And again, Yahtzee, I reiterate.
The presence of two tails has no effect on the rectal or pelvic muscles and does not affect locomotion in polycaudal mammals.
As an onlooker I really like how Sonic games have serious stories starring unserious characters. It's like reading the Team Fortress 2 comics.
Huh, he struggled with the first boss? I know everyone in the comments section is gonna roast him for that.
The weird tone is on purpose; the fat dude at Sonic Team straight up admitted they consciously do it just for the sake of being weird
The tone is weird, yes. But Sonic Team's HNIC Morio Kishimoto is very open about their desire to be as weird as humanly possible. They are making a deliberate effort to be aggressively bizarre. I imagine that's the reason for the game's melancholic tone
I can’t believe he couldn’t beat the first boss. It’s easy as piss
Stops playing just cause he can’t beat one boss. I can’t decide if that’s really funny or really humiliating
I'm just impressed he had any good things to say about it at all! I loved the game and laughed out loud at this. I do very much agree on the classic levels being mercifully short. If I am playing an open world game, I am not looking for bottomless insta death pits if I fuck up a jump.
I’m amazed that he didn’t touch on the ludonarrative dissonance of Sonic being barely able to hold his own weight due to cyber-gonorrhea in a cutscene then going back to hurtling around at top speed 2 seconds later when gameplay resumes.
The game wasn't fantastic but it was at least amusing enough for one full playthrough so I guess there is that
4:42 Tell me you forgot to parry without telling me you forgot to parry.
Frontiers is a milestone in the sad, decades-long slog of stepping stones that fans will say is a step in the right direction. How many steps "in the right direction" will it take?
Was the pin ball really that difficult for you
It was a bit tedious but I got it first go around without losing any balls
4:50 just hold the parry buttons.
A friend of mine collects the Sonic comics and from what I've been shown, this plot would not be out of place in them. So I guess it's a case of trying to please the fandom.
Oh man the story of this game was so great! my favorite part was… Um… That one time?… Wait what's the story of this game? Also loved big the cat
See, this is what I like about Zero Punctuation. I can disagree with about 81% of what's being said and they'll still make me laugh by saying it.
Regarding tonal issues, this is why I have respect for Sonic and The Black Knight, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Heroes. They actually feel like episodes from a Saturday morning cartoon show. Which makes since this this franchise came to America as a Saturday morning cartoon show.
Honestly, this game is sonic unleashed but the combat isn’t as polished, however the over world movement is slightly better, but it’s nowhere near as well animated or created, though it is much better than everything that’s come out in the passed ten years and I can’t wait till we got the unleashed level of combat mechanics and this over worlds movement and exploration combined with the giant monster fights. As for the story, this honestly is where we should have been heading since unleashed, all history honored (except for forces and boom) though they do try to fix what forces broke, and a deeper dive into the mysteries that the sonic world had been building up in adventure.
I reckon they need to give sonic a break. No new sonic games till someone actually has a good idea.
I have to admire the pure-eyed naïveté of the gormless ultra-fans in the comments, starting petitions to make Yahtzee "update" the review to include their top strats for a bad game
nice to see yahtzee weigh in on this
2:36 Rainbow Dash : I GOT TRIPLE PREGNANT
I love how half the comments are "you obviously have to parry the titans 💀" and the other half are "wait, you can parry them?"
Reading these comments again is the most equally hilarious and infuriating thing ever. So many fans latched on to the parry thing (which he did actually use a lot) as the sole reason to undermine and disregard everything in the review
It's really fascinating just how insecure fans can be about liking something
I really enjoyed it, though 3D stages still have a tendency to randomly fling you into the abyss for no reason and FUCK level 1-2's S-rank time mission. I actually googled whether the time missions were important before finding to my great relief that this was the hardest and also a bizarrely hard challenge. Most of the rest were no problem at all.
i think sonic rush was the last great game sonic team made.
There are alreadt people on forums defending this pile of crap saying, "YaHtZeE lIkEs ThIs GaMe." I wish I was joking.
4:56 Funny that a guy who loves Dark Souls couldn’t manage to parry a boss.
I'd say that you're being quite kind, I was expecting much worse, the Jimquisition Worst games of 2022 certainly was.
1:39 Which is exactly what they did lmao
idk I was immediately skeptical of all the sonic fans going "ITS THE SECOND MESSIAH IS SO GOOD" and I looked at it and said "this is just UNleashed, but better. Are you guys sure you aren't just happy to have a barely mediocre game after 2 games that were either not great or laughably bad?"
