no matter what it makes sense to protect your device and tempered glass is a great way to do that but with the 512 theres a issue
use normal tempered glass you delete the anti glare use anti glare tempered glass and you dull the screen brightness and colors from having 2 layers of anti glare
so a 256 with an antiglare screen protector is the better way to go or a 64 if you want to upgrade and at the time i last looked into this (last year) a 1tb ssd cost less than the upgrade price to go from 64-512 model of steamdeck
I have the 64gb version and upgraded the storage to 1tb. The case is still really good quality for the 64gb aswell. You cant even see the difference of screens with the 64gb vs the 512gb. The matte screen in the 512gb only spread thr reflection, which doesnt really hide the reflection, but distortes it. Anti glare isnt quite the case. The color is better with a normal screen aswell imo. Dont let the 512gb screen decide your purchase, it is not worth 250 usd more. Buy the 64gb model, buy an 1tb ssd for 100-120 usd, then buy all the accessories you need! Youll still be under the price of the 512gb and even under the price of the 256gb version wgule getting 4x or 2x the value of the other two. Installing the Steam os is also extremly easy along with replacing the ssd yourself.

The screen does NOT scratch easy. The switch gets scratched so fast and on my steam deck ive yet to get one scratch, givin i take care of it and leave it in the case when not in use but the screen is very durable for regular use
I love how steam basically says with the steam deck that you can buy the cheap one and upgrade it yourself over time to be equivalent to the highest tier. They could have easily soldered that 64gb of storage to the board and then just done that with all storage besides to sd card. Imagine that

Dunno if I'm the only one, but I don't really like the matte finish 'anti-glare' monitors out there. In my experience, they just take a small reflection and make it bigger and blurrier and the colors look less vivid. Plus I kinda like that glossy shine when you've just cleaned the steam deck screen.
The major decision is. buy a 3050-3060 laptop for the same price u will be 10x happier with it lol. 40fps w a shitty game list VS being able to play every game on every launcher stream/record anything u want too at 100fps full pc functionality instead of just partial a 144hz display… CSGO at 300+ fps.. for the same price.. it’s honestly a no brainer. Steam decks r a horrible deal. I would’ve bought one if they priced it at like 250$ at most. Simply bc a 500-800$ laptop absolutely blows that thing away. It’s not worth it’s price at all.

use vibrant deck it adds back the color loss and adds more if yoy want it literally counters the anti glare and you have a beautiful display

Anti glare screen protectors will make image quality on the steam deck worse the whites will have a grainy look to them
Upgraded my 64gb with a 1tb ssd I got for $80 on Amazon. Double the storage of the highest model for almost $200 less!

Colors are brighter on the 512gb model. Add the worse screen with the anti glare protector and really drown out the colors.

Why would you even use Steamdeck outside? I mean it's perfect for gaming at work or at home, but its not a pocket console
