i tried playing cuphead on my friends nintendo switch for the first time abt 2 months ago and i couldnt compleate the first run and gun level 😭
I hundred percented cup head. I have no respect for game journalists.
Honestly seeing the cuphead tutorial makes me cry of how relatable this was
"The stage of grief"
1)these journalist have lifes
2)gaming review is their lifes
Some people are bad at making clickbaity video essays. It's all good.
IGN’s review of Sonic Unleashed in 2008 was even dumber. Because the journalist who reviewed the game was struggling at the daytime stages (which are extremely easy), the game was given a 4/10.
If game journalists had anything interesting to say, they wouldn't have to race to be first. That's something you do to get noticed instead of being good. Someone with talent and a unique point of view could publish his review weeks after a game's launch, and his readers would look forward to it. That is how many popular Youtubers operate. The fact is, what passes for a "game journalist" today is nothing more than a generic content monkey, whose job is to litter the internet with clickbait, and who will shortly be replaced by AI.
It bears stating that there is literally instructions on screen that say to jump and then dash and most of the time he wasn't even following the instructions, so it's not just being bad at games.
It's like the instructions unclear meme, Dean Takahashi tries to make scrambled eggs: somehow winds up with his scrotum stuck in the can opener.
Of course they are bad, they get paid to put 8's and 9's scores not to objectively play the game, hell I am sure most don't even play the games.
Writing about something as a journalist doesn't always mean you're passionated or good at that thing. To make it simple, while a skilled gamer can become a journalist by adding some good research, critical thinking and writing skills to his profile, a good gaming journalist isn't necessarily a skilled gamer.
Please stop showing the clip, ngl it’s legitimately hurting my eyes 😁 4:30
I remember seeing games magazines when Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire and the original Kingdom Hearts in 2002 and how they were considered difficult.
It's so true that people's opinions can change over time, I used to not like Hollow Knight that much, but I gave it another chance and it's one of my favorite games! I still kinda suck at the game but it's a great feeling when I beat a boss without help
You flatter them by calling them journalists.
They are paid shills for the big corps.
Nothing more.
They probably don't even play games.
So basically I can be a gaming journalist before I can be a gamer
Most of them even find it difficult to determine their gender.
1 Week to write a review and still not enough time?
A game normal play through would take 20-60 Hour.
Let give 3 days to play still got 4 days to write not to mention no really need to play till finish but at least give 1 idea if can even pass half of it. But journalist would not even bother to pass stage 1 is the problem.
Because they’re not gamers
How did Takahashi upload it "as a joke"? Was his DOOM (Eternal) gameplay also a joke? Lol
RAIN WORLD MENTIONED S+++++++
but lets be real who isnt bad at cup head like thats terrible but still
I take gameplay videos like that cuphead disaster as something to laugh about, nothing else. I mean, I do still wonder what was going on his mind that couldn't even pass the tutorial easily, maybe brain fog or something. But I just forget and move on.
However it gets serious when the same game journalists start writing articles like "gamers are bad, toxic, sexist" and such crap. It's only half part of the story that some of them might not be that good, but when they have a saying in the whole gaming culture and they collide with each other to tell the same story about "toxic gamers", that's when I am done.
The other issue here is, games have been becoming too handholding, and every thing like this makes some big brain game designers to think "Oh, maybe our tutorials weren't helpful enough, what else can we do to not confuse the player?". This goes so far that you have games that are already so simplified, so 100% hand holding but that's not enough. I remember I was playing some game with the most simplified game puzzles ever (and that was some Telltale game that's more like interactive movie and more restricted than even classic adventures) and I saw the very simple puzzle, I tried to do something about it, and before that there was a cinematic of a robot telling me "Oh, maybe you should try that solution". They told me the solution for something that was very obvious and easy already in a very restricted linear environment that doesn't let you move and do other things. Like f** off!
Video game "journalists" are not video game players, they are bloggers.
the real game journalists are gaming youtubers while the fake ones are using legacy media the biggest propaganda tool
I swear to god all of this started with dsp not knowing how to crouch jump
I was thinking about in my head "rain world is a good example" and thrn you mentioned rain world and i desintegrated
To is not being bad that is the problem, the problem is the lack of love for videogames, watching something like Playstation access or outside xbox, where we can see the love they have for this media in their writing, shows me the the is not a skill issue, at least to me.
Its because game journalists are all alphabet mafia activist weirdos, not gamers.
I wonder how much impact it would have if Dean were to record himself beating a difficult game (or if he did do that and it went unnoticed, making my comment useless)
Be mean to Dean! That SAP
Stop putting on your "reading voice" and over inflecting. Just talk normal.
Lol Dean is me fr 💀
cause theyre not gamers
Cuphead isn't super duper hard but its pretty boring to play, also pretty annoying. Not a great game imo but i'm not huge into indie games so probably why
Too much water.
I was a journalist for GameStop around 2006, there wasn't a lot of time for me playing a game, it was like 3 games a week. Some games, okay, after an two hours in it, you got the gist and you could write a review, but there were games with story, which should be completed. And doing so for 3 games in a single week is kinda hard 🙂If you want to do your job well, I mean, of course you can "fast forward" through a game in a day or so, if you want, but then you basically must write nonsense like ChatGPT when halucinating 😀
Same thing that happened with cup head happened to rain world, it’s an absolutely amazing game yet critics trashed it because they didn’t understand that the point of the game is that it takes time and by dying you learn to overcome challenges, so they were stuck in the early levels and couldn’t see the true beauty of the game
Edit: HOLY SHIT I WROTE THIS HALF WAY THROUGH THE VID AND HE MENTIONED IT AHHHAHAHAHAHA
i dont care if journalist is bad at the games, but they have to be a gamer so they know its hard by design or by bad gameplay. and giving bad review because of still issue is pathetic
Not all IGN reviews are bad IGN hungary makes "slopy tests" of games which just presents how fun the game is. My favourite is the on about State of Decay 2 and Elden Ring
It's said that SEGA has never made a Sonic Unleashed PC port because of how IGN dragged the game through the mud back in 2008
The reviewer played terribly and never got to the ending of the game
On top of that he had the audacity to start the video/article with something along the lines of "Don't buy this game is you value money"
A journalist once said Mario Wonder was hard . . .
It's the easiest Mario game!
imagine calling a game bad because of your skill isuee
No one that majors in journalism hopes to one day work at IGN. They took the job because they couldn’t get a job at the times or the post. Some of these people haven’t played a video game since grade school.

It's always fun to look at what they say about Rain World. Usually half of it is intentional things listed as bad things, the rest is "skill issue"
