I would say however that this review is not spoiler free hahaha. Playing as Atreus, the spear, vanaheim crater etc
I don’t necessarily understand why this guy is my new favorite gaming YouTuber but he certainly is
No seriously, its been a while since we had a solid, fantastic story driven single player game. Those are the things that keep me alive tbh I’m not big on multiplayer. And single player games are getting really good these days, The last of us, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil, etc. Standards are high in here. And yet God of War (2018) and now Ragnarok keep hitting it out the park. These are just all round perfect masterpieces. It blows my mind how the devs manage to create hours upon hours of incredibly addicting content with almost negligible drop in quality whatsoever. There’s just so much to do and everything feels just as rewarding as everything else. I got the platinum a few days ago and just like what happened after I completed GOW 2018, I am now turned off from any and all single player games for probably a few weeks, if not months. This game has just set the bar so high for me that I get irritated with every other game because it just doesn’t hit the same. They better drop NG+ soon because I’m just itching to get back into it.
I started playing and realized it’s definitely better than the first. Then I saw your review and thought ehh maybe a bit hyperbolic. Now about halfway through, nope I was wrong. This game is blowing me away with every passing hour. 10/10 games simply aren’t made better than this.
Play the game on a higher difficulty and you'll see the combat break down. Game is still good but playing on GMGOW and then No mercy really made clear how sloppy the combat can be especially when you have multiple enemies to juggle.
my only problems were the musphlheim challenges being too tedious and easy, and the johtanjeim section as atreus, it was way too long. other than that, fucking phenomenal game
I already have 64% of the trophies I might as well make it the first game I 100%
playing it on the hardest difficulty cuz I dont want it to end and I am hating/loving it lol all parts of it. except for Fenrir leaving us 😭
Playing as Atreus is the most boring part of this game
What i love is they listened to every little bit of feedback from the last game, fixed it, and made it better. It shows they cared about the game.
Overrated
The only thing I don't like is how movie like the devs wrote this. This game kinda feels like a marvel movie
The actual gameplay in this game really drug it down for me. The story is an easy 11/10 I cried, yelled, and whooped all plot long but going to do the sidequests where I'm rowing a boat for in silence for 80% of it, there and back, with no markers or guides, especially in vanaheim really killed my interest, spinning in circles for 5 minutes to try and find a raven and then giving up, spinning in circles for 5 minutes looking for a chime to hit, fiddling with the purple arrows areas of effect for 5 minutes trying to get the chains to light a brazier, spinning in place for 5 minutes to look for a solution to a puzzle and finding out it's reliant on a fire ball pedestal that blends in with the surroundings 90% of the time, so much of the game for me was spinning and getting frustrated. The combat feels like kratos is too slow with me spamming the guard break and the dodge button and just being stunlocked to death with no input mattering, the parry windows feel too inconsistent compared to elden ring and the souls series, and not being able to animation cancel out of looong attack animations into a parry just makes me not want to use the unlockable abilities. I love the story, and l loved seeing it play out in my own way but when the cutscenes end and the stories are done being told I go back to disinterest and frustration.
What games have you a rating of a 100
Personally best thing about the game is the variety of interesting characters and seeing how naturally they change throughout the story
Appreciate the video and agree with many of your points, but it's definitely not spoiler free
1:47 That counts for sure as a big spoiler for a lot of people . It would for me as well, but thankfully I finished the game.
It wasn't shown in the trailer and for a good reason. They want it to the a surprise in-game.
GOW Ragnarok is what happens when hype actually works to the games advantage
Ngl this shit was mid. Still better than GOW 2018.
I mean, EVERYONE predicted this game would be overrated by score. And low and behold it’s happening. Yes, I’ve played it, yes it’s good, it’s certainly not life changing, and I haven’t done 100% yet but I PROMISE you finishing it out isn’t gonna change this. It’s not a top game for 2022, and most certainly not in the running for best of all time, and even a 9/10 is pushing it, 9.8 is of course absurd. But we all predicted it for months.
The really is great, only thing that irks me is Odins dialogue or his vocabulary rather. He sounds like a modern day American talking, not like a wise and cunning old God. Even Zeus had more of a godly presence and a lot of that was owed to his dialogue
I never watched one of your game graphs before, because I didn’t realize they were reviews, and now I feel dumb 🙃
Cool review. Game looks great
Great game, though I do have one big gripe with it having just finished the main story earlier today after a LOT of sidequesting. The game played well, the story was great but the sound was a serious issue. Mostly because it was where 99% of the bugs I encountered happened.
Over 46 hours of play time (I'm on vacation, don't judge me) I had two experiences where a loot item fell through the world and out of reach and one experience where an enemy did the same and I had to wait for a while and watch Atreus shoot arrows at the floor before the game realized something was up and killed it out of sight. There was also one occasion where a couple of animals that were supposed to be pulling a sled for me got stuck in the air and I had to run around a big desert on foot until they finally got teleported to me several minutes later.
In contrast, I had sound problems constantly for every part of the game except for, thankfully, the final sequence. Missing sound effects, missing music, cutscenes that had to be restarted because the dialogue wasn't playing properly (which also disabled subtitles for some reason). Not to mention my personal favorite: I beat an optional boss out in the desert after like 20 attempts and the game apparently got so used to the boss music that it decided to just keep playing it for the next ten minutes after the fight was over. It didn't stop until I completely left the realm in question. Altogether these were still minor issues, since they didn't actually affect my gameplay at all, but I sure as heck noticed every time it happened. Considering how few problems I had with the game in every other aspect it's honestly ridiculous just how many times the sound got buggy.
Instant classic. I’ve played on give me no mercy
I loved this game way way too much especially the story it was amazing 10/10 loved it this is my game of the year hopefully they add new game plus to make it even better
After seeing the graphics I can't wait to see what a God of War created only for PS5 would look like. Holy cow. If what the developers said were true (that this game's graphics were set to test the absolute limits of the PS4) then just imagine the graphics on a God of War strickly for PS5.
Such a great game, I too spent over 30 hrs since it’s release and have no regrets. Can’t wait to platinum it then do new game plus on a harder difficulty 🤙🏾
Shame I have to wait until it's on PC.
If you used the aggregate score, which would be 96.5, it's only a point-and-a-half difference anyway, so glad you enjoyed the game! I, personally, have a few more issues with it that would sit it closer to a 90 for me (no spoilers, I promise: I often found during my playthrough that the dynamic shadows in later parts of the game would often make it difficult to see branching paths in the areas, thus limiting my exploration options in late-game, but that's just me).
If the Game Awards continue with their bad habit of nominating expanded versions of games as new titles entirely (ex: Persona 5 Royal being nominated for Best RPG when the base game lost GOTY when it came out), I wouldn't mind seeing GoWR and Elden Ring be pitted against the Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut (since it adds nearly 40 hours of extra game between Iki Island and the Legends mode). However; I wholeheartedly acknowledge that it's going to be a two-game race between this and Elden Ring.
Won't play either GoW or GoW Ragnarok for the same reason I haven't played Bloodborne, because platform exclusives are fucking retarded and should have died around the time we realized that gaming company mascots were stupid. (Yes I'm aware the 2018 GoW game is now available on PC 4 years later, that's not acceptable).
Glad it's good, just so people don't have to have buyer's remorse, though with a 2018 game that basically set the template it would have been hard to believe that they would screw it up. People clearly just wanted more Dad-man Kratos and smart of Sony not to screw that up.
I 100% agree that playing a Atreus is a major highlight
Not 100% spoiler-free if you haven't seen certain aspects of the game
So this game is definitely better and getting game of the year than elden ring
