The opening scene when you're coming out of the church and its all dark and ominous looking outside with the fire encircling the volcano is peak immersion. They did so much with what limited space they had.

One of the worst designed games ever. The sound cue was quite clever then they just said "hope you wrote that shit down bub"
The original Zelda understood the only appropriate way to put something like this in the game is to have someone in the world who plainly tells you the directions. Otherwise it's just unbelievably obnoxious.
