My cats likes dogs but hates other cats! Back when I had a roommate who left his slider open a cat came in and attacked my cat and that’s why she’s like that. She’s only had good or neutral experiences with dogs so she’s not scared of them.
When my parents moved to Western Washington, they lived in a trailer park while their house was being built. At the time, they had a black labrador. When my mom took the dog out for a walk, a beautiful grey cat ran out of the bushes and started rubbing against the dog.
Mom and dad stayed in that trailer park for several months. Whenever they took the dog for a walk, the cat would run out from the bushes and rub against the dog. The cat mostly ignored the humans.
My mom tried to find out who owned the cat. They never found out for sure. They think the owner died.
My mom started to feed the cat. When my son and I visited, she introduced us to the cat (who wasn't very interested) and told us not to tell Dad, but she was taking the cat with her when they moved into their new house. Why was I not surprised? Sure enough, when the time came she scooped the cat up and took them to the new home. That was back in the 90's. The cat had a happy life. The dog, the cat and my mom have all passed away.
i found a stray kitten a couple days ago that LOVES my dog. at first she wouldn't get close to me but would rub all over my dog! i was able to capture her and she's so much better with me now, but she still loves my dog the most! she head butts her and my dog licks the top of her head ❤
I have an old mix chiwawa however have 2 new kittens and she chases the kittens
This video is from three years ago, so you might not see it… but I did the Total Cat Mojo audio book, and it was great. Only thing that could have made it better is if you had narrated it yourself. Thanks for all the work you do for our kitties and their humans! 🙂
This is so encouraging. Thank you.
My dog is super trained she knows every trick in the book shes been around other cats and animals super friendly she just had surgery and can barely move but im scared my kitten hurts her so any advice would be great
I have a small senior dog that has no teeth and a kitten that hiss and trys to attack my dog whats the best way so the kitten feels safe and not attack dog?
This Stray cat figured out my dog door but is An asshole to my dog . The elevation trick may work but I’m not spending $200 on a scratching post for a stray cat that still might be an asshole either way. Looks like it’s gunna stay a hobo cat and it’s got only itself to blame. Tried being patient for about a month … my dog is scared of it… but it just keeps attacking my dog. So I guess it’s back to the streets for ole meowsworth . 😢
My dog is a rescue who was poorly socialized, and she goes nuts when she meets a cat out in the neighborhood – she thinks they're the best play buddies and the cats all think she's super annoying. I can tell she wouldn't hurt one purposefully, but the size and energy difference means it is always a risk, so for now I'm a no-cat household and will train for more positive encounters in the wild 😅
That all said, "Can a cat & a pitbull be friends?"
I'm coming to this after a very bad first impression. Is there hope?
We’ve messed up. We fostered our dog and found out she had a leg injury, for safety we kept them separated. Two years later the dog and cat still live separate in our house. I just want them to coexist. The dog has since had two leg surgeries and is finally doing better and here for good. Is it ever just too late? Unfortunately through human error, they have had a couple of run ins that led to cat being chased and cornered but the dog didn’t actually harm her at all. I feel like we’re so far into this that it feels hopeless.
Hi Jackson! What do I do if I’ve already had my cat and dog living together for 2 years but they don’t get along? My cat always runs and hides and he barks at her
That cat I'm probably getting is a community cat
My cats teased the dog to get her to chase them. It started within weeks of getting the 8 week old puppy. And she's now a 1yr old GSD with high prey drive and reactivity. But it's ALWAYS play. The cats LOVE the dog so much they go for walks through the neighborhood EVERY day, for over a year, with confidence. They'll typically flop over and roll on their backs while on the walks. The dog is also a decoy to deal with other dogs and give the cats a chance to 'hide'. Once the other dog has passed the cats come right back out and continue the walk.
I have 3 cats. One 16 years old that grew up with multiple dogs. The twin 2 year old male orange tabbies are the ones that go for walks with the puppy. And that started within a month. First just around the block. Now up to 4 blocks. Don't want to go any further because there are major roads. That would be too much for the cats. But they love thinking they are king of the hill every morning, with their private security.
I want to know: do you think its better to get a dog thats been around cats and is a bit trained or a puppy that would be around the same size thats teachable (even by the cats). I have 6 cats. Didnt plan on that, was supposed to have 2. I promised my kids a dog when we bought a house.. we now have the house and I want to do this right. Esp by my cats/kittens
At around 2:34 what kind of behavior is that from the dog? That’s what our dog is doing with our cats.
Our dog is a stray / rescue and we’ve had her almost 3 months. She was acting like she wanted to play with the cats at first, would lay down and watch them, but our oldest cat has hit her a few times and now she is way too intense with the cats. She gets right in their faces, has saucer eyes and perked ears, and kind of herds them around and air nips when they swat at her. It is hard to peel her away when she gets like that. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know if she’s jealous or she doesn’t like them now? Sometimes she’s relaxed and has worried eyes but other times – I don’t know. And we do have a baby gate and higher perches for the cats. Our dog used to be relaxed and cuddle with our other cat on our bed (that cat has hit her too) but now she’s just intense and acts like she doesn’t want them around or something. Or she thinks they’re toys..? Or food? Or she’s jealous..?
They did great after a couple months with our previous dog that died in October. So this is hard for us.
My 5 cats LOVED my poodle (he passed away on December), but they dislike my rottweiler and she dislikes them🥴🥺. When I brought my rottie as a puppy one of my cats hit her on the head and there was the downfall🥴. We’re working on it and we are definitely working on introducing a new puppy the correct way🥹
