I’m not surprised at people wanting you to use more negative language, but the way you talk about games is one of my favorite things about your channel. I do binge watch reviews at times because I just vibe with your personality a lot. I’m glad that being on a tight schedule hasn’t hurt your enjoyment of games. I’ve always wanted to play more crpgs, but I don’t because I don’t wanna feel overwhelmed with information after a long day of work. However, your channel is helping me realize maybe I should give it a go and see how I feel. So thank you for your videos!
I beg you to try out monster hunter and if that loving community can change your mind on multiplayer rpgs
Not only do I spend so much time playing games, but I also spend almost as much time just thinking about them.
So glad I found your channel. Can't believe how much content you pump out, and all of it's high quality. Really enjoyed how thoughtful this video was.
Hey Mort, regarding the way you provide constructive feedback on games and features that do not meet customer expectations. I like it very much. It is fine to differentiate as a true professional (also in behavior) in game reviews instead of the reviewtainment that is a lot of streamers and reviewers. There are plenty of those already. I enjoy the thorough and design oriented approach way more to open up the different viewpoints to me myself also as I know I have a very narrow view myself on what I like and enjoy. Keep up the good work – and why would you not – you love what you do and it shows <3
How do you feel about replaying games? Do you even think about that (in a sense of craving to replay a certain game in the future but not having enough time for the moment)
I've just started doing similar videos, and its crazy how much more critical you become of games when you go in with a review in mind vs just turning your brain off and playing a game.
Enjoyable and insightful. Hope you'll continue your great work.
Man!
I really can identify myself with your thoughts about multiplayer xD
I played SO much WoW, WoT and also HotS & LoL..
And although i kinda do not regret it that much (had good times in wow especially)
i just hate MMOs nowadays and kinda all online multiplayer..
They are just so exhausting in their concept of grinding and grinding.. and of course randoms.. sheesh randoms are the worst..
Also maybe because im getting old(i'm almost in my mid thirties now.. sheesh 0o), but a good single or koop game which can actually be beaten, is so much more enjoyable for me!
I mean i play ARK.. but on my own server with so much better rates, i just hate that damn useless grinding for nothing but just to dumb time in..
Please look for colorblindess options. 🙂
I have an idea for a vid (or two rather). Maybe you could make a "review" or maybe more like strong impressions video of a game (not 100%). Like a normal review, like reviews typically are. Then go back and 100% the game, then make a new review or video, talking about what you may have got wrong, or how your impression changed from the initial review and after fully experiencing the game. Giving sort of a juxtaposition of how reviewers typically see games or some such.
Just happy to have a reviewer that doesn’t have a British got damn accent for once lol
I myself have now also been playing many games over the years. Some i completed, some i just played trough the story and some i just stopped. The thing is as you said, the amazement of playing games does tend to fade away.
By now you understand systems, how ai tends to work and how to exploit the game itself. I do see compromises in the game engine, be it shadow maps or especially agressive draw distance.
Having started with the gameboy i am up to any kind of graphical setup, be it pixel art or whatever, but if something just pokes my eye obviously i am rather annoyed by it.
Understanding how the game works and what works for you can obviously help to enjoy it. I and many others have also developed the ability to detect the most optimal way to play, but that in itself is often optimising the fun out of the game.
Luckily, i am still able to turn off my "game sense" and just enjoy the game for what it is, but it is really hard sometimes to just ignore obvious tells.
Enjoyed your take on it =)
Been really enjoying your unbiased and honest reviews. I think you understand that games as a whole are always subjective, everyones likings are different which is why I really dig this channel. Also really like these off topic videos, letting us know of your experiences or year reviews. Keep it up!
You are a gaming monster, how you 100 percent this many games in such a short period of time is astonishing. You are definitely one of a kind. Hope you don't get burnt out 👍
I’m baffled that people want a more direct negative conclusion- the internet has so many of those! I really enjoy your outlook. Balance and nuance are wonderful on the receiving end of reviews.
you’re super super articulate it’s easy to understand your points
you are a super-hero for me, I wish I could play games the way you do. I want to 100% games but I never can sit down long enough to even finish most games (The ones I love even)
I just found your chanel yesterday, and you are pretty much doing what i wanted to do (but in French). I almost always 100% games, and was thinking that if i do, I might as well share it with other people, be it through Twitch or YouTube.
Anyway, just to say that I will probably get the courage to do it, thanks to you, knowing it can be done!
By the way, great videos!
I know I'm in the minority, but these "analytical" videos are my favourites. I love a bit of game theory.
Glad to hear you’re still living your dream man!
ur the only review channel i watch lol
ur very unbiased in how u explain things u thought werent good
big ups
Thank you for not going arbitrarily "negative" yes it gets clicks, yes YouTube promotes it, but it's not helpful. It's just complaining to get views.
This guy is a madman.
Nothing constructive to add, so I'm commenting for the algorithm!
Just one thought – I appreciate that you do your reviews in an adult manner (constructive criticism rather than squeaking about how bad something is) and that you talk to your audience as adults (no infantile jokes or constant references to memes).
Plus, you've got a really calming voice. I watch reviews of games I know I won't play just because of that 😉
Edit: Your approach to difficulty is some solid life advice.
The section of the community that wants content creator to "be more critical or use negative connotations" are only seeking validations for their feelings. It's as if they feel that their experience in a video game isn't real unless somebody on a public platform conveys the same feeling
You are my goto game reviewr !
This was a great perspective. Thank you so very much for sharing that!
Man. You inspired me to 100% my games, maybe i'll even create an youtube channel
Divinity original sin 1 review from you would be great
I wonder, do you also find for example Pathfinder WOTR hard and unfair difficulties not difficult? 🙂
For example, I also feel that my understanding of gaming systems has improved over the years, but on my 3rd playthough of Pathfinder WOTR (400 hours already, omg) I've reached confidence only on the core difficulty, not harder. Hehe
Also thanks a lot for your reviews, they feel really friendly, in-depth, objective and critical only when it's truly fair.
When you start a game you are often asked to choose a difficulty setting, but without having played the game this is impossible to judge, since some sort of average value can vary wildly between games. And even within a single game the difficulty can vary significantly- the difficulty spikes (usually with bosses) that usually result in a gaming experience that is not ‘fun’, but more like ‘work’.
Honestly I always love your reviews even though I probably will never play these games and some of the reviews I actively disagree with… It's just nice to see someone else's love for these titles and to hear how and why they like them
I actually enjoy how level headed you are and how you do not YELL INCESSANTLY ALL THE TIME!!!1! That thing actually bothers me. As does too much savoir faire, if you would.
The way I approach games also changed. I don't particularly care about difficulty anymore. Or whatever whoever is gonna think. While I do not enjoy Story Mode, I also do not enjoy Masochism mode. Normal mode's the best, but if it don't work with Normal, Easy ought to do it! As long as I have fun … that's all that matters in the end. Yes?
And we enjoy your sharing with us!
It's good news you are not getting burn out completely games 100% and reviewing them as I'm enjoying watch your reviews.
Absolutely love your reviews lad , I often just put on a review of your and just listen while I’m doing something I like hearing your thoughts on things
Just realized I haven't been subscribed.. What have I been doing
"That sense of wonder when playing videogames has long faded away" wow I couldn't relate more with a sentence than that one, granted I still love playing videogames and I can see myself still playing them 50 years in the future but its true that games just don't give me that rush they used to. I've played over 100+ PS1 games and 50 PS2 games (I counted them before putting them in a box for storage), many SNES, GB, GBA, DS, N64 and Gamecube games on emulators and I'm sure more than 100 games in PC and the sentence "Games aren't hard for me anymore" couldn't be any more true unless the game is just unfairly difficult for the sake of it (Halo 2 on Legendary is unfair).
I wish I could have that experience of seeing my own child fall in love with videogames but this time I'd make sure they don't use it as a coping mechanism for trauma like I used to when I was a kid nor fall behind on their responsibilities due to no moderation in playtime.
You seem like a great guy and I wish you lots of luck with your channel and hope you can grow to a huge channel!
If i asked for more it would be a review of a game chosen by your viewers. Like once in a while.
I've never really understood the hunt for extreme difficulty in games… They are (in most cases) something people do for fun in their spare time, why stress yourself out for no reason? Of course a game that just rolls over before the player gets boring, so a level of difficulty that keeps you on your toes and actively thinking is good, but I don't understand the mentality behind racking the difficulty up so that you have to try a boss 30+ times before you beat it. I start getting bored if I have to try a section of a game more than 4 times and quickly begin to lose interest. And even if you do git gud at a specific game, that's all it is. It's not like you are likely going to spend the rest of your life focused on just that game.
That being said, I guess I'm a bit of a hypocrite seeing how hard the games I've been part of making are.
Honestly, the fact that you don't outright trash a game for the things you don't like is literally the main reason I enjoy watching your videos and remain interested in your opinions on what you decide to play. So thanks for the thoughtfulness in that regard, Mort.
the goat
hey man, i'm really glad to seeing you doing well. I hope you continue to enjoy playing games and i can continue to be impressed by you 100% games i couldn't stand. good fucking work
