Enhancements to the Dell PowerStore offering earlier this year revealed how Dell Technologies Inc. has pursued its strategic direction for AI-ready storage.
The company’s announcement of PowerStore Prime in May was the most substantial release of the storage solution in four years. PowerStore, an all-flash platform with intelligent and adaptable data storage, is geared toward flexible solutions to meet the evolving needs of AI workloads. This includes the integration of networking with compute and storage, a key element in Dell’s strategic approach to enterprise AI.
“What we bet on is that networking needs to be integrated with compute and storage and be very high throughput,” said Travis Vigil, senior vice president of product management at Dell, during an interview with theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. “The networking strategy we picked to get high-performance switches with significant throughput and fully integrate the stack with compute is exactly what AI needs.”
During the Smarter Storage for Tomorrow’s Opportunities event on October 28, theCUBE will take a closer look at how Dell is building on the momentum of its PowerStore announcements from earlier this year. And don’t miss our Asia-Pacific broadcast on October 29. The event will feature interviews with key Dell executives and partners who will provide fresh insight into the role of PowerStore in deploying enterprise-wide AI solutions. (* Disclosure below.)
Enhancing multicloud data mobility with Dell PowerStore
The most recent updates for Dell PowerStore were designed to enhance performance, efficiency, resiliency and multicloud data mobility. Software advancements included new features for safeguarding critical workloads with native synchronous replication for block and file storage. Dell’s enhancements allow users to integrate more fully with the company’s data protection solutions.
“You start to look at the better together story we have within the Infrastructure Solutions Group with our data protection products fully integrated to our PowerProtect portfolio with what we call storage direct,” according to Drew Schulke, vice president of product management at Dell, who spoke with theCUBE. “So from within PowerStore, I, as the storage admin[istrator], can set my backup and my restore policies to a Dell PowerProtect system, which could also be on-prem … on a third site, or it could be in the public cloud.”
Multicloud data mobility advances have been facilitated by connecting PowerStore to Dell APEX Block Storage for Public Cloud. PowerStore Prime offers customers a flexible consumption model where storage can be consumed through an APEX subscription, paying only for what is needed on a monthly basis. The integration of PowerStore with APEX demonstrates how Dell is continuing to evolve its portfolio to meet customer needs across AI and multicloud by providing a universal storage layer, an area of focus during theCUBE’s event on October 28.
“APEX was created to deliver multicloud by design — a seamless, modern cloud and consumption experience in all locations that bring simplicity, agility and control,” said Shannon Champion, vice president of product marketing at Dell, in a previous discussion with theCUBE. “When you look at that from a storage perspective, all of this together really creates that universal storage layer, this common set of software-defined storage services everywhere.”
