There's a weapon called repeating crossbow near the ghostflame dragon boss which u have defeated before, just give that weapon a try pls

14:00 just right of the grace to the statue there is a Pose that you can get called “O, Mother” and the statue disappeared revealing a new way to go just before the commander boss forgot, it’s apart of the Night Sword quest you, you have all the locations open so all you have to do is fast travel to the Pose and go back to the statue

Brad you have to talk to npcs multiple times otherwise your just missing out on dialogue and important items

respectfully brad, it think the reason you're doing more damage to the main boss is probably cuz you leveled up the scadutree blessing twice right after facing the commander one! them blessings are pretty powerful
