While it definitely doesn't live up to the hype, for me it's not a bad game either. It's still a decent to good sci-fi survival horror that has "first game syndrome" and needs a lot of fleshing out and refinement. The performance issues on PC are pretty bad though.

My favorite part is when you climb up the chains into the round pool room if you go into the next hallway and let the monster chase you into the round pool they cannot cause you any damage it's quite entertaining
I'm playing the PS4 version on the PS5 and the game is literally crashed on me every 15 minutes
Just got this on sale from Steam Summer sale (75% off) – and gotta say: while the game is eye candy, the combat is terrible. Also, the stomp-to-loot mechanic is a whole bunch of wtf. They were obviously attempting to pad time with a crap mechanic.
Game surprised me, enjoyed it despite its bugs and clumsy combat.
If there is a sequel it has potential
I got to the last chapter and got so fed up with the inconsistent input response times, which make you get your ass kicked all the time, that I deleted the game. What a cheesy way to make a game challenging. The game might be good on PS5 but if you are playing it on a PC it is not so good.
I adore Callisto. Its combat system is unique and totally works for me. I thought it was a hard game in my first playthrough, but I got a lot more confortable with the gameplay after I put it on Max security. The atmosphere is awesome, so are the graphics and the art direction. 10th playthrough (New Game + this time) and going on. I will dive the Hardcore mode as soon as its available and can't wait for the story DLC. Me and my ego love this game, too bad it didn't resonate with more people. I just want this team to succeed!!!
This is going to be a fun weekend when its $20
This game ultra sucks.
I was a huge fan of the first Dead Space (the other 2 were good). I haven't played this yet but I want to. The main impression I have from all the reviews is that I should wait for at least a half off sale.
I rather enjoyed it for what it was, issues and all. I had literally zero performance issues on PC and run an rtx 3060. Granted I think I started playing post most of the patches.
From what I've seen so far of others playing it, it seems like there are some good ideas in the game but it definitely needed more dev time. I'm not sure if the fact that the Dead Space Remake is coming out late January has anything to do with the game being released the way it did… but I can't help but feel if they had just decided to release it later, and give it a few extra months or maybe even a year of development, they could have ironed out the issues and maybe even refined the gameplay.
Would've definitely meant less crunch time for the devs, too.
The game ran real smooth on my base ps4 except for crashing once. It was a good game I thought
SO its a pretty CONSOLE GAME…………
The heavy emphasis on melee combat really hindered the horror experience for me. You're essentially encouraged to get up close and personal with the enemies instead of trying to keep them at arms length with your firearms which completely nullifies the tension. That's what I thought anyways 😕
I’m just turned off by the sheer amount of hits you need to do just to put a single regular enemy down. Are you cutting a tree down or trying to strike a deadly blow to a humanoid creature? It’s like the damage model follows Fortnite’s or something. You’d be dead of exhaustion before you even cleared the first 30 mins of level 1.
reviewing without finishing?
The Death scenes got boring and the fact you could not skip the ones you had seen was a negative. It would be quicker to reload the checkpoint then sit through the death animation and the game to reload
I think, for the dodging alone, this game is a hard no for me. It's not that it's terrible per se or that I definitely wouldn't get into the flow of it eventually. It's more like I don't want to develop that reflex, because no other game is going to use that system. Every combat focused game is going to rely mostly on the one-button dodge mechanic, it's far simpler and I'm sure less of a pain to program. I don't think it's worth developing that reflex for a game that seems remarkably average at best.
However, if, in a potential sequel, they do better with the game overall and decide to keep said combat mechanic, then at that point I will consider it.
Cannot agreed more. I am playing the PS5 version with no issues with performance. The monsters are the same everywhere you go. Story is linear and not much puzzles or findings like RE or Dead Space.
You go from A to B. Kill some monsters. Get some credits. Upgrade your weapons…….. and repeat again…….. Nothing scary about it. I am about 3 hrs into the game and already bored.
My quick review of the PS4 Version:
Let's get the bad out of the way. The reload times are annoyingly long, your always squeezing in-between and crawling through things, NO NEW GAME PLUS (Currently), the game is short enough to where i didn't even need to unlock or purchase any other weapons other than the ones I was given, the combat seems clunky and the dodge is too easy. They should have added mini games when "breaking in" to the electronic panels. Instead all you do is cut the same wire over and over. Camera control and movements were slow and even when running it felt like you were lightly jogging. Enemies all seemed to die in relatively the same manner so you didn't have to change it up much in this game. As of writing this (Dec 11, 2022) Trophies are still bugged and I'm not even able to view them.
The good: The storyline was well done. There is a small variety of weapons to use in this game, and it seems like there is a new game plus in the works along with free Dlc.
Overall: The game is mid at best. I'm not sure how long it took to make this game but I cant imagine very long. The gameplay was fun at times but because I was always squeezing through tight spaces and the reload times were quite long, it really killed my interest and pace at times. This won't get game of the year but hopefully new game plus and the dlc will bring it up to snuff. I really wanted to like this game but it was short and lacked a lot of meat and potatoes so to speak.
Callisto protocol, more like Garbage
I am playing and I am enjoying it no issue
I call shenanigans. The Callisto Protocol is a subpar project that can't be fixed. The art style is boring and the game design is bad. It also appears to have been rushed to get it out the door despite not being complete. The core mechanics are bad. PC optimization is the least of it's worries.
I have been playing the game fro 3 days now wait for a sale.
The performance and the fight against multiple enemies was the only crap part about this game.
I died so many times because of that spitting bastard because you can't dodge a projectile but you dodge melee hits….
Its like they never tested this game's combat against multiple enemies.
they peaked when they made dead space huh? 😆
There’s actually a video that of console comparisons and it actually ran the best on the series X. If you play on 30fps the ps5 stutters very often
The combat sucks
Huge Dead Space fan here and a big fan of all horror games
This game is definitely worth the buy. Is it the best survival horror game? No. But its definitely good enough for sure and i certainly hope it gets a sequel
It's getting more and more a proven great approach to ignore games on release date.
The amount of games that have serious issues on release lately is like 90%
I'll wait a couple months to a year and then play them
Dodging Simulator The Game 2022
What I got from this video is that everything, from gameplay, combat, story, tone, design is at its basic level "meh." But the only thing going for it is its visual presentation.
Next.
Nothing about this game scary, beat the entire game and feels like fighting same 2 enemies over and over again. Also when make melee weapon and unlimited dodge all fear goes away. The theory of level design this game basically walking down straight corridor for 14 hours straight, feel liking walking to stage set to stage set instead begin living world. Lastly the 1 hit your dead bosses beyond horrible game design. I love space horror & Dead Space and wanted this to be the next successor of that but it’s all the worst elements of bad horror games put into one game.
If there is sequel take away the melee weapon & dodge, let the tension build, focus on design encounters and world building. Look at how RE Remake 2 , and how they build fear instead instead having your first level filled with 20 monsters offscreen while walking around, kill 50 enemies then try to build fear.
I had higher hopes for this game from the creators Dead Space instead feels game made by team never done horror game before.
Many issues at launch. Crashes being the worst, but inconsistent game mechanics are almost as bad.
Yongyea did you experiment with the various death animations during a playthrough? While the 1st playthrough would have shown you some gruesome ones from tougher enemies there's some really gruesome deaths from enemies you might have never died from. Its something I've not heard many reviewers speak of but i do think this game excels Dead Space in terms of deaths for your character, if nothing else.
The game looks gorgeous, but with limited immatory space and forced maylay combat, I sure as h*** will not be buying this game.
Hey thanks for ruining the story for me bud
Game is great
The automatic dodge really ruined the whole game for me…
I really wish that I waited I guess I was just excited about something that would be sort of like dead space but the maylay is way too clunky for me. Also I'm having a couple of issues with bugs as in I walked into a room and fell directly through the floor to my death basically for no reason. Also certain items won't appear or certain actions to get to the next part won't actually Work whenever you press the accorded key that you need. And the load times between deaths and I'm playing just on a playlist for I knew that I wouldn't have the greatest Fidelity it plays rather OK but taking almost 30 to 60 seconds between each death is absurd to me
This game is getting slammed by most reviewers but if I’m being honest I’m having a blast playing it. I’m on Xbox Series X and I’ve had no trouble with Technical problems. It’s alot like Dead Space but with a strategic melee/ to gun combat system that actually feels quite nice when you get it down. There are some times when it can be a little frustrating with multiple enemies, especially in boss fights dealing with the side enemies while trying to dodge the boss. But all in all I’ve had fun with this game and think it deserves more credit than it’s getting.
