Carbitex, makers of carbon fiber materials for footwear, raises $3.3M – GeekWire

Carbitex, a Kennewick, Wash.-based maker of flexible carbon fiber composites for footwear and luggage, raised $3.3 million in a recent funding found.

Longtime investor Michael Marks, founding parter at San Francisco-based Celestea Capital and Carbitex’s executive chairman, led the latest round. Minneapolis-based New Bound and other previous individual investors also participated.

The company, founded in 2012, has raised $28 million to date.

Carbitex, often referred to as an ingredient brand, sells its materials to brand partners that integrate those materials into goods, including footwear for running, cycling, soccer, watersports, snowboarding, and golf. Flexible carbon is tuned for stiffness, response, size and shape depending on shoe model, use case and more.

Carbitex partners with shoe brands including Altra, Speedland, Lake, Scott, PAYNTR Golf, and FootJoy, as well as bag and accessory brands Tumi, Pitaka, and Porsche Design.

The company went through a two-year restructuring effort that included founder Junus Khan returning to lead Carbitex as president. New executive hires included Patrick Sinner as vice president of brand product development; Filippo Sartor, vice president of global sales; and Sam Gardner, vice president of engineering and operations.

Carbitex is forecasting 5X revenue growth for 2025 over 2024, from both new and existing customers.

The company employs 14 people.
