Through all of our previews of The Callisto Protocol we really liked it. However when we played the full game there was one really …

So glad I started out on Easy (Minimum Security) because I’m having a great time with it and the difficulty spikes aren’t that bad. I feel like a lot of people reviewed the game poorly because they got frustrated with dying over and over which is a valid complaint I guess… nothing ruins fun faster than frustration. If you’re struggling with this game, just play on Easy… it’s more enjoyable. You bought the product so don’t let any hArDcOrE gamer shame you for playing the game you bought on whichever difficult you want… that’s why difficulty options exist in the first place.
If you don't like the combat then put it on easy and treat it like a shooter and only use melee every now and then. I can deal with loads of enemies and it's really enjoyable.
The problem it faces is there no real start middle or end, it's just kind of one big part and while that does hurt the game a bit , it's still a great game. It's not as scary as I thought but I enjoyed it
Collisto protocol is fantastic If you loved Dead space you will love this game. No its not easy yes you will die alot. However if you use your brain and use some strategies you can get past the difficult parts of this game. As your progress you get more tools to use . Get past the first chapter and develop your character enjoy the adventure .
Are gaming journalists even gamers? The combat is not hard.. challenging but not frustrating.. also I think the melee is meant for just one person hence the addition of guns
Just because you're terrible at the combat system doesn't make it terrible the game's awesome
The reviews for this is all over the place. In the last preview at this website GamesRadar played a significant amount and said the combat was amazing. First thing said in the review, bad combat 😐. Then he says it's too hard, but other reviews like IGN say your character is too powerful and it's too easy 🤷🏾♂️. I can deal with different opinions but a lot of reviews are just saying completely contradicting things.
this sounds like a skill issue
It’s funny I thought the opposite when it was just one enemy the combat didn’t intrigue me that much but when there were more enemies I liked it more and got a hang of it. Shooting one then running away helps and highering sensitivity
What if they intended the game to be this way? I know it sounds crazy but, think about it if u really bout to get jumped then u bout to get jumped nobody is waiting a turn lol
I think this game is excellent and contrary to what 99.9% will say, I do think it's innovative in 1 single aspect. Which is precisely the combat. Now, don't get me wrong, Callisto Protocol ISN'T a true Survival Horror like Resident Evil (and I'm not sure it ever marketed itself as one), it's more of an action horror game.
It's a bit hard to explain but, Survival Horror is a genre trapped in it's own tropes and mechanics. Every single game in the genre tried to copy either oldschool RE games or RE4, including Dead Space. Callisto Protocol on the other hand takes inspiration from it but decides to put more player agency into the melee combat system. Like, the first few hours of the game literally felt like playing The Surge, if The Surge was a horror game. Which leads me to the difficulty… I think the game hits a perfect sweet spot with it because if you put this combat system into a horror game, you kill the horror because your character is overpowered, but if the combat is a player skill based system that is very punishing it ends up injecting the feeling of horror back into the game. Every single combat encounter in the game is a moment of problem solving and I think it's great.
It's funny to me because most people expected a survival horror exactly like Dead Space and got very disappointed with it. I went in expecting a survival horror exactly like Dead Space and ended up with my expectations blown out of the water. Do I like the traditional survival horror games? Yes I do, but I also think every single game in the genre tries to do the same thing and I'm positively surprised by how Callisto Protocol drinks from the same fountain but adds something that drastically makes it stand out.
This might be either the most interesting or the most stupid thing you heard today depending on your opinion. But to me Callisto Protocol makes a very thin bridge between Survival Horror games and Souls Likes. I know it's a meme to mention Souls Likes in everything nowadays, but it's just how I feel. Don't get me wrong, the game isn't anywhere close to being like a Souls game, but I wouldn't be surprised if souls fans felt attracted to this particular horror game, because the melee combat really feels like a dance in which the player and the enemies take turns, there are attack patters etc. At least I feel this way.
Lol the game is easy and the combat is pretty much last of us 2
I dont trust this guy at all!
How do we know that you're even worthy to listen to?
Gave it a low score cuz you suck at it! 🤣
Love your content, but I don’t understand all of the hate that The Callisto Protocol is receiving TBH. I’m 4hrs into it on my Series X & loving every moment! Not as scary as anticipated, but the graphics, gameplay & story SLAP! 🔥🔥🔥
Journalists proud for playing on easy mode. What a surprise!!!
So easy mode is easy. Check. I have a friend who loves games that are hard on purpose so he will probably love planning on normal. And then complain about.
See Digital Foundry's tech review before buying!
Another 'Cross-Gen' rip off. 2 years since 9th Gen console release. This is now ridiculous. Who would have guessed EA would be involved.
I have a feeling these guys don’t play many fromsoft games.
This and gamespot are 2 reviewer that give low score because they feel the game are too hard. Sounds like a you problem rather than game design
The Combat is really fluid to me. Easy to get down and when you do dodging and blocking and taking quick shots are all fluid
Combat is fine git gud noob
Anyone else going from negative review to negative review to bash the reviewers and saying they suck at games?
We haven't had a hard game since the last of us part 2 I still don't get why some developers think it's a good idea to make horror game easy, that's why I know Callisto will be good game waiting for my copy now it's coming today 🥳
You dummies that preordered got screwed 😂😅
This guy can't play on normal difficulty? Holy hell!
Not really intrigued by the melee with the weird dodging system. I wish they would have focused more on just gunplay with minor melee elements
Don’t care what anybody said I’m still buying it
IGN reviewer said it was super easy, and jacob felt overpowered even on the hardest difficulty lol, maybe u didn't "got" the dodge mechanics? Also, some other random video reviews i seen on youtube praised the combat, yet bashed the hell out of the story and other stuff, this review says the exact opposite. The only constant negatives from all the reviews i'v seen are the linearity and the lack of enemy variety.
“Deep dive”
This review just makes him sound like he's bad at games
Bro…by definition you literally said you have a skill issue 😐 (and gave it a bad rating because of it)
The combat is fine, you just suck – watching 3:30 was painful
Can’t wait for Dead Space remake…
To hard…. oh boy get ready for the "get good" comments
If reviewers are getting destroyed, it's my kind of game.
I'm waiting to beat it before I tell you to git gud
gamepass day1
I guess I'll save my money for the Dead Space remake. I'll probably pick this up on sale at some point.
Get gud kid
Got my refund on this, anyone wanting to play this on PC, just don't even think of buying it, it has shutters all over the place, and I installed it on an SSD, with a 5900x and 4090…. you just can't run this game.
3 out of 5 stars…the game is just to hard for me.
Git gud
“It’s a really good syfy game with some awful combat” I think everyone was hoping for an evolution of dead space with this spiritual successor and we got a lesser version of the same.
