No. Chris pratt's "mushroom kingdom.." is sooo Mario.
Seeing it go back to shitty switch graphics is heart breaking lol. I can't wait for this. Also, new switch needed – 10 years ago. The Chris Pratt points are completely valid. Would it have been offensive to put an Italian accent on? Probably lol. But it shouldn't be…I think he will be fine. But like you said, coulda tried harder lol. On the whole though, this looks epic.

Have you heard the French version? That guy nailed the voice. Not full Mario voice (which would be annoying for 2hrs) but 85% there and it's amazing.

I personally think this trailer seems to be pretty similar to the 80s cartoon, but with modern sensibilities and animation.
I don't feel Mario looks any "cuter" than he did in that series, or the last Marioverse game I played…which was admittedly all the way back to Galaxy 1, played on a friends Wii.
I have not owned a Nintendo product since GameCube, and just haven't really kept up with any of it.
But to me, it all seems pretty standard Mario, just new.
I don't really think we heard enough of Pratt speaking to make any major judgments.
Is he the best possible casting choice? Maybe not.
But I'm really not sure who they "should" have gotten, as Mario was always kind of a vocal caricature of a stereotypical Italian-sounding person.
That could have its own issues…whether you cast a fully Italian person to do a parody of their culture, or an Italian-American to do a similar thing.
At least Pratt does have the pedigree for this, since he did the Lego movie and voicework for Marvel stuff as Starlord.
This is not something I'd go see in a theater, at any rate.
Whenever it gets to a streaming service, I will probably watch it, but this is not really my thing, anymore, game or movie-wise.
Im actually surprised so many people are "surprised" that Jack Black is a good bowser. Guys and gals…..he has been doing voice acting for YEARS, oh, and also has been singing in his band, Tenacious D, for YEARS with his good friend. What people "should" be surprised about is the studio making a terrible choice with Chris Pratt as Mario. If you want to hear what it should have sounded like watch the French version of the trailer. That guy NAILS it.

I don't think it's an issue of Chris Pratt, not putting effort in. He's still being directed on how to sound, and the director has decided to go in this direction. Even if you put another voice actor here, it's going to be similar.
I really wish Chris would've tried more, but like you said, maybe he does and we just didnt get enough of it yet. I do think it'll be a good movie for everyone, with gamers nitpicking the hell out of it, but that's going to happen no matter what.
I also truly believe that the movie is going to at some point be real life chris pratt falling into a drain or something and going to the mushroom kingdom. Either the opening, or post bowser getting the star it'll switch to IRL and then back again.

I think all 3 of them sounded great. Hearing their voices coming out of the models worked for me. I was afraid they would sound disjointed like Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu but I didn't find that to be the case.
I do definitely wish they kept Mario with his original voice. Mario is already famous—I don't think the stunt casting was necessary… especially knowing this is for kids. I feel like changing the voice of an iconic character is something kids would specifically feel annoyed by.
This movie needs to make bank so we can get a Legend of Zelda movie and possibly Metroid, StarFox, F-Zero, Pikmen, etc.

(And, you’re 30, I’m 42, it has to be said, you weren’t born when we fell in love with Mario, but no hatin’ just observing.)
But should the movie capture or be loyal to anything either of our generations loved about Mario? What if it leaves it all behind and captures what modern kids can love about him?
Minions is a way different vibe than any kids movie I grew up with; it wouldn’t shock me if this was a way different take on the plumber and his world(s?).
But if the kids do ultimately fall in love with Mario, isn’t that the win no matter what?
I can't get passed the fact that we've been hearing Mario's accent since the N64 days, but in the movie he has an American accent.
As a someone who only played Mario on NES as a kid and has almost no knowledge about the character and universe I think this looks fantastic…..but I'm not so sure about the voice

lol Nintendo dgaf about online backlash.
