This is the kind of inner voice you want on a daily. Nothing but positive vibes and just make you wanna continue to be better at your craft.
Thanks man🤙🏽
hi, good video, can you give books reccomendations on how to improve? thanks 🙂 i'm sort of a beginner
this is so overwhelming
but in a good way
Straight facts
Any one watching this in the age of 14 😂
Yep, so basically U need to be at the top when it comes to imagination, creativity, and software knowledge (like PS, which is now horrendously expensive and far above reality lvl for a green horn). U need to know this software and its tricks (years of experience I guess?), so U can save a lot of time and be efficient (attractive) to a potential company. U need to have impressive skills of adapting to someone's vision, instead of bring your own ideas.

Hey, where's the trash can? I need to set my dream job plans to a bin.
I’m going to school for art but want to become a concept artist, I have good art skills but I can’t draw without a reference for the life of me. Can i still become a concept artist?
And now you are training data. Hope you got away from Photoshop. Thanks for the video. Good info.
Damn this really is working nonstop early to make it and never have to work again (because you'll like your job)
I'm studying concept design at university next year and I'm so thankful for videos like these which will help me to already start improving my art before university even starts.
I use LinkedIn but only get connection but no hiring or job offers. I get some commissions but not much I even apply for art jobs but got nothing but one that was going to put my resume on file.
How do they stay warm is something I wonder a lot when I get to a snowy area in a game and everyone is still dressed to show off max amount of skin
i usualy watch vids on 1.5x but for this watched on 0.75
gread video tho
I love concept art and have wanted to do it forever but I'm such a perfectionist i have a hard time producing stuff quickly.
I think I want to be a splash artist, not a concept artist. Thank you for clearing up the difference between splash art and concept art. I figured they were both in the same field but I was wrong. I can now focus on a path for me.
jampacked with actionable advise. holy crap what a gem Trent!
Dude breathe.
After this video I am so glad I just looked it up because I was curious. Not because I wanted to become a concept artist.
Jesus christ l feel sorry for every artist and worker in games studios that make games but knowing that l want to learn this to make my own game is the reason l'am amazed by that
So thank you to every artist and worker in gaming you all are respected
"The things that were absolute truths yesterday are totally different now" can not be preached hard enough. I'm a hard surface modeler second for work, but an illustrator first as a hobby. The tools of the trade, the ways we get taught, and the end goal is ever-changing. I went to college for 2 years learning how to hand-paint and photo-map environments in Photoshop only for Substance Painter to come out 3 months before graduating. The output was the same but 2 years of learning Photoshop tricks become "old knowledge" practically overnight. That was 9 years ago and I'm still rocking. Adaptation is key to surviving this industry.
"You have to be able to paint like this other artist" is also something we were taught in college, and oh my god it is a RUSH to break away from my normal style and be like "I'm gonna pretend to be X today" and mimic their style like putting a mask on. I like my ink and colored shitpost stuff the most, but I can paint a mean landscape if need be.
What software is he using for drawing this?
Near the end, you mention needing to have a style similar to the game you're working on. I am super flexible with what style I'm using, I can do similar enough to what you're doing in the video, and also something like Rachet and Clank as you mentioned. Is it worth putting together a portfolio that displays versatility? Or do you think it's better to show off just one instead of "muddying the waters" with too many different styles in one spot?
If you see this, thank you 🙂
thanks
Leonardo davinci
become a renaissance artist
so what i can get from this video is you don't simply create a character, but also a whole world behind that character, am i correct?
What qualifications do you need before portfolio like do you need to go to another school or college degree or uni?
Wow thank you for the explanation sir , but I have something to say when I watched your video I understood that expectations and reality are different
Imo from what i understand of concept art its core to succeed is just iteration as you said
Do all of these information applies to certain programs since I'm unable to use adobe photoshop or illustrator
As a old time 3d modeler who dabbles into 2d art from time to time on my free time, I found this video refreshing, it is spot on with what you have to do to get a job in the games industry as a concept artist. So if this is what you want to do, here is another comment saying this is the real deal.
WOAH? calling me out like that?
I cam here as a hobbyist programmer to learn what to do in case an artist quits out of our game jam project before it even started. Well, let's just say I'm f*cked.
I never wanna be a concept artist for production studios. I dont want that insane stress and pressure.
I wanna draw for myself so pressure is relaxing
thanks a lot
Sounds like hell
how did he colour the black and white?
how do you upload finished product without loosing the quality of an art? i use photoshop and cant figure out the problem i am having.
i know its a little of topic but when youre projecting a speedpainting can you put like a timer ? to give the idea of how much long did you made the art
Can you help figure out how many heads characters should be. Like Batman for instance, it’s says he’s 6,2’ so does that mean he’s 6 heads
I want to do character and environment desing😢😢😢
I needed this video more than I thought I did, thank you very much for this masterpiece🤘
