The enemies aren't damage sponges if you utilize elemental damage. I noticed the low, gray damage numbers coming from your enemies which signifies that you're weren't optimizing your damage output.
Different factions and bosses have different elemental weaknesses. For example, in your fight with Mr. Freeze you were doing really, really low damage. If you wouldve equipped fire elemental damage then those damage numbers would have increased DRAMATICALLY.
