Big thanks to @PineappleExpressGaming for allowing me to use some of their footage of the game!
I literally could not be bothered to play this game again for some of the footage I needed, and they saved me the headache.
When hes talking about how much time the game wastes by shimming etc. He shows the clip where it ends with him fighting an enemy that comes out of the vents. Well right after you finish that guy you proceed to open a vent to crawl through it for about 10 15 seconds
To hear lemon, LEMON! say nothing positive about a game. My god, the people who planned this game should be ashamed. Lemon is a kind and generous soul. So to hear that Lemon does not approve, wow.
Still thank you for your grip only run. Was a nice watch
Biggest disappointment of the last few years. Undercooked story, really bizarre combat and it's just not scary at all. Graphics are lovely though ill give them that.
Dead Space Remake on the other hand, was absolutely incredible
Iirc Mandalore’s review mentioned that the vents and shimmying and such were apparently to tie the levels together instead of making pathways, which… is a really bad sign
After a year of play an absorbing this game. I got to say, this game is a misunderstood masterpiece. The combat actually really rocks, the atmosphere and art style is extremely immersive. The ending and the story is extremely horrific and thought-provokingly interesting. I can't fathom how anyone talk down about this game.
I did the opposite I focused on my tele glove. When you max it out you’re unstoppable. I could take out almost any arena almost exclusively with it; if there were things to use in the environment with it. I really liked it and it helped me enjoy the mediocre combat
11:43 Dark Souls laugh. Sinister but resigned.
i always feel bad for games like this. every second of it oozes "we wanna be like _insert well liked game here_!", while fundamentally misunderstanding why it was good. dead space had vents and shimmys, so we have to have them too. deadspace had grapples with horrific fatalities if you fail it, so we have to have them too. same with kinesis. same with guns that all have unique secondary modes.
when all you take is the surface elements of another game and make your entire game out of them, your game can and will only ever be shallow and soulless.
You forgot the most important alternate recommendation of all: Signalis.
That game, now that game is utterly brilliant.
I'm not even that into survival horror, and even I love it.
I had so much hope for this game
If you truly find the game to be that awful then For the Love of All that is good and decent in the world don't waste your time by doing a challenge run for Callisto protocol only do challenge runs for games you actually like
A
And yet for some reason, I had fun when I first played it and am itching to replay it in March 2024. Can’t explain it
Another shimmy… 😂
I can see a lot of hate, and I just wanna throw my hat into the ring. My playthrough was 15.7 hours. I beat it on the hardest difficulty, and I enjoyed it for what it was. I can see the time sinks you saw, but I viewed some of them as resource decision making. Waste the bullets, or take the health damage. Make your choice. But yeah, not a lot to redeem some of those long segments of shimmy and ladders. The game especially fell off toward the end with a mediocre plotline and repetitive use of a "mid"-boss in the final segments. Really not a good look.
But I LOVED the melee to be honest. It took a step away from the "Shoot their limbs" and "maintain distance" formula of Dead Space. Sure, there's the flamer, but it was so satisfying to finally take the fight to the enemy. I dislike horror. Or rather, I dislike horror that I can't fight. That's why I'll never play FNAF, but will spend hours playing Dead Space, GTFO, and so on. But in CP, swallowing my fears and tearing them limb from limb made me feel closer to the Doom Slayer than just a guy. It was a personal power fantasy, and I loved it for that.
And again, I can see how you and others feel, but I just wanted to share that I was indeed someone who enjoyed the game and could look past the flaws you posed. It also helped that I was recording the game for YT (which fell through). I decided to immerse myself in the atmosphere and focus on reacting rather than view it as a waste of time.
I bought a trainer for this game just to speed up the shimmy and vents. I beat the game in like 4 hours. wish I hadn't paid 100$ for it.
I got the impression from the confused combat choices that it started out being about difficult combat where the melee would be a last resort, but then people had too hard of a time when playing it – and it was too late in development to rehaul the system – so they made dodging easy. The problem, as you elaborate on, is that this takes the tension out of the combat entirely. And when the combat is a core part of the experience, that's not something you can bandage your way out of.
Am I the only person in this comment section who actually liked this game?
I like the qte’s and shimming, Just me
It takes 3 if you play it straight without looking for stuff
A challenge run in Callisto Protocol? I don't think we want to wait 2 decades for your next video
What I don’t understand about the Callisto Protocol is why it wasn’t a movie. Remove the gameplay, string the cutscenes together, and do a little editing and adding where necessary and you have a gorgeously animated thriller movie. When I first saw commercials for this game, I seriously thought it was a movie.
The combat ALMOST works. The melee was so visceral and could have been great but they just made it so shallow with the shitty dodge mechanic. Overall this legit may be the most disappointing game I ever purchased. Such a massive missed opportunity to make something great.
"Crawlspaceto protocol"….amiright?
Callisto Protocol aka Deadspace [NOT the Remake] with a different skin including the clunkyness from back then does it look cool sure does it play well yeah no its just boring shit over and over and over.
So they removed what made Deadspace stand out slapped in mobile game combat and taped on a new Skin to make it look cool and not get sued by EA seems like thats a smart move rescycle a game from 10+ years ago and think people will tolerate clunkyness from back then just because it has a new fancy paintjob. xD
And yes I bought the Game on sale what a waste of money the dollar per hour ratio is down in the dumpster like lemon said watch a walkthrough or a let's play or whatever this game is not worth its pricetag not even on sale dont get me started on its fullprice.
"Alright, let's jump in…. To my 🎵CALISTO BOOK REPORRRRT!🎵"
Sucks he don't wear the helmet much in this game. Sort of the "covers always lie" trope going on. Don't want to see the actors baldy head.
Are you recording the game with a potato?
Sitting here with my kid asleep in my arms feeling shocked as another adult refers to me as an adult.
What’s sad is shimmies can be exciting and anxiety inducing. All you have to add is enemies and guns but I’ve never seen one game studio try and add those things
9:45 when that toilet head guy your kid watches makes you see this part and hear the skat music.
I had a game breaking glitch that prevented my dodge from working, even with auto dodge turned on. At first I thought it was me, then I had someone else try and no that mechanic was just broken.
I have a I7 GTX 765m 16Gb ram. but im planning on buying Callisto and when i do ill use Cheats.
I feel like i was the only person who actually enjoyed this game but then they tossed it all out with a lame ass dlc that last less then 2 hours for 15 only to show you what should have been just the regular ending
Why was this video age restricted? What was so mature about it? Am I missing something?
You just not liking Elden Ring certainly explains why you haven't played it on the channel yet. A lot clicked with that one droplet of information.
Ive never seen a YouTuber who was given a product for free and then had the balls to shit on said product for the entire review video
You have my respect lemon
Is it Doom? Is it Dead Space? Is it Bioshock or Bioshock 2? Is it Destiny? Is it Half-Life? No. It's "The Callisto Protocol." That'll be $59.99 (again).
This game is basically last of us without any writers
This game is for people that are just bad at videogames but still want to feel like accomplished gamers.
Daaaaamn
I clearly remember the way the dodging animations broke my brain when I first saw them in footage.
I personally liked this game. Not for everyone, but yeah good game in my book
Oh man, is the footage from the game play around minute 12:00 unedited? I’m not surprised at that point you said “fuck this game”.
The monotony of tight space/ladder and enemies which are a simple qte is not atmospheric is just poorly done.
Hell I played walking sims in which I was more engaged.
Also it is not about QA, they are not decisions makers. The higher ups are taking decisions.
The part with you showing time tax and the constant shimmying really is irritating, id probably stop playing the game and just watch the rest on YouTube. Good Lord what were they smoking when they decided all these tired mechanics. It's safe to say all the money when to the graphics and facial animations.
