Happy Training!
Excellent video. Thanks a lot
Wow. Fantastic video and amazing trainer and puppy! Thanks for the tips ❤️
Any tips on getting the puppy to stop chewing the grooming brush? I can't get it anywhere near mine as he just wants to chew it the whole time (even with his favourite treats on hand)
What brand of peanut butter do you recommend?
I've seen videos where dogs use a scratch pad(?) it was a sandpaper. Do you recommend it?
Thanks a lot for all the advices i am been watching 👀 😊, soon i am going to be a mom of a beautiful Labrador 😍, i can't wait to be with 🐕🐶😇
I highly recommend using a Furminator. And my nail trimming was SO much easier once I started doing them when they were in the back of my Subaru wagon. They were finally at the right height! Had little success when they sat on the ground.
May be odd, but I gave up on the bath and just hop in the shower with my pup. Which is just that much easier (no lifting, no slippery bathtub etc.). I think the fact that I am in there myself also convinces him there is nothing to fear.
One of the best videos I watched about taking care of a puppy! Thank you instructor Shannon! We just adopted a 10 weeks old Golden Retriever and this will definitely help our family to take care of our puppy correctly.
When should I start teaching handling
My girlei loves a Yak stick, but we have to limit her to 10 minutes – she can demolish a whole large one in half an hour! Her teeth are lovely though. She gets her teeth cleaned with a finger pad in the evening before bed when she's calm & a little sleepy, same with examining her feet and nails.
My pup (4 months old) is being boarded for the first time in a few days while my husband and I go out of state and I want them to bathe him. He didn't do too well the first time I gave him a bath even when I took it slow. I ended up in the bathtub with him. Is there any way I can get these little training/prep exercises in the next couple of days to get him a bit more comfortable with grooming? Could I do these grooming exercises a few times a day?
My puppies don’t like water/getting wet so what I started doing to try to get them to at least tolerate it is I’ve wet a towel so that it’s soaked, I lay it down on the tub and I stick one of those lick pads on the tub with some yummy treat spread on it, the first day they walked around all funny with like one paw up in the air trying not to get wet but too interested in the treats I threw in to wana get out Day 2 I did the same thing, day 3 they finally kept all the paws on the towel didn’t seem to mind the wetness, day 4 Same thing expect I fed them their meal in there and after they finished I tossed in some treats and put the yummy licking pad for them they ended up sitting down witch I was impressed, day 5my baby girl jumped in right away by herself, also when I do this I probly do it for like 10-15 minutes, I also don’t want my pups to jump out when they feel they are done so I’ll tell them “OKAY” loud n clear and lift them out the tub dry their paws and done. Gradually I will add more, n more water. To be honest I got this idea from someone’s video to gradually condition their cats to like water and since shibas are known for their kinda cat likeness I assumed why not try this xD so far I feel it’s working 🙂
Sorry I disliked by accident 🙂 by the way these vids are sooooo helpful 🥰😚
That's so Interesting and helpful👍
This is excellent, thank you so much!
My puppy hates bath, especially water on her back. She is not very much food motivated, so I tried similar tricks to make her comfortable in the bath. But if I have to wash her, it is a whole drama and lots of fighting, screaming, climbing on my shoulders
Any tips on crate training a new puppy when your older dog no longer uses one?
I own a 1 and a half year old German Shepherd. It took me an entire year to get her over two bad experiences in the bath as a pup.
TAKE YOUR TIME!!
Pay attention to how your dog is feeling. That's the only thing that matters. Time doesn't matter. Believe me, it's better to have a smelly pup for a few weeks or even months than to have a smelly dog for a year.
I do the peanut butter trick as well. Dogs aren't scared of the water, it hurt their ears as it pours, it's the same thing with rain. Imagine a million super high pitched explosions and that is what they hear. I fill the tub line the wall with peanut butter and use a shower sprayer. Then I do basic drying while they are in the bath so they can shake and shower me! Lol the towel dry is the best part because it's a power dry and then the door opens and they can do zoomies. Then I give them a high value treat, like a bone or their favorite toy.
Sadly, my puppy already hates the bath. His first night we had to bathe him all at once as he was covered in pee. Is there any way to help him like bath time? I'm trying treats and food in the tub now. Thanks!
This is such a great video!
Can I suggest you simply take comments off for the swim videos
Of course you’re very careful & considerate with every single pup you adopt no matter how many
Keep up the great work
Sorry you felt you had to explain yourself
Great tips. Is there a 2nd video on this of the next level once you get them used to these things?
What treat do u use. My dogs won't take. Flavor or texture? Thanks
My Bedlington Whippet cross is not scared of the brush – she thinks it’s a toy and tries to bite it the whole time I’m trying to groom her. I give her treats to distract her, but the brush is way more fun! does anyone have any tips? Thanks!
Great Video ..Thanks
Hi please do a video with questions from videos here’s some of mine
1. Do I put peanut butter or a solid treat in a Kong
2. How do I know a dog thinks one treat is higher value them another
3. Do dogs have naps and if so long or short
4. What is the best chew toys to get for puppy’s
5. What’s the best way to keep a puppy calm when a lot of people they don’t know come to there house
How many treats is a puppy supposed to get a day? Thanks.
Lure the puppy first. Nice approach . Tricky isn't
The pup in the thumbnail looks exactly like my pup, but his ears still haven't popped up. He's definitely a German shepherd though
Wow…very simple and clear. My pup is 10months old so scared of thunder and lightning, she shivers so much that even i hug her it seems she is so afraid.
My puppy just wants to chew mainly on us…i have tried to get her to go to toys cause he teeth hurt…and she keeps trying to bit my face how do you stop that
Hmm, I guess I got lucky with my scottie. I just washed her in my laundry tub and she never objected.
Hey just wondering if you thought about this, I would rather see a voiceover and someone in the background actually working with the dog without talking. Cuz what I have seen in the handling part of the video she was talking to the camera to us and then she put the "yes" marker in with that. Yes I understand that this is just a couple minutes while filming and this is not necessarily how training goes all the time but like I said I think I would like to see a voiceover instead of the handler talking through the whole thing cuz it could be very confusing to the dog to know when you saying "yes" to the dog or "yes' to the camera.
Just something to think about and possibly add into your videos more.
You are beautiful
Any tips for me? I have an 11 week old black lab. I’ve been teaching her sit, lay down, up, her name (Luca) and go to bed. She knows how to do all those things now but my problem is when I’m feeding/training her I say her name to get her attention and she immediately starts to do all those commands without me saying any commands. She will look at me sit then lay down and then get up and go to her pad
THAT BLACK SHEPHERD LOOKS MY GIRL 🥺
Is the anti slip mat in the shower highly reccomended?
Thank you for the great information
