MUFON UFO Database Goes Private – What They're Not Telling You

I figured it was because the US government used some of their reports in their document dump. I was thinking they were wanting to become a government organization that receives tax payers funding for their work. That was my guess. I thought it was funny that the government’s document dump had a lot of MUFON material/information in them. I think half of what they released was just things MUFON had investigated, but not confirmed (abductions, pregnancies etc) and people jumped on making their conclusions that this stuff was actually happening.

I think it’s bizarre they shut the site down for public viewers, those random people are the ones reporting ufo sightings, now only members can report ufo sightings, that doesn’t make much sense, so anyone who remains anonymous must now become a member to report it? Strange?

API and scraper traffic can add up. People or governments likely scraping information, constantly hitting the database with requests, not caching the data previously pulled or leveraging the MUFON data for their own "proprietary" service.

With the paywall and likely new login credentials they can monitor who is accessing what volume of data, turn off the spigot if needed, as well as get some additional funding.
