watching this in 2024 for the PC launch next week!
I finally got m hands on a PS5 last week and am now chewing through my backlog. Currently in the last quarter (I guess?) of GoW 2018. I am blown away by the game. It looks phenomenal, plays really well, side content is meaningful, voice acting, graphics, performance, general atmosphere, choreography, story…I am incredibly impressed by the quality of not one aspect but the whole package that is delivered here. I am taking my time but can’t wait to jump into Ragnarok right after!
Out of all the things this game does great….the writing and script surpasses all. The story that is told is why I play games. This is art in the highest form. Kudos to the writers who crafted a heartfelt story and left all of the activism and bs out of it.
I would disagree strongly with the notion that this game is a “video game ass video game” they too often sacrifice player experience for story and cutscenes. The amount of moments where i felt like i should be playing rather than watching and others where i felt like they played it too safe for the sake of story and didnt go for the most fun experience for the player.
I dont think they can do a live action better..
this is not 40 hours. This is like 100 hours. I did play it on the show no mercy difficulty.
Totally agree on the Faye point Jake, couldn’t tell what it was but you hit it right on the nose. For example I loved when you walk past the light of Alfheim again, and Kratos can’t help but want to be with Faye again. But then seeing them actually together (even in a dream sequence) took some of the emotion out of it
Wish I had PlayStation
Wish I had PlayStation
I’m about 10 hours in and pretty let down so far. Everything that they made strides on in 2018 from the small story &focused character development is just totally convoluted and they lost their grasp in Ragnarok. They sort of have a tone crisis in this as well. I feel that Ragnarok so far feels a lot like the Star Wars sequels and 2018 was Empire Strikes Back.
Also, something that happens on/off throughout the game was so distracting and pulled me out of the game completely. Every time it happened I had no interest in playing and I was just trying to hurry up past those parts. IYKYN
Absolutely loved this game and agreed with your take on it. I grew up playing this series and was the first game to ever get me in trouble from the nudity lol. Got the pleasure to beat it 100% this morning while dealing with impaired vision from two ulcers in my eyes. If I do end up losing my sight, I'm extremely happy this was the last game i get to beat.
Wonderful video, your commentary is right up there with dunky and skill up for me. I especially love all your references to old gow and ps2/3 era stuff, that was my favorite!
I just came back to this video after platting GoWR and I have to say this video is super spoiler-y. I don't think it's possible to even have a commentary on a game like this without spoilers. Obviously you are not giving away anything specific but thats more than enough for someone who wants to be completely spoiler-free. I purposely did not watch ANY GoWR content for this reason, even trailers. Sorry I don't want to be super harsh but for anyone trying to come into the game 100% cold, watch this video after you play most of the story. For others who are not so fanatical, dive right in, this video rocks!
As someone who didn’t love the 2018 God of War, Ragnarok is more what I wanted its predecessor to be. I still think the game could have been more violent like the originals but the combat feels more fun for sure. So far, I’m really enjoying the game!
Polished? Yes, More? Yes, Exciting? No
Very gamy, very hand holding, very on the rails movement, really annoying puzzles. Very fortnite color palette (very bright neon-like colors).
Combat is hard to enjoy due to stiff camera movement.
Movie like quality in-game cut scenes.
Cool textures and water effects. Impressive character models.
I do wish in future games from now, that they combine the traversal with the combat bosses, like in the old games, I like using the blades to traverse cliffs and zipping points
I love the stories we hear when we do those favors and side quests. Gives us way more “story time” for their backstories.
Dude I love the way you break down the game it's amazing
My negative opinions on the way they portray Kratos aside, there is one very good scene in the game where he says and does something so damn badass. Possible spoiler: he asks a character “what is your decision?” just before gripping his axe in one hand. The camera angle, the lighting and the timing were just damn perfect. This game is very well directed.
I think I’m half way through the game and my opinion so far is that it strays a little too far into cheesy territory. Kratos is a different character in God of War 2018 compared to the previous installments but in this one he is a bit too compassionate for a lack of a better word. In fact, most of the characters are portrayed in a way that I don’t like and some plot lines that I wish went in a different direction. Also, there is a very long segment in the game that was just a slog to get through for me. I hope that it changes my mind as I progress through it but so far it hasn’t met my expectations from the excitement I had looking forward to it based on the ending of 2018 God of War. In the end, I really wish Santa Monica would develop a God of War game, even if it’s a spinoff, in the same vein as God of War 3. I believe with the advancement in tech they can create something amazing and brutal as all hell like that game was.
I kinda worried, with the end, is like a finally peaceful ending for Kratos and some kind of new approach to Egypt… Maybe with Atreyus/Loki, our boy is now a Man
GOW 2018 rekindled my love for single players story games, and set a standard so high it hasn’t been matched until now. Ragnarök is a masterpiece! 🤩
I don't wanna beat the game because it's so good it's like I don't won't it to be over
Just finished GOW 2018 earlier today and now I’m hearing that Mimir says fuck a lot in Ragnarok? Definitely getting it now lol that sounds hilarious
2018 was a revelation for GOW. Currently playing Ragnarok only 10 hours in. Im going to slowly digest this game. Been playing since GOW 2 back on PS2.
Game is fun, but it's not a 10/10. I kinda lost a little interest and started playing Pokemon Scarlet, will return later.
Ps4 version is any good?
Awesome game halfway through… Not everyone plays modern warfare online…. Thanks Sony and Monica 🙏
