Question: How long on the average is a healthy time to play with your cat, in a day?
I know it can vary but in general. Is there harm in your cat's playtime being too much?
Thanks everyone!!
i got 2 cats. whenever i play with them i gotta do it separately cause the younger one takes over the whole procedure hahahah I adopted Cuca when she was 3 weeks old and she was raised up playing all of the time. Giorgina on the other hand came to me a 3-month-old already scared and less trusting. When Giorgina was starting to feel in her element, then came Cuca: a cuddly baby and, after that, a crazy teen that harvested all the attention. Cuca is like a little sister that renders the older sister jumpy, always on her toes. I am afraid Giorgina is always stressed out. Its like she cant take a break cause Cuca can come near her to play and attack her out of the blue. So anyway… when we're playing, Cuquita takes over and doesnt let Giorgi have a chance. Everytime, I gotta tire Cuca out beforehand (while Giorgi watches from the side thirsty for attention) and only then Giorgi gets her playtime.
jackson is the funniest
Pooped out your cat lol
I play with my cat today for 5 hours
Does anyone play hide and seek and peekaboo with their cat? We had after a session of hunting practice all around the house a fortyfive minutes of hide and seek. Cat hides and I have to search him, that is the game, He does not hide away in hidyholes but rather behind boxes, and I say "wheres Timmy?' And when I see him he looks me in the eyes when I say Ah! there is Timmy! If I don't find him in time he rushes past me to another room. Maybe this game appeals to his being a prey animal. Whatever game we play, we have breaks in which he sits on my shoulder or stands on my head while I walk around the house or take a sip of my coffee. The hide and seek / peekaboo game kind of evolved when I searched him. Graet fun! There are allso ballgames in which we exchange objects, I throw away a wrinkle paperball he shows off his skills and often picks the thing up and drops it next to me after which i do some tricks and toss it away.
I used to own a blue cat – true blue – not Prussian Blue – which isn't blue – but a true blue cat – probably the ONLY one who ever lived. I think it was a male so I named him Arthur. What a sweetie.
What if my cat doesn’t show any interest in catching prey? She doesn’t like wands, air or ground prey. How can I get her to play?
My kitten currently requires at least three 15min-20min play sessions per day so I get to sleep at night. To tire him out him out so he'll rest takes 40min but I don't want him to overexert himself. Thank you once again Jaxon Galaxy ❤
Ivet never been so humbled than watching him blast the moves I genuinely thought cats would like but now know they hate. Ive had cats for 20 years. Still learning!
Thanks!!
Thank you for this
I was doing the boil, but not the simmers. Sigh. It’s so much work! 😅
I just have to think of it like taking the dog for a walk.
My cats chase me if I run 😂 yes it’s ridiculous as it sounds
😂 new to your channel, this was sent to me when looking for help for my cat. This was so funny (but informative) so I thank her for sharing your video with me and Thankyou Jackson for making this video. Love it. totally enjoyed it and you gained a new subscriber. Cant wait for the next video. 🙏
My cat curls up in a ball and goes to sleep when she's done. Then, after a short nap, she eats.
The family that preys together, plays together… and gets sleep
I got a Lamborghini kitty man I get no rest!
So you have a video on how not to play with your kitten? I know someone that uses there hands and sometimes there feet to play and I told them that's not good. So can you help me show them the right way to play with the kitten please and thank. Ps the kitten is now 7 weeks old
Help! My 10 month old cat will full sprint – chasing and jumping for 1-2 minutes then simmer and repeat for hours without tiring. 😭 I've only ever seen her get bored (that was after 3 hours), never tired. I don't know what else to do. She's started biting and pouncing on us cause she so desperately wants to keep playing, but I already commit to 30 minutes a day minimum. She has independent toys she does sometimes use, and puzzle feeders. I feed her after we play. she only weighs 6 pounds but isn't very food or treat motivated (other than catnip).
please help. I'm desperate. ❤
Thank you very much for this technique! I ended my session abruptly last time, and I felt so bad when my cat was so confused. I'm gonna do it right next time!
2:59 my cat jumped on my computer to catch the toy so i guess she enjoys that method lool
Watching as i play with my 2 month old kitten who is pretty much on boil as soon as she opens her eyes. Phew! For such small animals, they can be exhausting! But worth it ❤
First time cat owner here. I have my 2 month old chase a shoe string I pulled out from one of my shoes. I don’t let him play until he brushes up against my leg and falls on his back w his paws in the air.
This seems to have helped keep him from clawing at us and releasing that energy into our feet, or even meowing constantly through the night. I also try to get him to chase it up onto chairs and around boxes.
It’s nice because it’s long enough that I just have to move a little bit and wave my arms in large motions and he will do little 15ft sprints and jump onto and over stuff. Whenever he catches it, it’s so cute to watch his “cat mojo” come out he will carry it in his mouth around the house and play with it (sometimes trying to rip it to shreds.). Then whenever he gets bored he’ll come to my foot and brush against it fall on his back, paws up. He wants another round.
When he’s pooped he’ll drop it and head to the food, simmer down, and sleep again lol.
Jackson’s videos helped me make my cat (Bandit) much happier. My parents didn’t know better and would punish cats by positive punishment, introducing negative stimuli (never anything too cruel), but negative punishment (EG withdrawing a positive stimuli like playtime) is the best way because the cat will just pursue his happiness, rather than avoiding the “bad guy who sometimes shouts or sprays me” lol.
I have a 9 yro who has sooo much energy, I lost my other cat a couple of weeks back so I've played extra bc she gets bored much easier (hopefully I get anothrr adopted cat today or tomorrow!), and she has nooo end! Visiters often think she's like 4yro at most. I had two friends over that both have cats and they both played with her and she still have lots of energy left!
Amazing how much energy an "almost senior" can have!
Also she is a bit smaller in stature and bc high quality food her fur is very shiny and nice, which ofc play into why people think she is so young.
Hey Jackson I went to your website to look for the wand that you used in early videos. I don’t think I see it in your shop. Do you have a wand like that for sale or can you find instructions on making one like that?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great video 😊
😂🎉❤
😂 you are so enjoyable to watch
Our four year old cat never gets tired. I hope these techniques work.
I have an inside & outdoor cat but at night she is not allowed outside. We play every night when she comes in. I used to call her but now she comes in by herself just to play before a snack/ treat and bedtime. Loves playing ❤
My cats are so funny.. At least two of them it is definitely all about the catch and kill. They get the toy and they want to run off with the whole toy. My goodness I really hope that my cats don't stop playing at an early age. My oldest used to play all the time but he stopped a couple years ago. He only likes a laser sometimes. Hes 10.
I really am at my wit's end now. This is going to be a super long plea for help:
I've always tried emulating prey when playing with cats and it worked for all but one. My current cat (who used to be a part-time outdoors cat before he got catnapped and was found again 9 months later in a neighbouring city) just seems to get bored with anything and everything that isn't actual living, breathing, animal-scented prey. He wants to play, I can tell, but no matter what kind of toy or what behavioural pattern I emulate, 90% of the time he doesn't go beyond watching and then maybe slowly strolling over to sniff it if I let him get that close, then walks away; if I start moving again before he reaches the toy, he just metaphorically shrugs his shoulders and walks away anyway, not even a glance back at it.
The thing is that he always loved running. I would play "catch" with him in my mum's garden when he still lived there. He used to hunt and bring us back mice and small birds all the time. Now, because my flat is a little confined, I can at most get him to chase me (with a bit of string for instance) into the next room, but obviously neither of us gets to go full speed like that. He'll go nuts for the laser pen most days, but only maybe twice and only on the couch, which is like 3m² so I can make him run in circles on it, but after a few laps he flops down into a simmer. Somestimes I can entice him into a second round of this and I'll eventually let him catch it and throw a treat (which he loves to run after).
He's turning 11 years soon, so maybe it's in part him getting old and less stable on his feet after years and years of being an actual hunter, and the recognition that a toy is not, in fact, a real bird. He was kind of wild when he first got back indoors. Likely, he did not have a great time those 9 months he was gone for. I'd trained him as a kitten to stop playing with claws the instance a hand got involved, but after being back, for about 2 months, he'd first just continue going ham on toy and me, then eventually give me a couple careless swipes with the murder mittens before aborting play for safety. Now, he seems to recognise that hands are friends again and stops as soon as he realises my hand is getting close.
He uses his exercise wheel for a mild jog every evening/night/whenever he wants to play but I don't have the time, and I give him treats as a reward to at least encourage him exercising. (He's on a strict diet, don't worry, I am not overfeeding him on treats. In fact, I will frequently use dry food as treats and the subtract it from his meal times)
I genuinely don't know what to do. I want to do right by him bc he's my baby, but it's so hit and miss. He clearly wants more, but then doesn't act accordingly either. I've sat in front of him crying praying he tell me what to do more times than I cared to count. His answer is to continue meowing or chirping at me, doing the excited hind-leg stippy-steps, slow-blinking, rubbing against my knee or hand and then walking off eventually. Sometimes, he'll ask me to follow him, super excited, and he'll lead me to one of two spots in the flat only to continue doing the same thing.
He doesn't seem to have the urge to go outside again either. I've tried getting him used to a harness to maybe go on walks, but he would hardly even tolerate me laying it on his back without doing it up. The door to my flat is only interesting when I leave (he'll stare at me as if I am abandoning him forever), when I come home (he'll be behind it to greet me), when neighbours are making noise in the stairwell (he'll get on guard, expecting a threat), or when the door didn't latch correctly and he has the opportunity to wander out (he won't go far, however. Once he waited on my door mat when I went to bring out the garbage).
I try to change it up with toys, diy some, have some that make noises, some that can be filled with catnip, sticks and strings and ribbons and elastics, fuzzy balls, short and long feathers, motorised mice, the lot. I play hide and seek with him sometimes, I make him burrow for treats. He likes to be held only once a day for a minute tops and occasionally goes crazy for a good rub with the brush. I have big windows, but live right by a much-used street, so the amount of birds and such to watch is limited.
Does anybody have any other tips on how to either get him properly into the routine demonstrated in the video or else what other things I can still try? My cat is quite smart, understand the limitations of a screen once he touches it and will stare at his reflection in a mirror without ever actually reacting to it. I want my boy to be happy and healthy 😭
Thanks. Thanks, thanks, thanks. Haven't been able to have a kitty in 20 years. Now retired, I am looking to adopt. Getting up to speed. You, YOU, have added such dimension to the happiness of a cat, and how, as the custodian, I can best help. You're the very best. shantia
My 19 year old Dickens still loved to play!
My kitten won't boil!
I'm afraid of my cat nowadays as he is very demanding and will bit and scratch me if i don't understand what he wants. Very vocalize and sometimes growls. Even when in the room angrily. I played how you said with him around 1 hour plus, after eating he will be more energetic sometimes. He love talking but i just don't understand sometimes what he wants. Now I'm saving to buy a talking button so i can train and understand him better. He is very interactive cat. He won't play with his toys unless i play with him. He is choosy and only love some people but love all children and babies. He doesn't like cats except for the one that talks to him. Like only 1 cat so far…. lol! Maybe he is just growing…. i hope he will stop being aggressive if i don't understand him. But he is a good cat who love purring and laying with me on bed. We sleep together. We use to snuggle whilst sleeping but no more snuggle after i don't understand him……. wish me luck!
Thank you!
gonna try this! got two new kitties and i love them but their zoomies are terrifying lol hopefully this tires them out a bit!
4:37 Mr.Bert??
if i can just translate what he's saying into my language, this sounds like great advice
Like all of Jackson’s video it a big help and brought a big smile to my face (:
I increased interest, and play time, while watching your video! Thank you very much(:
This video was equally informative and entertaining! 😸 😸
