I get that they focus on ufos, but they don't KNOW what they are, any more than anyone else does. For all we know, you can't have a UFO *without* some other phenomenon.
If it's a question of keeping their studies focused, at the very least they should be able to have one little ol' check box that represents some other phenomenon that was happening at the same time as a sighting.
I also get that people who are trying to be scientific want to to zero in on features they think are relative to their pursuit. However nothing happens in a vacuum.
(and come to think of it, it may be that their forgetting or ignoring that, is what's wrong with the scientific method)
Really can't see the point of editing data. It defeats the point of collecting it at all. They might as well just collect lights in the sky sightings. I wouldn't report anything to MUFON as theyre's no point.

These three groups could form an agreement on passing reports that they don’t see as their purview on to the relevant group. And they could also combine their figures into a monthly report over all categories. With a view to merging over time.

Personally, I happen to like certain individuals who are with the MUFON organization, however, I cannot stand the MUFON organization itself. I'm surprised this hasn't already been going on for years, but that's just my personal opinion, nothing more.
