Dre!!! 😢
1)Okay, so The Black Dragon spits Acid. The other types are Green- Poison gas, Blue- Lightning, White- Ice, and Red-Fire.
2)The Undead wizard is Szass Tam. He's a figure from D&D lore from the Forgotten Realms setting, and leader of the they Red Wizards of Thay.
3)Chris Pine is playing a Bard, which is the same character class as Scanlan. Bards are Jacks of All Trades- Masters of none. They are the musicians and poets and lore masters. The can cast spells but not as well as a Wizard or Cleric, they can fight, but not as well as one of the warrior classes, and they can do thief-like stuff, but not as well as a rogue. They can do a little bit of everything, but not as well as a class that specializes in it.
4)Michelle Rodriguez is playing a Barbarian. They tend to be big, strong, berserkers.
5)Rege-Jean Page is playing a Paladin. They are the ultimate good guys. Holy warriors on a mission to destroy evil, and sworn to do good wherever they go.
Justice Smith is either a Wizard or a Sorcerer. Both are arcane spell casters. Wizards study magic and learn spells by studying them, whereas Sorcerers have magic in their bloodlines. They don't need to cast a spell like a wizard does, they just will it to happen. They can empower spells in unique ways, but are far more limited in what they can cast because they cant pick up new spells as easily as a wizard. he also looks to be either an elf, or a half-elf
6)Sophia Lillis is playing a Druid. They are they same thing Keyleth was. Shape shifting guardians and worshipers of nature. but whereas Keyleth is a half-elf, Sophia Lillis' character looks to be a tiefling, which is a mortal who has demonic blood somewhere in the family tree. The family members manifests in are m=born with demonic traits like horns and a tail and sometimes odd color skin (red, purple, blue, etc).
Fun fact guys. Michelle Rodriguez plays a barbarian. In dnd barbarians are known to be… fast and furious. ;). I guarantee that is intentional.
The red dragon is not out of shape, he's just bony.
Grog is a Barbarian and so is Fast and Furious
Scanlan is a Bard and so is Star Trek Dude
Keyleth is a Druid and so is the girl that turned into the Owlbear.
All the characters have classes which have the same or similar abilites
They can legit put the real Vecna in this movie lol
If y'all want a funny rundown on the different core classes in D&D look up Jocat here on YT and his "Crap Guide to D&D (5th edition)" they are funny as hell and pretty accurate. Many D&D parties go for fairly similar mixes of classes so that a party is balanced to face various threats.
Guardians of the Galaxy were inspired by D&D so shared the 'typical' party make up too.
Yeah you nailed it. That was a "gelatinous cube" they jumped into. Though in the word of Dungeons and Dragons a gelatinous cube is a very dangerous thing to be inside. The eat their pray by dissolving it within the cube… it's made of acid.
The shapeshifting girl is a Druid and a tiefling, a descendant of humans that made a deal with a powerful fiend that infused that fiend's essence into them. Their descendent still carry that taint, so they have fiendish characteristics like horns and tails and frequently colorful skin.
Acid
That Dragon is out of Shape!…I DIED
Of all the trailers coming out this weekend, this one worked the best on me. I cannot wait to see this movie!
Sooo hyped for this movie, all I want from it is an entertaining dnd campaign. And nice to see you guys pulling similarities from vox Machina! As others have already said, some of the classes of the characters are the same as the VM crew
So let me nerdsplain, j/k enjoy it. Your interpretations are fun.
You saw a blue dragon use lightning breath in Legend of Vox Machina, now you got to see a black dragon spew acid
Dude… the Redhead turned into an Owlbear. She is a Druid. They can shapeshift
Ayy bro don't body shame that red dragon like that, it's a chonky dragon ;-;
anyway, love the reaction!
If u dont know this thats the bard with the lute
As someone who lived thru the abomination of the late 1990s D&D movie, I agree, would love to see someone try to actually tell a story in the world.
If you build it, I will come.
Great show as usual ‼️🍻
Critical Role's Vox Machina are a pretty standard and stereotypical DnD party. Their races might be a little varied with the gnomes and goliath but the their base characters and traits are pretty standard. Which is not surprising considering the characters were made for a one-shot originally and some of them were brand new to DnD. What VM did exceptionally online was weave great characters and story telling through the talents of the Dungeon Master and voice actor players which built an audience.
Both Scanlan and chris Pine's characters were bard. Hence why they have musical (magical) instruments.
Both Keyleth, who you saw polymorph into all sorts of creatures, and this girl, who polymorphs into an owlbear (rules aside), are of the druid class. They do look similar thematically as well but a druid wearing green is not unusual and red hair with a green dress is pretty common as the colours are complimentary in art (i.e. Triss in The Witcher, Poison Ivy in Batman, Merida in Brave, etc.) that it may just be a coincidence.
So in D&D Dragons are very diverse, and based upon coloration/type they get different abilities, physicality: The Black Dragon for instance has an Acid Breath Attack, which y'all saw.
Also there are Metallic dragons, like Gold or Copper, which are inherently good because they were made by a good deity, whereas Chromatic dragons, like Black or Blue or Red, are inherently evil because the Dragon Queen of Greed, Tiamat, made them.
I dare yall to tell a dragon he's out of shape to his face. But Chris Pine is a bard like Scanlan.
I am so very excited to see this movie! I hope you watch it when it's released and we can discuss!
the guitar…is a bards lute… Bard is dungeons and dragons character
Looks kinda lit
So let me explain about the dragon
In DnD each Chromatic Dragon Breath is represented by their scale color, for example a Blue Dragon is a Lightning Dragon, a Red Dragon a Fire Dragon.
So what we saw was a Black Dragon, which spits Acid.
So what they are doing is not only showing that "Dragons are different in colors" but also their physical aspects and breath are unique to each kind of Chromatic Dragon.
Same with the other Dragon, which is why he is a Chubby one.
A few answers for your questions:
1. The dragon early on is a black dragon and they breathe acid. (blue breathe lightning like in Vox Machina, red do fire, green do poison, white do cold.)
2. Is that Vecna? Probably not, but possible. Much more likely is "Venger". The 80's cartoon had a bad guy with one red horn sticking out of his head. Having them steal a red horn, makes me think they're going to reference that.
3. Owlbears are ridiculous monsters that have been around in D&D for decades, kind of a running joke.
4. The redhead in the video is a tiefling druid. So she has horns while Keylith from Vox Machina chose to wear antlers. Lots of druids come from celtic backgrounds so redheads are a common look.
5. Chris Pine's character is a bard. It's a class, or profession, like Scanlan from Vox Machina. He's said in interviews his character doesn't have any powers, so he may not do as much magic, but there are subclasses that do more or less with magic, so it fits the game rules.
5.5 Michelle Rodriguez's character is a Barbarian, like Grog was. But with her different race, she's not quite as big, but she should go into rages like Grog could.
Anything else?
