I know I’ve at least caught the 15 lbs fish but other than that idk
Don’t know if this has been mentioned but it is actually possible to get the heart piece without the scale. You equip the iron boots, sink down to the bottom, hook shot to the box and remove the iron boots midair. It may not be possible in the 3DS version due to the change in the way the iron boots work but it was possible in the original.
sorry this is late please read it thought and i am not bragging i am just saying that i spent half an hour fishing and caught a 20 pound fish and my brother spent an hour and got a 16 pound fish

I ended up following this let's play a couple years ago and quit at some point. I couldn't remember why but I wanted to come back to this let's play to finish it once and for all. Then I get to this. And the memories come back. The horrible, horrible memories trying to follow you throughout this walkthrough and the rage quitting after spending 5 HOURS on this bullshit. Now after doing this for another 3 hours on this crap, I've spent nearly 300 rupees exiting and reentering the fishing pool spending a fuck load of rupees reloading the room to get the fish I need to be where I need it. Only to be ruined when another damn fish starts gnawing on the bait scaring the big one away. Well that happened about 5 fucking times. Now every time I do get the right fish to grab onto the bait I always get him like this close > < and the damn thing just runs away. And now I'm about ready to quit again. Now please can someone please reply and give me a few tips on how to do this. Cause I can't do this without any tips. I've searched a bit of other videos but none of them have helped. I just want to beat this game 100%.

I did it with the iron boots
it's funny how as he talks about the loach it enters the shot as he catches the other fish

I've mastered it – all you need to do is DO NOT TARGET on him, use the Hammer, use a Deku thing then konk him with the Hammer, finished him in under a minute
I went into the house thing. went to the bottom with my iron boots, took out my hook shot and kept shooting the box randomly until the noise happened. it seemed to work for me >:U so woo no fishing

Side note: just for shits and giggles I went to the house, wore my iron boots, sank, heard the noise I did something good, removed the boots and floated back up and got the heart piece. YEAP, I didnt fish! So this is another way to get the heart piece.
