terms of gameplay, it's a nice blend of adventure, strategy and simulation. A good example from the early 1990s that, with a bit of experimentation and boldness (even while working on a licensed property), you could create an engaging multi-genre game.
Where's the Westwood games? That was my first introduction Dune and RTS games! I didn't even know there was a movie let alone a book back then …..nostalgia
Hello Clint! Do you know the game "Lost Eden"? It was published by Virgin games two years after Dune, and done also by Cryo Interactive, using the same game engine (improved), and most of the Dune's crew, including me for the music (digitized)! Maybe you should hace a look?
😮 Did not play this one… did not know it existed…
But I did play, Behind the Dune 🤦🏻😅 …
We need new Dune titles like this 😊😅
1:36 I actually think the acting is better in 1984
2:04 that POD box. I played that game so much back in the day. I was horrible at it. First racing game I remember having damage on your vehicles (I'm sure there were others before it, that was just the first one I played.)
Love your Channel LGR!
Watched this after watching Dune 2. Good job
"It's no popcorn bucket, but it'll do!" -Some guy named Clint
15:39 Miner relocations?
Denis also designed his Chani based on Cryo's
Many thanks! I seek and take soundtrack 🙂
Nothing more manly than enjoying a good old Virgin game!
Dune was my first RTS game back in the day. Loved it!
no wonder dune ii is the one people remember
POD!
i LOVED this game as a kid, it was my first exposure to the dune universe.
My first introduction to the Dune universe was playing Dune 2.
I remember wondering what Dune 1 was all about and a friend’s older brother saying it was a totally different game.
2:18 A little bit spicy
Interesting. I remember the RPG elements, but I completely forgot the strategy ones. They look so similar to Dune: Spice Wars!
I beat this game in my early teens decades ago. Great game!
"Not to say there's no satisfaction at all." "Good to see these Harkonnens beatin' off." "…excuse me, what?" This had me (figuratively) in stitches. Sounds like some juvenile college frat party punishments. And to each their own there, Stilgar.
The first Dune movie had a big Heavy Metal energy.
I'm beaten off a Harkoneen or two in my day
Is the voice of Gurney Halleck the G man from Half life?
The Baron looks awesome 😂😂😂😂😂
Excuse me what?
Dune 2/2000 ?
awesome vid, congrats!
💯🤣 popcorn bucket
I wish I could go back in time and play this game when I was younger. Did you ever play "Loom" which I think must have come out at around the same time.
This video is my first ever exposition to Dune. The only thing I knew about this was the recent movies. The existence of them, as I haven’t seen them.
I still have my re-release copy of Dune. It still came in a big box, but it didn't cost much when I bought it brand new about fifteen or so years ago. I never did get around to playing it properly before I upgraded my computer and the hardware was no longer compatible.
I didn't have a Soundblaster or Adlib card, but I did have an MPU-401 adapter with a Roland CM-32 MIDI module. The soundtrack played with true MIDI over headphones was really immersive. So many DOS games of the era were so much better played over a MIDI sound module for music.
