I adored this game. My fab since generations and Adventure.
Thanks!
I didn't expect Vic to give it an 8.5 after he pointed out what needed to be worked on. I expected a 6- 6.5. But I'm happy with the 8.5 from Vic. I hope he reviews the new story content for Frontiers that comes out next year.
Could never really get into the 3D Sonic games. May be this one will change my mind.
As a hardcore 2000s era Sonic fan, the fact that in many ways this game makes Sonic unabashedly "anime" again makes this easily a 9-9.5/10 for me, but an 8.5 is more than fair.
good to see you still reviewing games vic! not to sound weird but you are a relic of my childhood, all my other gaming podcasts / shows i used to watch and long gone and dead 🙁 (giantbomb, 1up yours, ign's nintendo podcasts, reviews on the run, elec playground g4). appreciate your work.
What did you expect when trying to run Sonic on a system without Blast Processing???
This belongs on a Dreamcast 2 aka the PC…
🔥 🔥 🔥
I’d only pick this up after a massive patch.
Super addicting and because of that I knew if I didn't purposely take my time and only allot specific times to play, I would have completed it a lot sooner.
I loved going around the different islands and collecting everything that was shown on the map (even though you didn't have to) and then go off and fish with Big. Tbh its flaws didn't bother me as I was just like "wow" and having so much fun.
…but 1-2 though with that S
2022 has been a great year for sonic
this is the only 3D sonic i've ever enjoyed, too. the trailers made it look weird but once you play you realize you need a lot of open room for sonic to feel fast.
Guess it's good….
It has the building blocks for what could be truly revolutionary for the platform genre. Unfortunately Sega didn't give Team Sonic the time they needed to fully execute on their vision. But now they have a lot of the mechanics figured out. They just need to focus on refining what they have and adding more variety in Frontiers 2.
This is one game I've tried to like but nope I don't like it at all.
👍
I'm waiting for a big sale and for them to hopefully fix the issues so I can actually play on deck.
I will wait until it's on PS+
I'm happy to see the solid review! I really enjoyed this game, and excited to see how it evolves in sequels. Also… that soundtrack is soooo goooooood
I was genuinely surprised by this one, from a distance it seemed like a completely unfun and broken game. Getting in to it myself though I feel completely immersed in my addiction to explore everything and perfect all the different challenges. Its really an experience you have to play for yourself to understand.
LOL Vic. I also get queasy when I play games in 30FPS. I call it drunk vision. It even hurts the back of my eyes at times.
At first I was blown away, then I got frustrated with the glitches, jankiness, camera woes, etc Despite that it's somehow addictive. I just keep getting back to it despite the fact I could spend my time with better overall games out there. I'm 20 hours in and im just in the 3rd island. It constantly makes me smile then it makes me shake my head with how many glitches the game has. It honestly needed one more year in the oven in my opinion. Despite that the mysterious vibe, the challenge of keeping Sonic's momentum going, and the music keeps me going back to it. I'm hoping they keep working on it and after a few more patches I feel like I will like to replay it after I beat it. I don't think it's a game for everybody but they certainly have a formula here that if they can improve the execution it will def appeal to everybody.
I got ps5 and switch versions. Sega said patches are coming. We'll see.
Solid review. I have the game in my backlog. Excited to get to it.
It's a crying shame Victor doesn't 100K subscribers on here… yet. I wish people would subscribe so we can have more old school EPN or even Classic Judgment Day episodes starring the Wasp herself: Evangeline Lilly! I mean why are people ignoring this channel?
Victor I'd give SONIC Frontiers a 8.5 out of 10 as well it's fun. The same cannot be said for Sonic 2006!
Great review Vic! My son is loving it.
1:57 looks like a forge level someone created in 2009. yikes!
Awesome review! I can confirm that Generations on Series X is really nice, especially with the FPS boost.
Victor is the review GOAT.
Your review sums up how I feel about this game to a tee. The fun outweighs the flaws for sure. Like yourself it's hard to put down the controller on this one it's way to much fun for that!
I would assume the PS5 version is the same as the Series X version so I’m looking forward to playing this one now!
Dang, higher score than I expected. Got through the first world and had a surprisingly good time. I might play through it in chunks to avoid it getting repetitive, but the core is pretty cool and I'm looking forward to see how they expand on the concept.
And yeah, Generations on the Series consoles is great. I have a 1000 achievement save file and fly through the main levels every few months (it takes like an hour to do the core levels).
Yeye 😁
I have been waiting for this review and I guess me wearing my sonic socks today made it happen 😂
