Oh god we know you don’t like Chris pratt. So he can’t do the stereo typical Mario accent because people like you would freak out. You guys would complain no matter what voice he did you just don’t like him cause his political views.

I think they dialed down Mario's accent because they knew movie would appeal to more people than just Mario fans and non Mario fans might think his voice is annoying or something.
It would make sense to use the actual voice actor because that’s what’s familiar but at the same time maybe it’s doesn’t fit the vibe here. Because game Mario is high pitched & happy giggly this is more of a thriller & I’m not sure that voice would be such a good match for this
Chris Pratt doing the voice of Mario is a crime, and i'm 100% even Chris himself knows it.
He is doing a Brooklyn accent where he was usually from in the cartoons/ original film …I kinda understand why they went down this route as high pitch Italian accent might be goofy during serious moments as the games are not really about dialogue
The Chris prat Mario is so much better than if we had to listen to a og Mario voice for 2 hours.

While they perhaps could have hired an actor everyone was pleased with, yeah probably not. an entire movie with the "it's a me, a Mario" voice would be pretty obnoxious. Most animated movies have pretty normal voices these days.
Mario is Wierd.. everything else is Great
I think most movie goers won't really care that it doesn't sound like the video game. I just imagine a bunch of parents and their kids having a good time with this movie.
Mario’s face looks so. Weird. It’s a lot more squat than it usually is, which I think is the main problem. He also just doesn’t make these types of facial expressions. It’s just off enough to not really feel like Mario to me, especially when paired with Chris Pratt’s voice—who almost sounds like he isn’t really trying?
Jack Black is kinda nailing it though
Its gotta be to mess with people, chris did pretty good in the lego movies plus an hour and a half of the real mario voice would probably get annoying
It’s like Vin Diesel being cast as groot who only says groot, just so they cud market the movie as “starring Vin diesel.” Being able to say Chris Pratt is in it will sell more tickets. That’s the reason
His voice will grow on ppl. It’s just like Ryan Reynolds with pikachu. At first we find it weird, but grew on everyone over time so I have no issue with it. Also gotta disagree about his views being abhorrent, literally nothing abhorrent lol nothing but allegations.

I actually like Chris’s voice. And this was a small sample. It seems to be a Mario origin so he should sound semi normal. Kind of like a Brooklyn accent. And if it was Charles Martinets voice the whole time I’d be annoyed.
