I think your just coping with how things in the animation and game industry is go they are laying off alot of artist. At least with big companies they will use ai more with many 2 or 3 arttist on a team.
one problem is there are things which no human artist is remotely capable of that AI can do quite well, so while I agree that an AI cannot make "human made art" it seems like the opposite is also true. for example there are plenty of games using copy/pasted assets or duplicate icons, even from larger studios. it's often true that even with a large art team it's simply not possible for human artists to keep pace with ambitious game designs, and some type of procedural generation is often needed, but historically that doesn't work very well for things like icons. IMO it's much better to hire an artist that knows how to use AI that can hear a request for thousands of images and think it's viable rather than expecting to spend an entire day on each image and complain about the unreasonable workload. also as a player I'm sick of seeing the same asset pack icons used across hundreds of games and I'm tired of games being bottlenecked waiting on art or using recolored assets and other workarounds. I think that art in games is not even always 'art' on its own but serves a function to convey some information, so having duplicates everywhere is convoluted and the raw utility of an infinite icon generator is immeasurable, especially with custom training involved.
I have a pet project that can derive millions of passive skills from a few thousand core stats and distribute them across infinite skill trees, but where is the artist that could handle rendering all of them? Even with AI it's nearly impossible, so there is that.
This is why we need better public arts education.
that was awesome thank you😄
seriously, why do we need AI art? like not a single person asked for it
I think "ai" "art" will only replace the clip art and other graphics people get because they need something but don't really care. Like when a solo accounting practice needs a logo, when a plumber wants a mascot on their van, that kind of stuff. That sucks for anyone who makes a living that way, but one less soul crushing job is perhaps better in the big picture anyway.
the thing is, I'm not an art person, but AI is super off-putting, I block accounts that post AI art
History simply repeating itself. Once carpet was made by hand, and it's nothing wrong in making it by hand. It's cool it's made by human, there is soul in man made thing that cost same as a house. But what I really can afford and really want to pay for is machined carpet.
Same thing wit art. Haman made art is cool, but the market for it will shrink to almost non existing. Like, as a game developer company i'd prefer automate and make content production as fast and as cheap as possible. I can't afford waiting a whole working day for single iteration of a single character concept, when I can have dozens per minute.
ai is just gonna take its own niche as a tool
AI is just plagiarism, nothing more and nothing less. The only long-term innovation that will come out of it is additional checks on artworks to ensure someone created them honestly.
theres a small amount of artists that are trully unique and do not rely on existing characters/properties/tropes
also context and storyboarding is uniquly human, for now
probably 90% of everything else is being replaced with facebook level of ai slop
Well, primitive guns were worse then bows and primitive cars were worse and more expensive then horses as primitive ais of today are worse (in general( then human artists
And yet i dont see bowmen in military or horses on the roads or fields
AI images are just spam. When someone can generate 1000 images with the push of a button that means none of the images contains any noteworthy value, intent or information. And I don't look at spam.
I noticed that the facade of Ai imaes has faded a bit, I keep stumbling upon many Ai DA accounts with tons of images, that have little to no engagement (as opposed to a lot of attention when it first appeared). It's kind of funny, since I will click on a random image, only to find out how hilariously fucked up it looks, I thought Ai images would look better, but somehow it seems to be getting worse. Meanwhile, a lot of the artist that I follow seem to be getting steady engamement with their work, which is nice.
Ai will be forgoten only used by scammers in facebook farming engagement from old people too old to understand what it trully is
Doesnt a human give input to the ai and humans just combine ideas too? Also im still worried about ai assisted art. where a human can correct mistakes and do things faster so big companies have less incentive to hire as many people
I'm with you on this, but consumers don't care who made it they just want have it, if possible as fast and cheap as possible. Very few people actually worry about where it comes from.
And even then, corporate loves all of the above even more.
For now people choose human art over ai's, cause the latter still sucks. Let's hope it stays that way.
i remember a meme once referencing past hopes of scifi that we would have robots do all the hard work so that humans can peruse careers in art and science, but instead we live in a weird timeline where humans are stuck doing all the hard work while corporations try to create machines that will do all the art and science
ive been saying this since the begining of this issue Ai art only make real human art more valuable ai art it is very limited
This sentiment definitely has merit and to me is a reason why human art will always have an important and valued place in society, however, as generations just get better people are going to like, say, creating a movie or a piece of pornography or something that conforms to their exact interest with minimal effort. You will also probably see it used more in commercial things because who gets to make commercials and cheap wall art and shit like that has never been a meritocracy and these people are always looking to cut corners as long as people are willing to settle, and I don't think we are far from that point. Using ai generation as part of a work flow to create art will happen more, but doesn't count as "ai art" in my mind, as it is just one part of an entire creative process for an artist vision. I think that this is where the most interesting art will emerge from the advent of this ai stuff because of creative people using it in creative ways, but yeah, I think you still have to worry about commercial schlock. But then again, didn't artist already have to worry about this before all this generative art?
The best take I heard on the matter came from tumblr of all places
"why would I want to read something that a person didn't bother to write?
Oh your fanfic is written by AI let me block you real quick here"
ive applied for countless companies now asking if ive experienced with ai generation , my partner is working 3 jobs , that includes ai in their pipeline – art on social media now is a struggle on you character as an artist so your audience can find you, corporations and companies hate that they need to pay artists. you cant fight back with the slop , but you can build your own identity as an individual.
I see you point but unfortunately, that is not how capitalism operates. When there's profit companies will do the most profitable. Gaming companies, movie companies, and all the others reliant on the creative industry will replace artists if they can.
It's about marketing and advertising. Take the amount of time it takes to create an original work then multiply it by a needed hourly rate of an independent contractor or payroll cost of an employee.
The other angle comes from the artisans themselves. If you can sell X handcrafted units a month for $Y each. Or you can do clean-up work on 4X AI generated pieces for $Y each. You could even underbid people because you move so much volume.
We're talking about art as commerce… artisan work.
Broadly agree. For me it's as simple as comparing the feeling of someone saying to me, "I wrote a love song for you" vs. "I prompted an AI to write a love song for you" The first one makes me feel everything, the second makes me feel absolutely fucking nothing at all. It means something to me more than the sum of its appearances because somebody meant something by it, that someone had to say something and I'm here to hear it, completing a social circuit. There's no comparison, for the same reason AI girlfriends will never replace real ones, even if you ignore the physical aspect of intimacy. If you all want or care to do is ~consume content~, AI "art" is great news for you. If you want to connect with your humanity and that of others, all those pixels will turn to ash in your mouth.
Also, it's…interesting that the negative reactions to videos like this seem to drip with vitriol for artists, predicting their obsolescence with a sort of glee. What the hell is that about? I can't be sure but it looks a bit like the perverse joy of seeing someone you envy suffer hardship.
This is true for enthusiast media. But AI WILL and HAS put lower level designers and illustrators out of a job. Now we have to be so above and beyond to stand out. Going independent/freelance is our only option now.
Right, the same for the clothing you’re wearing that is handmade by a human. Anti food you eat every day that is completely handmade. And all the tools you use for your art that are all handmade by you. And vehicle you use for transportation that is not automated but a real person bringing you from a to B. And the news you get hand selected every day, or when you order something and a person personally processes, your order.
Everything so much better …
This is cope, the end result is always going to be illustration cease to be art, and everyone that makes illustration one way or another will lose eventually. People who make transformative art from illustrations will maybe win until they are replaced too.
I am a programmer and my focus was on ML while in university. (recent grad but disabled vet so no need to work)
When I saw that chatgpt does better boilerplate code than me, faster and less errors, i had to learn to shift my view. It isn't about being a violenist anymore but about being a conductor and composer. ML is good at doing what has been done already but breaks down at the edges. ML has let me get porjects done that would have taken me months, if ever, in a weekend with a bunch of coffee. So what I am saying is use it to be more productive and get the things done that you would never try becaues it would normally be too hard.
Chess is a solved game but i still play it even though an app on my phone could beat me all day. If you like doing art, then do it for art sake. but if you want to commericalize it either do somehting completely oringinal or use the tools in front of you.
There is no reason to cry about the rain just carry an umbrella.
I like art because it looks cool or interesting, period. Almost all AI art has that shiny 3d 2d look to them having a more distinct style will help for now. DominikAviver is an AI artist that generated a unique blend of Victorian surrealism his post called "Visiting God" you can see a plane flying towards the moon you can tell it's destined to evolve into rocket as it leaves humanity behind. You can see that humanity is facing away from this new technology satisfied with religion (our old traditional ways) as stand next to their trusty wagon a human operated tool. Now the faces are mangled the steampunk wagon is nonsensical with double wheels and the plane is half melted, but I really like the image none the less.
Maybe when we can't believe what's on a screen anymore we will find value in our local communities
I agree. Human made art is cool. But if they let driverless cars in the streets, then they can surely replace artists with AI. As long as it sells, people won't care if it's AI or human.
im here for my daily dose of copium
Why we consume art? is it really because it was made by a human or is it because the art connects with us?
I agree that some people truly care about where does the media come from but i don't think is the majority, and so… If AI can make good "art" (call it fake art) that can make people feel something then it will impact the market and the livelihoods of artist because they will not care where does it come from nor will the companies or studios that produce art for consumption (which is basically all the media we consume)
Artist cope. Theres metric tons of artistic gruntwork that AI can replace cheaply and efficiently. I'm afraid it's uber driving coal mines for all of you.
fax
i feel like you could've coped for at least 5 more minutes
This is pure projection, and this line of thinking has proven false over and over again. People largely want works of good visual quality for an affordable price, they don't really care about how much passion the artist put into it. Hence portrait artists lost to photography, the scenic theater lost to the movie theather, orchestras lost to musical bands using amplifiers, traditional art lost to digital art, 2d animated movies lost to 3d animated movies while FBF animation only survived in anime and some western shows because 3d or tween don't really replicate the look yet – not because people demand that every frame is hand-drawn.
And to say people don't want to consume something that's been generated by a computer: Minecraft has people sinking hundreds to thousands of hours exploring worlds generated by a computer
It’s early days though, the line is only going to get more blurry, not less. Right now ai can replicate the techniques and structure of art but soon enough they may replicate the inner motives, experience, and expression. There is nothing magical about humans after all we are just brains.
Is it bad, is it good? Does it count as art? Idk, I understand why people react violently against it but there is no stopping it in any event. And personally I am just curious to see what comes of it all.
i find A.I. art as a tool for making thumbnail-sketches. that's always been the hardest for me from my experience, even though i don't have aphantasia. plus, anyone who KNOWS basic art can see AI-generated errors when it comes to drawing hands (i think it comes with hours of creating and consuming high-art media from comic books, CGI/live-action films, video games, etc.). i've seen that lately in videos where the subject matter's hands are… just wrong… but they get the idea across depending on the context of the video essay/discussion.
your survival doesn't depend on whether there are people who still care about art. AI only has to make that portion of people shrink in order to kill us.
AI is feeding on its own poop. It's training itself on internet "art" content that was generated by other AIs.
my mum said basically this the other day. she said that after ai art goes insane, people are going to realize the importance of real art and push back. she thinks that art will flourish even more than it ever has, and possibly bring back other forms of art/creative work that we've forgotten about.
I in general agree, but not all artists are safe: voice artists, scrapbook motive developers etc. might not be ok.
You are absolutely right Scott 👍👍👍💕💕💕
Keep coping broski. Im on the AI train and its heading straight for success station! You art cucks are screwed! Im making stuff better than your beta pencil scribbles can make and I can do it in 30mins it would take you 30 days lmao. keep slurping up the copium. Machine beats flesh.
