Yeah it was actually good movie and I really enjoyed it and it was way better than the ones that came out before (the dragon god movie and book of vile darkness was somehow better than that 2000 movie) and it felt like a dnd movie and as woke as we all thought was gonna be. If the the director (loved his character on Bones) never said that stupid joke and if the other controversies (too long to list that year) never happened that caused a boycott of WOTC then the movie would probably had more success for a sequel. Though I hear they are having a television series but I am kinda skeptic about it. But it was up against John Wick chapter 4 and the Mario movie. I do give the movie a 8 out of 10. Its good but had flaws.
I liked the movie, generally it was fun.
It was definitely the best D&D movie.
I loved it.
I wasn't hit by anti-d&d movie memes so I entered clean.
Mario movie I had seen memes shitting on it so it was tainted for the first 1/4 of it. But overall I loved it.
Raise awareness about the black pilled doomers sabotaging genuinely good content through cynicism.
really enjoyed the movie
Producer for this movie, Jeremy Latcham was a producer on Guardians of the Galaxy so yes they may be similar. D&D needs this movie to succeed. OGL squabbling is old news and now irrelevant (until WOTC tries something again).
Kender are annoying.
Watched it today and as a big Realms fan (and lore nerd) I did enjoy it. Some of the comedic parts were a little much and I can’t say I loved Michelle Rodriguez’s acting a ton. Great action scenes though. The ending kind of get predictable.
I’m still waiting for a DnD type movie the captures the feel of a proper dungeon crawl.
I dont like most movies, ever, this one was good. that is high praise
i like men who stare at goats, oh brother, and gump. and I like this, and I do not like Pine…. it was good.
yes, as good as conan. which is the last movie i saw (theaters last fall)
yes, some things were not good, but a "good" movie
thank you for your view Gognard
I saw it and i liked it, movie is separate from the ogl/5E problem, which, in case some folks didn't know, "we won" and Hasbro backed down and put in motion things to prevent them from doing it again.
💯
1. The movie is the new players handbook. Instead of handing a new player a 300page book, they watch the movie and they have all the setting information they need for the Sword Coast. This is also Hasbro's effort for blocking Tal'Dorei from being the DEFAULT world (as it was starting to become – no one ASKS to play in Faerun but I do get players asking to play in the world of Critical Roll).
2. This is the Proof of concept. Much like Iron Man 1, it proves that when we try and spend some money, we CAN make good Comic Book, and now, a good D&D movie… We CAN have nice things when we don't Half-ass things like we have been doing.
I watched it the other day and I had a lot of fun. I don't think the studio deserves to bomb because of the OGL stuff. Sad to see people expecting it to be mankind's next masterpiece. I think it's a worthy watch for any D&D fan
Remember WOTC tried to set themselves up as police over all 3rd party content, & attempted to claim the right to publish all 3rd party content for themselves. That kind of egregious attack demonstrates the worthless character of the dept heads who directed these OGLs to be written. That type of behavior needs to be punished. Needs to be extinguished. Needs to be much more costly for WOTC than it has been. It means that they deserve to be bankrupted. Their apologies for this act include the lie that they composed this attack, by accident. That it was never their intent to do, what they composed a legal document to specifically to do.
Why support a corporation that does nothing for the community, which the community cannot do for itself? That insults the community? Treats us like ignorant children? Their condescending arrogance deserves contempt, from anyone who doesn't enjoy being condescended to. Have some self respect, & don't encourage ppl to eat shit shoveled out to us, by WOTC. They openly display their contempt for the community with their attacks & condescension. Have some modicum of self respect and don't serve corpos who call us idiots.
Wrath of the Dragon God for its old standars is one of the best true D&D movies
I'll download it.
I am nor giving them my money.
If it is more like D&D than Hawk the Slayer, I'm in!
punishing hasbro is not worth fireballing our chances to get D7D movies in the future that we have been asking for years for.
Yeah, I guess I'm pro-flop or whatever. I don't hate the film by itself, granted the bar has never been high for any D&D movie. At least you've assured me that it's maybe worth a look over, but I can't see myself tossing this cash. Maybe some download. As is, the heavy reliance on MCU style humor is a slight deterrent to me.
It really was a buzzkill that the directors intentionally emasculated the male characters and claimed it wasn't woke. I might see it for free later on.
Great review. I have heard a lot of very good things about the movie. My wife and I are definitely going to see it. As far as the whole OGL fiasco goes I look at it like this. I was also very angry at WoTC for what they tried to pull. However the people that wrote/produced the movie are very good people and I am not going to punish them for what WoTC did. I also really like Chris Pine and the other actors and actresses. I am not going to punish them either. The only boycotting that I may do will be not buying their actual roleplaying products. But we shall see. It looks like WoTC is trying to make amends. If they keep doing the right thing I will forgive them.
I'm fairly sure the production value is decent as Hasbro put a lot of money into the movie. Doesn't change the fact, the writers "intentionally emasculated the leading men" in this movie. At least according to interviews. So I won't watch it. I don't consume products of people who hate my genetics. I just don't. Another downer for me is the general tone of the trailers. The movie was promoted to have way to much lazy slapstick'ish humor for my personal taste.
Again, I do believe the CGI people did a decent job on the movie. But that alone isn't enough to make me go to the theatre.
i am not part of the punish hasbro group, however i thought the movie looked pretty cheesy from the trailer. I'm on the fence yet if I will give it a shot.
Are the characters harper's in this movie
Ok, how much did Hasbro pay you to say all these good things?
Jk, I'm happy to know they haven't done another mess. Fourth time's the charm it seems 😅
I don't want to see a Drizzt movie, it was bad enough when the books came out, every single dark elf PC was good. I'd like to Dark Elves shown to be crazy evil (as they are) and maybe years down the road you can point out there was ONE guy who managed to break that trend. But he's rarer their your AD&D 9 int fighter rolling for Psionics.
I liked it too. It was well written and it didn't overreach.
If this movie is as good as all the initial reviews say it is, and it flops because of basement dweller babies boycotting, then it could be decades before we see another good D&D-type movie…Support Medieval Fantasy SyFi! GO SEE THIS MOVIE
If U R naive or just don't give a damn, then support WOTC & watch this movie. They R still a threat to 3rd party publishers. We're supposed to believe an apology coming from a corp that tried to destroy every 3rd party publisher, because they say they R sorry & didn't mean it? Buy a bridge to candy land if U buy that shyte.
Just boycott the movie. Death to WOTC!
I wasn't interested in seeing this, but your review has changed that… I'll try to see it at some point (Jesus Revolution is my first priority for in-the-theater, but this is now a strong second). I haven't actually seen a lot of fantasy movies; I've never seen the Schwarzenegger Conan movies or the Sword and the Sorceror. If I had a favorite, it would probably be the Bakshi Lord of the Rings.
I saw it today too! Loved it! Also that was the most lawful good paladins EVER😂
So the demasculating of all the male characters is okay? The constant cheap jokes are way too corny for my enjoyment just in the trailer alone. Other than cgi it’s got nothing for me
So, how noticeable/offensive was the 'emasculated male character' aspect?
Also, I take it that whatever happens to the OG party in the arena was respectfully handled – yes? There were rumors they might have ended as a TPK.
