Epic's fans have been posting the same four points in the comments, and I can't keep reposting the same responses, so if I sent you here, you said at least one of these.
"I'm angry that Steam takes 30%". – Amazon, WalMart, Best Buy, Apple's App Store, Google Play, PlayStation Store, XBox, Nintendo eShop and more all take 30%, as do plenty of other e-commerce platforms. Steam did not invent the 30% cut. Epic started pushing the 30% cut as bad to push their own platform as an alternative. And it's fine if Epic's competitive messaging pushes them taking a lower cut – I have no problem with Epic offering a 12% cut. But Steam is not abhorrently price gouging, Steam are taking an industry standard cut for aggregating their customer base.
"Steam is a monopoly." – It isn't. You do not have to publish your game on Steam. There are plenty of other stores, including Epic, Humble Store, GOG, Itch and more where you could publish instead. However, as a customer, I believe Steam delivers a superior customer experience, and so I and many others prefer to buy on Steam. The market has rewarded them accordingly. So you would be sacrificing access to a significant number of customers by bypassing Steam, but nothing is stopping you if you prefer not to be on Steam.
Since a number of you still don't believe me, here's the definition of a monopoly. You need to have exclusive control of a commodity or service to be a monopoly, and as mentioned above, there are multiple other storefronts to buy PC games without going through Steam, therefore, Steam is not a monopoly, no matter what Tim Sweeney tells you. He lies to you so that you will do his marketing for him.

"Steam should have competition." – I'm fine with competition. This is the opposite of competition. Competition would be placing a game on every store, and letting customers choose which store provides them the most value. Epic has taken away your choice because they know if they competed fairly, most customers would choose Steam. Why would you defend a company that paid to take away your choice as a consumer?
"Exclusives are the only way Epic can compete with Valve." – Then they don't deserve to compete. Seriously, if your business plan does not offer any alternative benefit (and Epic doesn't, there is no advantage to me to split my collection between Steam and Epic), and your strategy is just to make your customer's experience on their preferred platform worse, you have a poor plan – and your business does not deserve to succeed. Epic is not owed success just because they opened a store, they have to earn that success. And they haven't. Epic is trying to buy a seat at the table they didn't earn, and I'm glad their reputation has suffered for it. I hope it continues to as long as exclusives are part of their strategy. If Epic wants to win over customers, they have to do SOMETHING better than Steam, instead of just trying to make Steam worse – and annoying the same customers they are trying to win over.
Yeah, the only reason I continue to check Epic Games is the free shit. I've done the same with Steam, but I also actually bought a few of the games there with only a few regrets.
Satisfactory made me download epic. True story
And yet, epic store still makes no money and Kingdom Hearts on steam sold gang busters. It's hilarious how badly Tim understands the pc market. They will never get an audience like this.
i have forza horizon 4 and 3 in the Microsoft store, this is a pain, i install it on a secoend drive if something happend to Windows, to delete it its a really pain and you cant do it like on steam, in steam thats my folder finish. you cant check for bad files and many more so i have Horizon 5 on steam
i forgot Borderlands 3 XD then after years i buy it in a steam sale. i dont like what epic is doing be better if you want more sales
Just buy from wherever it's cheap unless it's a bethesda game. Then you want the steam version for added mod supports. but if you dont care about modding then buy wherever it's cheap.
Epic won’t ever get the market share they want if they keep hurting consumers like this. They don’t need to hurt consumers to grow, they just have to offer a service better than Steam. Is that difficult? Probably, but that’s why nobody had a larger market share than them. Epic wants all the reward of having a large market share but doesn’t want to actually compete for it, so they do stuff like this. I hate the practice of platform exclusivity from console and streaming services, and it’s no better on PC.
Great Video!
Tbh, even if EGS gets better over time, they have to pull something so innovative to win me over. I already built up a huge library on Steam and I HATE multiple launchers. I mean even blizzard and Microsoft release on Steam😆
My Friends on Steam, Community Groups, Mods, my Profile, my Inventory, the Steam Deck, the Linux Support… There is so much more to Steam, than just Games.
Shout out to GOG! They don't have every Game, but they have many old Classics and nearly every Game is DRM free!
I'm just tired of 50 million different launchers on my computer. Steam has all my games, is fairly lightweight and often times you don't even need to run steam to play games.
EA's launcher is a requirement.
Epic's launcher is a requirement
Whoever else, you have to run their launcher/storefront to play their DRM laden trash and I'm sick of their bloatware.
The funny thing is I learn about games either from the steam Page or when they are free on epic and someone tells me ´(but the problem then is I get the free game and never play it)
SO i buy it at a later date and on steam again
But idc I like to have everything on steam and I have no reason to change that
noone should ever buy games on Epic Games, never.
they are to incompetent and cant make a platform good enough to honestly compete against Steam, instead of using their mountains of money to develop their store to be a good and proper compeditor to steam, they instead just dump that money on exclusives instead to try and force people to buy the games on their store instead.
If epic put 10 million dollars on coping steam features I am absolutely sure I would move there. But their services are terrible
Games on Epic only show its true colors when it releases on Steam because of lack of polish. Game devs use the exclusivity deal for faster profit than actual marketing. There are just as many games that flopped due to lack of trying as the ones who polished themselves during the exclusivity deal when it came to Epic exclusive games
yall need to stop crying about epic games, the china conspericry theory bullshit is huninged you people need to be on meds or something
If steam needs competition, just go to gog. Not egs. Egs aggressive approach is a lot more monopolistic than anything that steam ever done

It’s hilarious that these companies for years before they launched their own platform payed to have their games on Steam. One could make the argument that in the EARLY 2000s when Steam just launched it essentially was a monopoly. If anything in the past decade we have MORE competition. Uplay/Ubisoft Connect launched in 2012, EA’s launcher in 2011, Epic in 2018, and Rockstar Launcher in 2019. GOG started in 2008. Steam launched in 2003. It was one of the first, if not the first major online gaming streaming service.
But now there is more choice since for a while Steam was the only major game streaming service on PC from 2003-2008 but even then a case could be made that it wasnt until players like Ubisoft and EA joined in during the early 2010s that any real competition began. Also Epic really expects to beat s fanbase 21 years in the making when they’ve only released their janky ass launcher 6 years ago. I got the launcher to buy RDR2 back in early 2019 when it came to PC and it hasnt changed. It’s still awkward and the games are too big in your library making you dig through multiple pages just to find the game you want when Steam’s library feels much better.
These companies, even Epic, paid Valve to have their games on Steam, then get upset that no one is using their service. They could pull their games from steam. Just cancel the contract or wait for it to expire then go and have then exclusive. But they wont. Since
1: they know their launchers are supbar and heavily restrict what games you can buy with far less features. Fixing this would require money and effort and profit is all that matters to these companies
2: Because they arent likely to try and make a launcher as good as Steam if they pull their support from it, losing them a lot of money.
Steam is great because not only is the UI simple but pleasing, but also because it’s more. I can download source mods, maps, skins on certain games. I can post reviews, screenshots, make or read guides. I can create groups to play games with or chat. The other platforms either dont have these options or they are very barebones. If given a choice between using UConnect, EA’s launcher, Epic, GOG, or Steam. Im going Steam
I had a game i got for free in Epic. It wouldnt run properly on a new PC. Installed the SAME GAME via Steam and GOG and it worked just fine. Its the launcher that causes problems. I will NEVER buy an Epic game
Did you buy final fantasy remake?
Steam is far more pleasant to use. Epic game launcher seems for awkward to use
I will always regret buying KH1.5+2.5 and KH3 on Epic because now that i own the SteamDeck I HAVE TO jump through so many hoops to play them. Then not even a year later they come to Steam and i bought them day 1 for the price i paid for 3 ALONE
I mean, I already boycotted Epic games from my bank account and also got control for free, so if anything I’m stealing from them XD
The problem with epic is that it doesn't feel human its just buy and play there is no in between not even profile picture witch is one of the most basic feature. (also the friend list is horrible)
I just dont buy them, no matter if theyre on Steam afterwards
