Thank you all for your comments and feedback! I absolutely want to play this game now (and the one before it). It was a lot of fun to see the clips I was shown, and I was really impressed with the game!
I am happy to provide references and citations for what I’m talking about here. I know what I know about Norse mythology thanks to a lot of amazing experts in the field, who have written some great books and articles that I consult regularly as I teach this material!
And if you’re at the UofA, I’ll be teaching myth again in the fall term and Vikings in the winter 😊
The Yggdrasil in the temple wasn’t the actual tree but only a representation Freya tells this to Kratos and Atreaus after announcing they must go to alfheim
this woman is pretty
That is interesting i just realized that lucifer was also the most beautiful being in the heavens according to christianity and with his death came the "end of the world", beginning of the end for humanity anyways, the origins of sin .. am i on to something?
Yeah, she needs more context it’s not her fault.
i appreciate the wikipedia monologue from expert but I would really like to know what she thinks of the dialogue – arguably the most important part in adaptations like this. i dont think she even heard a single line because she keeps reciting things I can google myself
God of War + QD-OLED + HDR= Amazing game
She definitely didn’t get it haha 😂
What happened at 2:04 lmao
I recommend pausing for commentary so you can listen to the dialogue as well
god you guys could have produced such a good video with this but just decided to do 0 work and let her go in with no context. She would have found the game lore about Odin's eye hilarious.
5:05 In the game Freyja tells you that this isn't Yggdrasyl and that it's a representation of it. Cmon guys
Man there’s a bunch of stuff that’s mentioned and detailed in the game that I wish I could give her context to.
Remember that EVERYTHING you are saying as expert is fiction right? Including your studies under these mythology, so yeah dont try to later disorientate us by making it like they were real facts.
If she would listen for a second. He says “that’s my frig”….so she’d know freya and frig are the same person. Guys give her some context here…
Kratos is a Greek god
Wait SOO DOES SHE KNOW THAT THIS GAME IS A MIX OF GREEK and NORSE mythology PUT TOGETHER ?😅
I would never miss a class of yours!
Man, this video should have been like an hour and a half. She wasn't given nearly enough context. They shifted between the two different games for a while, so there wasn't even timeline continuity. I would have loved to seen her breakdown with proper game timeline chronology.
The only reason it's different from the actual mythology to because kratos changed the fate of the entirety of the mythology
Her knowledge blows me away
It is mentioned in the game to Kratos that that "tree" is only a representation of the real Yggdrasil. Which should have been brought up here to the expert.
Sucks they didnt tell her these games deliberately took creative liberties to tell a different story from real Norse mythology
For a bit of context, Kratos is from Greek mythology as he is Zeus' son. In the first 3 games Kratos killed the Greek gods including Zeus, he became known as the god of war after killing Aries.
I wonder what "Aw digr bikkja! Dumbr bak-rauf!" means?
If she does end up playing both games she will get so much missing context and a ton of details that was missed.
