The game is fun and aggravating due to the parry and block tightness. Parrying is difficult, and block feels sometimes unresponsive. It felt Sekiro / Bloodborneish at a smaller scale. The first boss, you'll need to parry a lot, which I've never been great at, so he's very difficult. You'd probably like it Asmongold.
Damn good game
Thymesia is not bad. It's an indie 7/10. It has a unique take on soulsborne combat and the bosses were well crafted. It has bit too many gimmick bosses and could use more polish compared with Lies of P, but I wasn't disappointed in purchasing/playing Thymesia.
100% worth
As a souls fanatic this game is ass
Can’t get pass the first level 😢
2023 and can say it still holds up. Amazing game! Great deflect system, nice abilities, and good variety of weapons (via shards)
If you like dodges that don’t work, one weapon, and a skill tree that’s shit enjoy
Good price for quality indy game
If only they could design better mobs and a little bit better world. Man this game has such a great combat system.
First time enemies act like bosses. Meaning, you will die to a first encounter a few times until you get used to their attack pattern. You definitely need to learn how to hold back and when to attack. You can’t be greedy all the time and you can’t just sit back either. There’s a good mix here that makes you get gud. He’s right about Odur. The first boss is oddly enough, the second hardest in the game. He will be a roadblock for quite a few players. Think Gascoigne with a touch of Maria and Genichiro.
Also, I think it’s a short game because a lot of games inspired by soulsborne want to go big and go hard. Thymesia actually puts more stock in quality over quantity.
I will say this on the topic of consumables. Elden Ring IMO has way too many consumables to really explore a decent build without wasting hours of gameplay. Thymesia makes that approach easier because there’s only a few herbs that you can add to your potions. But you don’t craft them traditionally. The consumables are more of an attachment to your potions.
Lastly, anytime resets on your skill tree makes this worthwhile anyway. The game is just big enough to let you enjoy moving skills around. And not long enough that you get bored too fast. I agree with the in video score. Not another AAA but definitely scratched an itch for Bloodborne and Sekiro’s love child.
300 hours of dark souls and i got 2 hours into this game before having to quit. call it "fine tuning" call it "janky" — expect 70% of your efforts to not work. dodge? you'll get hit. parry? you'll get hit. feather dart? it wont work. dodge? get stock on a rock, and then get hit. I really was excited for this and wanted so badly to like it–but after 2 hours I was just so agitated and had to quit. Funnily enough, the achievements I had just for finishing the first bit–30% of players stop after the tutorial. it needs work, i can see why it was on sale for 40% off.
Thymesia is FREE right now on Psn+
Knockoff Bloodborne
Only seven people created this game!
Just started playing it tonight. Finally got through the first boss. The game is pretty damn hard but, not too much that it isn't playable.
Update:the combat in this game is better than elden ring
Games great
I love how the video creator said don't worry about spoilers…and then proceeds to talk about various bosses and weapons you can upgrade….
Im always skeptical about souls like games. They always mess up the dodge or the fairness of the game. Giving this game a shot in a few day
huh never seen a review review, react like this, but I like it, get two reviews at once basically.
this game is a bit too short for my liking, but combat, level design and soundtrack are amazing
The way I parry attacks in this game is by focusing on a rhythm. This game is surprisingly good!
That’s pretty unfair to say “would I rather play an Elden Ring mod, or Thymesia”? That’s incredibly lame.
It’s an indie company. Of course FromSoftware will be superior. But that shouldn’t take away from the work this indie company did for this game.
6:28 might be the camera probly… I had way more fun with this game combat mecanics than Elden ring's. I honestly don't understand how can you have such blast with Elden combat.. It's slow, redundant and boring.
I was so fun to watch the playthroughs
I actually like this game. Despite the jank and that it's not as refined as Fromsoft's games it was still fun for the price.
Code Vein was legit
It’s definitely a good game, but I just wish it had more content to it, especially enemy variety and more weirdness to its environments. That said, the development team is just 7 people so it’s very impressive that it’s as big and polished of a game that it is with that fact in consideration.
11:40 I just realized that WoW ist pay to win in regards to consumables. Consumables literally add nothing to the game, except people paying for gold to get them, because they don't want to play farming simulator 2004.
Played a bit of this game and it is really nice feeling. It doesn't feel too much like dark souls or elden ring in a good way. Fighting the tutorial boss makes you realize just how much mobility souls games' attacks have as I found myself not landing hits. This game is what I expected elden ring to feel like after Sekiro, more focus on a fusion of dodge and parry with additional weapon features the further you go. Best way I can describe it is like this: Bloodborn: Dark Souls but in Lovecraftian Style, Elden Ring: Dark Souls in Tolkien Style, Sekiro: If Dark Souls was an Anime, Thymesia: Dark Souls in Curse of Straud. It does well to not be a clone of the From Soft system and instead has its own ideas and passion that lead to its own style with From Soft feeling more of an inspiration than a base.
I saw this game tho and really wished they would have took a more fast paced approach in elden ring like about this speed could you imagine…. Everything elden ring has and then give it a fast paced combat style.
do you like make bong bong skeet skeet with kitty kat?
DON'T FORGET TO LIKE THE VIDEO
I bought the game specifically to fight Ordus. We don't have enough performer style bosses that can actually beat your ass
The feather throw I don’t get the feather throw…I know I’m timing it right and it still doesn’t parry. That’s the only thing annoying other than that I’m loving the game
I just started playing this game a month after this video and there’s a lot more than 5 levels. The first level has 5 sub quests by itself. The games good though I really like it.
If you liked sekiro or any souls game and like indies than this game is a no brainer. Of course it's not a masterpiece like sekiro or Bloodborne but the combat is awesome and it's well worth the price tag for souls fans. There is so much potential for an amazing sequel here, hope we get one.
“If you’re response time is good enough”
I got piss drunk and spanked the sword saint himself, but I couldn’t do it sober… what should I expect?
Haven't played anything as enjoyable as this since sekiro came out
I actually just bought this because I'm a hardcore souls player. hopefully it's good and worth playing all the way.
It looks choppy. Like you said it's hard to replicate the game feel of fromsoft games. With the exception of ds2 animations, everything looks fluid and smooth, and is accompanied by good world design and immersive audio. That's before we even get to the music
tldr; It's not worth it. The gameplay is ok but the difficulty scale and the level design are utter garbage. It looks cool when you're watching someone playing but when you finally get to playing yourself, you start feeling bored after a few hours because the game design is lacking.
"Is it worth playing?" says the guy who spends thousands of hours playing many junk MMOs and doing a bunch of terrible grinds. Of course it's worth playing, it's worth discovering new games specially if you're into a genre, even if you totally end up dislking the game you still tried to enjoy the game and ultimately gained more experience towards other games and game design in general, unless you don't like games at all in which case what's even the point? I also don't blind hate souls-like games because of the fame that dark souls has, I think Sekiro is a master piece and at the same time I'm utterly excited for all kinds of souls-like games expecting to see what other devs can offer, a lot of times I'm surprised and a lot of times I get disappointed by their lack of understanding, it's the experience that ultimately matters, at least it's a lot more productive than wasting thousand of hours in unnecessary grind fests that adds nothing towards anything. You like souls-likes? Embrace the experience, gain more skill, adapt towards new concepts and learn from all of them. Dark souls just made me appreciate good games in general, even way outside this genre, it's definitely worth playing.
