Who is that actress walking with the torch in the dungeon there?
Early reviews say it is really good so will watch it
You do raise an interesting point about not punishing D&D after they did relent and change some things. I really don't care for 5e though, and I have reservations that One D&D will be more of the same. But maybe I will look at buying some older modules and settings online to support them.
I'm going to wait and see what the reviews say before I consider seeing it in theaters. I'm sure I'll watch it at some point, but I don't know if I'll pay extra to watch it. I don't particularly like going to the theater to see movies. I prefer being able to pause them when I want at home. I've also watched enough new movies by big stars that were so predictable that they were boring. I don't want to waste $25 in the theater with my wife only to be wishing I was somewhere else.
As for the TV series, I know absolutely nothing about it, other than they are developing one. I Don't know what service it will be on, and that may determine whether I see it. I'm not buying into another service just to watch it if I don't already subscribe to it.
I will most definitely pass this movie up – getting fed up with woke emasculation of men in some particular movies – I was surprised that the new D&D movie was going to be zapped by Disney-inspired woke BS.
I've always been a fan of D&D and will continue to be so, will I support them with my money…No not any longer. The OGL issue & OneD&D is a joke. Their are oversimplifying the already simple rules of 5E into this new system "One". Soon we'll just have the Class: Adventurer, and roll a d6 2-6 you win congrats…😆 They are also attempting to island themselves with oneD&D with their own VTT which they'll only allow their system to used with their own VTT outing Fantasy Grounds, Roll20, Foundry etc. They've seen how much money these sites make with a subscription models and buy for conveniences. They'll make their own and only have their site be allowed to host this new system in regards to VTT. Folks will still be able to buy their books and play at a table, but it boils down to 🦀💰🤑
I won't be seeing the movie because it looks crap.
It's an interesting choice, especially for those of us that love the hobby. How do we ensure that Hasbro Understands and see's that we will vote with our wallets, but at that same time not create a situation where people who had nothing to do with decisions, that could have negative consequences.
I want this movie to be successful. So HASBRO makes more.
If it flops in the theater, they will not
Wotc doesn't deserve every hardcore fan seeing this in matinee shows…
But Hasbro does.
However, with their response to the reaction to the OGL changes, and how they treat Magic:the gathering
That response was so Textbook Manipulative that you know they are paying someone a LOT of money to advise them in this.
We also know that they ARE actually listening to us… this is what this kinda Psychomarketing will tell them to do. We can get better content for everyone if we make them.
I like the idea of all of us hitting the matinee- and letting them know if it's good enough, or not.
The reason I am done with DnD is not because of the new OGL , it is because of the DnD youtube community which are fucking insane .
In my opinion I can no longer purchase anything done by wizard Of the coast so unfortunately even though it looks somewhat interesting I'm sticking with my pathfinders.
Now if it was pirated/friends had it where I don't have to spend any money supporting them I probably watch it.
it was never not okay to like DnD, DnD is and has been an amazing game. For a time, boycotting DnD was understandable… now its just silly, like punching yourself to stay in rage
I appreciate your kind approach, and have for many years. Boycotting something and seeing no effect from your stance is deflating. Boycotting, and seeing your efforts rewarded by change that you seek should make you proud of your efforts and happy that you have done something that preserves the game you love. If you want to appear super virtuous by continuing to punish the company that you have changed, you will not accomplish your goal. If Wotc can be an ally in our game, it will be much better than being an enemy. Win them over.
I think we all know, even the biggest anti wotc "BURN THE BOOKS!!" champions are going to be the biggest hypocrites out there and still watch the movie… In secret lol
Dungeon dudes, nerd immersion, treantmonk to name just a few
I'll see it. We got wotc to back down and change some things for the better.
I don't trust WotC/Hasbro but I bleed Dungeons and Dragons infused blood. Definitely going to see the movie. With my gaming group and possibly more.
Except this is part of the corporate MO, which is put something out there to check the response. If the response is negative, pull back, then come back at them again in a modified form. WotC has tipped its hand, it will do this again.
I'll watch the movie but probably won't be back to D&d for a while. I'm trying some other systems out, Starfinder, Cyberpunk Red, Lancer, Mörk Borg. I appreciate the victory against the corporation. If WotC had been more stubborn, I would be much more on the fence about the movie.
This looks bad. The strength of dnd is in its settings, so rather than a generalized dungeons and dragons story a ravenloft/FR/DL story would have some teeth. They should have converted a novel series, something with success. But instead it looks to be a vague vanilla turd.
I've been iffy on the movie since it was announced. Honestly, movie theatres are too expensive lately so I will probably wait until it is included on one the streaming services I have.
I’ll be watching it, if it does well in the box office than maybe we can get more high budget fantasy movies that aren’t terrible
Honestly, I was never scared by the OGL situation. I knew that the people of this hobby were too passionate to lose what they love. This movie looks great and it's coming out the day after my birthday, so I'm taking the fam to see it 😎
I don't really care whether others play D&D or not but I'm no longer supporting Hasbro/WotC and it's not a punishment it's an absolute blanket ban on anything they are involved in. I've moved on, I play OSR games and other systems several of which I think are objectively better D&D games than Wotc products. I wasn't interested in D&D beyond or their upcoming digital content, I hate the direction the system was heading in anyway. There will be no reward out of my pocket for Hasbro Wotc.. I'll take my money to creators that respect me, respect my time and create the content I want to see which Wotc has never actually done for me anyway, I detest their recycled sterilized settings. If you work for them or are invested in Hasbro and they fail due to the bad faith of Wotc and it causes you to lose your job or decrease your investment value find a new job or suck it up because it's not my problem and I'm not going to be guilt tripped into buying their products either. The issues with Wotc at this point goes way beyond the ogl issue. I'd personally like to see them go under or do badly enough they are forced to sell the IP
Had they not done a complete 180 on the OGL scenario, I would have been hard pressed to see the movie in theaters… but they did what we wanted (and more.) Which was a relief, because I want to see the movie (even though with each new clip I am less excited – looking at you Speak With Dead clip) – so glad they acquiesced… still though I hate that we basically had to put a gun to their head to get them to stop their evil bs. I won’t be uncancelling my DND beyond sub and I have moved on to other games.
Personally, my main idea to boycott the movie and WotC is because I want the people that made these decisions to begin with, be replaced! this includes Cynthia Williams, Chris Cao, and Chris Cocks. They don't have the best interests of the genre at heart, they are still only thinking about the bottom line of their pockets. I want someone in the company that has been fighting against those decisions to move up into position. It just seems like a lot of people are pulling away from pointing the blame in the right direction and is causing infighting within the community instead, which just allows them to win, or for everyone to lose. Luckily there's plenty of other systems to play, and there's nothing stopping people from making their own ideas.
Boycotting anything after what WoTC did with 5e, and them relenting on the OGL, is just fucking childish and stupid. Anyone who boycotts that is being an idiot, imo, period.
I've been playing D&D from 1980 until now, I will continue playing may not purchase any more items from them, but I have been waiting for a good D&D movie and I am sure hoping it will be good
I'm not gonna watch the movie because it looks like a bad action flick. It's not really my idea of D&D
