I think Forspoken’s critique was incredibly unfair, leading the company to be bought by Square Enix. Let’s talk about it after my …

I bought this game today for $14.99 CAD. Its DLC cost more at $16.99 CAD. I’m giving it a chance because of you 😊
Don’t get the nonsense surrounding this game. I love it so much. People crying about the language. Insanity. She was abandoned as a baby and raised in the foster system. She escaped and lived in the streets. Of course she has a language issue. It was being true for her background. Played it twice. It really needs a sequel.
I couldn't get in to the Star Ocean game. In fairness I bought it because I love Sakuraba's OST's.
I generally hate anything by Square Enix. As usual they didn't disappoint by giving me a lead character that I hated. I literally just got rid of FFX because I couldn't put up with that bell end and then bought Divine Force just to get another irritating wanker.
Another put off other than the characters was the graphics. It looked really nice but then some areas were just hard to see properly.
It was an OK game and I think if I had a load of spare time where I could play average games, then I would probably have carried on a bit longer but I don't have spare time to play through hours of mediocre games.
It's not a hard no but I am a fan of ARPG's and to me it was average, so to someone who isn't really in to the genre, it would be a hard recommendation.
I think what I did enjoy was due to the OST carrying it for me. Some of the tracks were manic. I don't remember the song but there was some crazy busy song near the start and I was thinking Christ, this is a bit intense. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't that right at the start and it had me excited to play but the excitement just kept dwindling. Probably cos Square Enix are absolutely fucking useless at character designing for 90% of their games. There are always 1, or 2 characters from the get go in their games that just make me want to jump in to the screen and break their jaw.
I think in future I'll just avoid Square Enix, I've wasted more money on shit from that company than any other and they have never done anything I've really enjoyed. Harvestella was a good attempt at a farming game and I give them credit for that but their RPG's suck balls. If I exclude Monolith Soft with the likes of Lanz and Noppon's, I can't think of a company that does worse characters than Square Enix.
Forspoken was a terrible game.
I don't necessarily find Forspoken to be a "Good" game by any stretch but it definitely isn't deserving of the hyperbolic levels of hate it gets.
I just completed Forspoken and I loved everything about the game, story, character, world and combat.
This game is a master piece.
Pretty late to the party but Star Ocean Divine Force was also my first Star Ocean game and I absolutely loved it and became a fan of the series. The amount of different combos you could apply in combat is just so good. Also, Ray and Laeticia have different battle theme and I am glad I picked Laeticia because her battle theme is a complete banger.
And this seems to be the issue over all. I am happy YOU (or anyone else for that matter) bought the game and enjoyed it. Obviously the game was marketed for players such as yourself who like this type of story and game play.. I, on the other hand, have watched the trailers that were made specifically to show its gameplay highlights. I've watched several content creators, such as yourself, (so far, you are the only one who seems to have liked it.) who highlighted the game play and storyline, and have watched several scenes and play throughs. I will not be buying this game. There is nothing in it for me. Its a matter of choice. My choice is NOT to spend money on anything I do not think I will enjoy. Im all for DEI in the real world. But NOT in my entertainment. I personally do not endorse any games to anyone. I'm selective in my choices when it comes to MY personal entertainment. At the end of the day, MONEY will determine if this, or any other games on the market, makes it or not. Good luck and good gaming to everyone who enjoys a good game.
I just finished the main quest and am currently in the process of discovering the rest of the locations I haven’t been to yet. I enjoyed the game a lot. I haven’t played the dlc yet but I have purchased it. I would recommend this. At my age (59) I like games that aren’t over complicated. I found this game to be challenging but easy to keep up with.
The main character in forspoken swore more than the entire cast of GTA 5 it was totally unnecessary and felt out of place, also the cutscenes seemed far to often with tiny bits of gameplay sprinkled in between, when it got going it actually wasn’t too bad at all but the swearing and cutscenes ruined it for me
it was awesome traversal, but everything else made it a max 7 to me. not disagreeing with your take, just didnt hit for me.
I think it's a fun game, nice graphics, interesting gameplay, fast action and a wide variety of spells. The conversation of the main character and others is no worse than that of many other games, such as dragon dogma, dragon age, assassins creed, etc. Sometimes better, the development of the main character and how she views the world and herself is fine. It is a WOKE game where the main character is a woman of color, the people in power are women and most men are bad guys or powerless. This is probably the reason for many negative reviews. But yes, I am a 70 year old gamer who has been playing games for 42 years and hopefully can enjoy games for many more years to come.
I’m old but I do not always think I’m right! However there are some things I’ve learned that I am confident to relay as truth and this is a big part of the reason we witness this phenomenon;
Even as children we have all seen nervous kids joining together and teaming up over mutual hate.
In a group of children one picks on another and says cruel things then literally the fastest and easiest way to feel accepted, safe and clever is to join in. No pill works as fast as hate.
The internet is great for many reasons but it enables grouping thinking in numbers and at speeds that weren’t possible before.
Someone hears a critic saying “clever” things and putting a game down so they add a comment agreeing and INSTANTLY feel clever and part of a team.
It’s what the puritans did and what history has demonstrated over and over, hate makes you feel good about yourself without any intellectual effort.
We are seeing this phenomenon in action here.
Ironically the person saying “Sorry big corporation! We’re too clever to fall for your rubbish!” is far more likely to be demonstrating poor thought processes than clever ones.
I don’t know what the answer is but I do know this is one of humanity’s most popular behaviours throughout history. Stupid and cruel. The answers must lie in family ethics and education but I’m no expert.
nah, it's a pretty dog water game. maybe try not getting offended when someone else (most others) find a game bad. it's subjective and because they feel differently, ultimately doesn't matter.
bruh what you was smoking when play it will never watch your reviews again liar
It failed because the reviews for the most part were done by Millennials that were butt hurt because the way the scripting was done. Millennials do tend to talk exactly like the main protagonist in the game. Is it the best game of the year no but it is far better then people are giving it credit for.
The sheeps hating on this game i've always found very odd. Spider Man one of my favorite games of all time is praised as being the second coming of christ yet everyone who reviewed Spider Man never criticize how incredibly awkward the dialaouge is with new york citizens. They all act like robots, yet you never hear the same of level of complaints. Unfortunately there's another issue "ADULTS" lol. Adults take the fun out of everything and many people are victims of political warfare, so there was a lot of jokes about her being a chocolate lady and the haters calling it "woke" when it's really that Anti social Justice warriors are just as sensitive as Hyper SJW'S. Frey can be cringe at times but that is HER character & are we not going to pretend that Dante from DMC doesn't have cringe moments? I love Dante but he can also be a cringe legend. Yet again you don't hear the same outrage. Unfortunately adults allow politics to intervene in everything they do & it actually brainwashes them into illogical thinking because of their biasness. Does this game have flaws? absolutely but those flaws aren't bad enough to for hiveminds to act like it's the worst game or even one of the worst games ever made. I really hope they make a 2nd one and go even harder & bigger the 2nd time. This game is totally worth $40 bucks or under imo.
The White-guilt is strong with this one
I'm checking this game out because of your video
Forspoken is a game of the year contender imo. I just got it for xmas, i feel bad the rep this amazing game got. Its incredible
I completely agree. I can't get enough of this game. It looks and feels amazing with some minor annoyances here, and there, other than that, I am astonished that the company failed due to this game. This company should sue for defamation if that's possible.
People wouldn’t know a good game from a bad one because of twitter memes and hate bandwagon.
Great game. I love you now for this opinion ❤
I think I'll pick up Star Ocean next thanks to your review @ircha. Especially as a fan of the series, thanks again for the review.
I recently picked up Forspoken for $9.50….And I bloody love it!! I don't see how people trashed this game. The story is good, the visuals are excellent, the combat is phenomenal and I love Frey as a character! I definitely agree with you @ircha in regards to "cancel" culture review bombing this game. Me personally, I give it an 8.5 rating. And as far as Frey being a rude protagonist, she sounds like a typical New Yorker, and I'm from Brooklyn. We can be crass and rude at times but we're honest. I don't speak for all New Yorkers but hearing Frey talk reminded me of home.
Funny how one youtuber does a video and everyone else jumps on making another. It was a bad game, thats it lmao.
I just baught this for $30 the gameplay is great story is garbage i just skip all the cutscenes this game is definitely not worth full price but for $25 $30 its pretty good worth that price if i paid full price i would of regretted it for sure
I give starfield a 5/10 and forspoken a 7/10. Starfield is very sterile game in every aspect for a bgs game. its a soulless product. The planets sucks to explore the npcs are bland.
Forspoken there is not much to this game but the combat and fluidity is amazing. The world is huge and empty but its so fun to just run around and parkour.
People hated the main characters but the protagonist and deuteragonist remind me of anime characters so I don't mind too much. Its only a 7 out of 10 because aside from the main quest there is not really much to do and the world is so empty they could of added more interesting side quests around the map instead of repeated dungeons.
This game is such a hidden gem. Thanks for the reviews.
Couldn‘t agree more about Forspoken. While it has it‘s flaws, it‘s soooo addictive and I somehow couldn‘t help but to replay it immediately again. And like you said, movement in every other third person game feels so slo-mo after Forspoken x)
A review that doesn't bash one of the few games I platinumed this year? What is this craziness. The combat, the graphics, the visual style and feel of the world, the parkour and the music in Forspoken are all absolutely delightful. Yes, Frey can be a bit jarring with her attitude but eh, she's had a life and her attitude reflects her past. Yes, the banter between her and the cuff can get a bit repetitive, but just tune it down or turn it off if it bothers too much. And yes, the world is void of other people, and even though there is a lore explanation for it, it would've been nice if there was at least one other city or town somewhere out there. It's not a perfect game, I struggle to find one that is, but it is a definitive highlight of my gaming year for damn sure.
