I just beat this game and I am sad to know that this game will not be getting a sequel. I really enjoyed this game and its sound design. They could improve so much in a second game but we all know that ain't happening.
Bro…. First time on your channel, and I wanna say that it's clear you put some genuine effort into writing the script for this video and it shows. Between the written script and the very decent editing (for the majority of the runtime anyways), your video has the feel of a much bigger channel, so great job on that. But that leads me to the reason I felt I needed to write this comment (I mean it from the heart as constructive criticism, and not at all to put you down. That said… Here goes: you shouldn't ever make an open ended statement without a conclusion. You said "this game features a bunch of well known actors" "I didn't know there names off the top of my head…but…. I could just look them up, but whatever."….. I mean come on bro, you even KNEW better than that and u did it anyways! That kind of cr@p will drive certain people crazy, like yours truly lol. You absolutely should have "looked it up", at least to add a bit of cool trivia, but more too bookend that section of your video. You seem like a nice guy and a promising YouTuber, but silly little mistakes like that will keep what could have otherwise been a great video, down. Full disclosure, I don't make YouTube videos but I have lots of experience giving presentations, and I know from experience, that's the kind of thing that can cost you some faith w/ your audience. You're definitely better than that, and because of that, I'm gonna go check out some of your other videos. Consider me subscribed!
This game was dogshit sorry
I really can not agree with all the negative reviews. The game made a lot of fun, the story was interesting, the graphic is truly next-gen and the game is scary and brutal as f- 😳
Only thing i didn't like was the frustrating boss fights towards the end of the game
As a fan of the first Death Space TCP exeeded my expectations. 9/10 (PS5)
I personally see The Callisto Protocol no different than 2023's version of The Evil Within. If The Evil Within was came out in 2023 with today's graphical standards, this would be the exact same treament it would get. Yet many thinks it is a masterpiece today.
The game (TCP) itself did an extraordinary work with the graphics and atmosphere. And I really liked the story especially after finding interesting details in my other playthroughs. I highly recommend "TeryonTheHuman"s review and story explanation of The Callisto Protocol.
TCP tried a different way of storytelling that I never saw in any other game before, that almost every line that is said in the game, or at least the ones in the important scenes, gains a different meaning later on in the story, like the first line of Jacob being "I do not belong here" right before entering The Black Iron Prison, and his last line being "I do belong here" right before getting out, a completely deserved line delivered with dedication and acceptence of fate. This concept of lines gaining different meanings goes even harder in The Final Transmission DLC's ending.
Every character served multiple functions other than just being characters. Like Max being Jacob's conscience and torturing him throghout his journey, just to make him realize what he has done. And Ferris representing the judgement and price of what he has done, never stops chasing him no matter how many times Jacob escapes his grasp or temporarily defeats him (Including the ending scene of the main campaign). Because there is always a price to pay and you can't run from what you've done …
The game is an 8/10 to me, one of the best games I have played this year along with RE4R and ALAN WAKE II.
this games secretly a masterclass and took huge bold risks with the combat love it or hate it, it was original.
What if you never played DS, would you have felt different about Callisto?
This game could have been so much more even though I had fun with it. Not sure if the franchise will go forward now that Glen Schofield is no longer at the studio.
my take:
i bought this game a year ago, hoping to play it with my best friend with whom i played DS1 and DS2. after the game came out we had to wait a few days as i was out of town and the reviews came in which indicated a unfinished game.
we tried it though and gave up shortely after 2 hours, so we couldnt give it back on steam.
fast forward, after a year i just finished the game. and i have to say after 3 hours the game actually becomes "good"? i mean yeah the melee combat sucks, its so repetitive. but once there is more interaction between jacob and dani, its not bad. and of course the graphics…man oh man!
i immediately played on maximum security and had alot of tough moments, with countless retries. but after all, not too shabby, i also hope for a second game that improves the whole setting.
how is this a one year review when you don’t compare the improvements made to the game over a year of updates?
repetitive melee, garbage optimization.. yeah game should be $20 at most.
I thought I’d hate this but it’s one of my fav games in years. I actually enjoy the combat. I loved the no nonsense, just straight up gameplay and NO massive inventory system.
The game is good. It's not Dead Space good, but it's a good linear survival Melee oriented horror game. I found managing mobs , Well, manageable. The game does have its problems. It's one of those games well into the future that will be look back at as a great collector's items and appreciated much more than when it was released. Despite how close it is to his previous work, Play the game on its terms and not the ones it's highly influenced by and you'll have a better time. People are frustrated with the combat but I found a mixture of mele and firearms that are satisfyingly effective..8 out of 10 for me.
Currently playing the game to make a video about it. Stumbled upon this video while doing research. While I don't agree with how you feel about the combat, I do think it was a well put together video. I just subbed and look forward to checking out your other videos. Keep up the good work!
Totally agree with all you say. The original Dead Space was a masterpiece and I really admire Glen Schofield as an artist but I think he must have had a much better team around him whilst making Dead Space (1).
I really wanted to enjoy Callisto, I gave it hours and hours willing it to succeed, I loved the atmosphere at the start, I was “there”, just like Dead Space … but the frustration built and built until .. I arrived at the final boss … and couldn’t even be bothered to fight it.
I think Schofield is an outstanding artist but he needs a talented team around him that at least have some game playing experience. The guys and gals that developed, built the mechanics and maybe even tested this have, in my opinion, seriously let the team down.
I see Schofield has paid the price in being “let go” from the company that as far as I know he actually started!
The good points you talk about, such as the atmosphere and setting seem to all be from Schofield, watching the making of documentary suggests this. I only hope that if he ever wants to make a game again he surrounds himself with people that will actually help the dream become a reality.
I loved all three Dead Space (yes, even the third one had its moments) games and I cleared Alien Isolation on all modes so Im no stranger to challenging spacehorror, but this isnt horror – its space-frustration. On a technical level it looks wellmade – however I miss some standout locations. I would be hard pressed to tell if a player was one or three hrs into the game just by looking at the enviroments.
I like the game. Played it for like 4 hours for the second time today. I found it strategic. It becomes overwhelming when there are too many enemies facing you so you have to strategize on enemy management. The shot gun is useful to back off stronger enemies and the pistol is good for combo combat. I found more useful upgrading thw bouton to hugh damage and secondary strong attack to eliminate enemies faster. Also, the grip is better used when you are really close to spikes or other harzard to avoid wasting the energy.
Absolutely.
I just finished this game today and I am pretty sure that there will be a sequel with good horror and jumpscare content. Are they following the dead space gameplay theme in its series? Dead space 2 had a lot of jumpscare moments if I remember. Anyways will be waiting for the sequel
Here is the thing. Its a fantastic game, and an incredible space horror game. People need to stop comparing it to Dead Space, cause the nostalgia goggles are making people say that this game is bad when it isnt. Yes its flawed at times. But the story, the set piece, the tension and the gameplay are great
This is the most beautiful video game ever created.
