CRTs are necessary for vintage gaming but not for retro games since retro games have filters build in for use on LCD screens
The Panasonic Tau CRTs are great too. My grandfather had a 27" Tau with S-Video and Component that I took when he passed away.
In Europe, we didn't really get HD CRT's, our big thing was 100 Hz CRT's. They essentially just took a regular 50 Hz PAL signal and flickered it twice as quickly. This massively reduced visible flicker and eliminated that high-pitched whine that analogue TV's had (well, technically they still had a whine but it was now outside of the human hearing range). This made them excellent for TV and video.
However, this required some digital components which introduced a tiny bit of input lag (nowhere near an LCD TV though) and they weren't fully lightgun compatible. Although a little known fact is that European Guncon2's had a 100 Hz mode, along with most Namco Guncon2 games other than Crisis Zone.
I've heard that the retrotink 4k when combined with a high nit 4k OLED is the most convincing CRT filter. Id love to try it but holy moly that is an expensive setup
I found 45 family size Stale Cheez-its
What about HD CRTs? It would be nice to have a TV that still functions as a TV. A nice WEGA set with HDMI has a certain appeal to me.
The same goes for CRT monitors. I know they don't tend to have composite except for the really old ones, but that's where a Retrotink comes in.
My advice: get something cheap with a round screen and composite input. You don't need component (old games look better on composite on old hardware, trust me as someone who had a full RGB setup I eventually completely downgraded. Don't waste money hunting "better" visuals, it's a fools game). Round screens have better geometry. PVMs are over rated and over priced (also part of my eventual downgrade, I still have a 20" PVM I just don't use it), Trinitrons are okay but honestly just a regular old consumer model will give you the most accurate visuals (JVC sets are good, but so are lots of others).
Basically the good news is when trying to game on an old tube TV you don't need to spend all the money in the world finding some obscure set or buying high end cables. It's much more about finding a set you'd feel comfortable lugging around.

Almost no lag on those TV/consoles, very impressive if you ask me. Don't "pro" gamers or tryhards play on 250 Hz displays? Try battletoads turbo tunnel in the Rare collection vs the original hardware.
Mine is a Sony Trinitron 21" that I have since I was 12, so that's 30years and still works fine, no color loss or ghosting.
I bought a 32 inch hd crt Samsung. 2 person can carry only I managed to put it on a tv stand with wheels. About the input lag, if a good scalper or/and dr hdmi dongle is used that’s eliminates all the lag. People don’t know this that many older hdmi tv’s actually have good responses but bad hdmi handshakes makes them worse.
I highly recommend CRT desktop monitors for emulation. Cheap and useful, like your mom. 😅
Rayman looks so good still.
Hilarious video 😀
My 36' Philips CRT will become a monolith of worship after the world crumbles around it!!!
I enjoyed this video. Good job.
Can i play NfS 2015 and DriveClub on a CRT Monitor
Are they going to look better
Bro, what inch crt tv can you bench???
JVC > Sony
can you recommend a crt that doesn’t have overscan?
I like the poor quality CRTs for some reason
PVM/BVM's are for those who have insecurities and like to brag about what they have. Nobody played NES, Genesis, PCE or SNES on these monitors back in the day. I've tried several and don't care for the look of them. I like my old 20 inch Sony with composite. Get's the job done every time!
Back in college my friend “gave” me his 46” Mexican Mitsubishi CRT that was manufactured in Mexico circa 1996 or something, and it was a great TV for the time (2005ish) but by 06 or so we were moving out of our rent house, and I had to get it out of the house. It took me and 3 other dudes to get it into the bed of my f150, and we tried to set it down by the dumpster gently, but it fell off the tailgate screen/tube first and I’ll never forget the MUSHROOM CLOUD of TOXIC METAL that erupted at the scene 🤣
