I always preferred the idea that the mustard man was a parent of one of the missing kids. It would make sense why there are animatronic or spring bonnie footprints outside of his sons window.
Why would an animatronic walk up to a kids' window if they can't leave the building? It would make way more sense if it was William luring the kid into Freddys so he could unalive them.
