Beneath the blemishes, The Callisto Protocol is a satisfying survival horror game with gorgeous atmosphere and brutal combat.

Bought this on sale yesterday including all DLCs.
Aside from pretty good graphics (for the most part), the gameplay and design is abysmal.
Still soldiering on for the story.
Unfortunately for me, Sony is very restrictive with their refund policy. Otherwise, I would have traded this for Dead Space Remake or Demon's Souls for similar price.
What would people recommend this or Dead Space remake? Never played original, but they look kinda similar to me.

This game could've been a couple hours longer, other than that everything about this game was great, especially if you scoure the game and find all the information to put the story somewhat together. The Cliff Hanger was annoying but I will be back to see it through. Yhe acting could've had a more frightening approach to make the player feel more terrified whilst playing. Not interested in the Perma Death mode, Maximum Security was good enough for me. The Riot DLC looks OK but it's just like any other HORDE mode, continuous waves of enemies is a thing of the past. Wish they would bring more content out about the story in the DLCs but it doesn't look like we'll be getting any of that and would have the wait for Callisto 2
Terrible Combat and repetitive enemies 2/5
Just got my copy yesterday, been off from the holidays….. and wow it’s awesome, on the 3rd last chapter……. 16 hour in. This game is dead space with a different premise. Really upset some of my familiar reviewers hoped on the hate band wagon.
This is how I played
– Patch 1.0.8 PS5
– Started on the hardest difficulty (wanted to knock the trophy out)
– switched between Performance and RT to enjoy visuals
This is what I found
– exceptionally balanced in this difficulty (even with dodge assist in accessibility is challenging)
– weapons and crafting is awesome, game is stunning
– varied environments with 1 occasional same local background, loved each biome
– story is awesome, as you are a survivor not the main hero or antagonist, just enough is given
– enough side tracking for loot, nowhere near as linear as hell blade and that was awesome too
Sure certain situations could be better, but if you don’t want to speed run or collectathon then it’s phenomenal
This game had really cool concepts, but had no clue on how to properly pull them off. A lot of the game was just far too similar to Dead Space as well, apart from the different combat, it really just felt like a watered down Dead Space 1.
Should there be a conversation about good over-the-shoulder cameras and bad ones? Because whatever the camera is doing in this game during melee is giving me a headache
Are you guys going to review MWII? It's very strange that you're the only major reviewers that haven't made a review on the game yet and you guys have done one for every cod…
what happend to game trailers lol
They made enemies who've cleared out an entire prison colony unable to follow you in all these fucking vents they've put in the game.
How is that going to be fun when there's no fear of death, you should be able to fight through it
Swimming in 7s baby. I know EZA doesn't focus that much on technical aspects, but I'll say something missing from the reviewm I know Huber always prefer 60fps, but Quality Mode offers a sweet advantage with ray tracing enabled on reflections and shadows. Most of the time are helpful to know who's around the corner and also makes the clautrophobic environment much more enjoyable. I know Huber is not a fan of the DualSense but I loved the feeling of the controller while traversing areas, shooter and grabbing enemies. A little shame about the stuttering on pc but I'm pretty sure Glen and his team knows their stuff. It's a solid game, an 8 for me
Extremely generous score considering all the hype and its numerous shortcomings. Especially the flat characters and story and repetitive combat. Also this level of gore is just unnecessary and feels cheap and schlocky compared with other, classic, horror games. Really a pointless project.
Got some excellent swimming right here. Fantastic review as always Huber! L&R
I Just watched the Digital Fundry video and I think it’s worth noting that the Xbox and PC versions are full of performance issues.
Bloody awesome game!
The clunky melee combat is keeping me away, more specifically the dodge mechanic
The combat is quite fun and varied after you get some more tools. I haven’t really touched the baton after getting the GRP power glove, it’s so satisfying to throw enemies into spikes or off ledges. Ammo is so plentiful that I have to sell at least 75% of ammo I find, even when I use the shotgun a lot. Playing on normal.
Nice review on other disappointing review. It Deserve 8 at least
well i think it is a great game, runs great on the PS5, looks amazing, don't listen to the haters, it is everything i thought the game would be, for me it is an 8/10
Wait for a sale. Trash game tbh
Unfortunately, I will be bold and say it wasn't an honest review. If it was you will tell there's nothing of Survival Horror in this game, that does not scare anybody, from the man behind Dead Space 1 and 2, this game was just an Action Melee Dance Simulator, with astonishing visuals and a background environment nice sound, but the SFX Sound from the Enemies, Horror it was so lame.
If you watch 10 reviews about this game, you forgot that this game isn't scary.
Let's all take a moment as well to recognise that the entire plot for the game was completely copied from an indie title called 'Barotrauma'.
It's disgusting and the devs should be completely condemned for such plagiarism.
7.5 for a broke POS?.. Yeah ok
Holy Moley, those death scenes are terrifying!
poor story, poor combat mechanics, poor enemy variety, poor weapon choice, poor level design, nice graphics = 7.5???
My biggest complaint is the lack of a map. It sucks hitting an unreturnable checkpoint when you want to explore every nook and cranny.
you was the 1st reviewer i listen too that really knew this game salute
Thanks for the review Allies, L&R
Great to see a balanced, overall positive review of this game.. I'm about 10 hours into it and honestly I'm loving the game.. the combat is way deeper than most are giving it credit for and boy is it pretty to look at..
