I think many people in the PC space have been looking for Microsoft to follow up on its initial Copilot+ PC story from May with a bit of “what’s next,” and this announcement today is just that.

First, we NEED to get Recall in the hands of more people to try it out. Looks like Windows Insiders will get it this month if you are on a Snapdragon based CP+ PC, and in November if you are on Intel or AMD. That’s progress, but not fast enough, wide enough for my liking. Apple Intelligence is rolling out and Microsoft needs to keep ahead to maintain thought leadership in the AI PC segment.

And while Cocreator and Live Translate were great Copilot+ PC features, new ones like Click to Do, updated Search, image upscaling, and generative fill/erase are MUCH MORE impactful for consumers and will drive more interest.

Click to Do has an odd name, but a powerful potential set of capabilities. In my interpretation, it basically allows AI to look at your screen and find options of what you might want to do looking at the text, at images. Click to search an image on a webpage; click a block of text that is URL to visit; click to remove background on image. A global AI that is thinking, only when you ask it, ‘what is it you’re trying to do?’ and offering suggestions. Pretty cool.

Features like image upscaling, context fill and context erase are more easy to understand, but the fact they are coming to integrated Paint and Photos, to anyone with a Copilot+ PC, is the astounding point.

And fixing Windows Search is maybe the most obvious, most needed change I can ask for!

These new features increase the value prop of on-device AI processing with Copilot+ PC devices dramatically. I’m looking forward to testing them out and getting hands on with the broader, more complete AI feature set.
