even if EGS became a viable alternative to steam i still wouldnt use it because i have all i want and/or need on steam including 200 games , couldnt care less about the ˝MoNoPoLy˝ that steam has because it has gotten there for a reason , and no amount of free games will win me over cause im not that shallow

I always look to steam first when it comes to pc game purchases. It’s like a jerk reaction. I haven’t purchased a single game on EGS. Just some battle passes. All the games I have there were free.
Its an absolute failure propped up by Unreal and Fortnite money. They never wanted to compete with Valve, they wanted to take over their place in the market.

I quite like Epic – I don't care a jot about achievements, and the UI starts up nice and fast. Got good deals on Cyberpunk and Fifa 23 (once you log into EA once that's it forever so no biggy there). And my kid uses my account to play a bit of Fortnite and Fall Guys. I use it about as much as Steam honestly. I know it's fashionable to whine about Epic but no hate here. Does the job i ask it to
Imagine if epic worked on a lightweight launcher with actually good features that steam doesn't have, we still don't have good competition
Dont spend any money in the Epic Games Store and be happy with your weekly free games. Thats it. When the store gets closed, dont worry, be happy.
Can I just ask, why’s the difference between Epic and Steam? It’s not like we have to choose between the two on pc. Right? If so, how does time exclusivity matter? This is not a troll question. At all. I’m just confused. It seems like we’re making the equivalent of the console wars but with platforms.

Why can't I just plug in my external HD on epic and it can recognize the game dl? I rather pay double on steam.
They give free games every week, no complaint for that. I have played many of the free games from Epic without any issue.
What confuses me is that huge gacha games, such as Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves, skip Steam but are released on EGS.

the other day i was going to buy a game, the payment methods available, none are good for me
i really wanted to buy rdr2, but steam payment methods are easier, and there is support, something that on epic does not exist, no forum, nothing, problems to log in on the game, no help
EGS would do anything but make their store good. It makes me wonder, with all the money and resources, is it really that difficult to make a good launcher??
There's been a few times a game was an eggs exclusive for 12 months or they had a free game but I still flat out refused to download the eggs launcher and I won create an eggs account. I don't care if I'm losing out. I already have too many launchers / store apps with steam , EA launcher and uplay. I don't need another damn launcher.

The EGS is just that creepy dude at the bar trying to buy people free drinks only to F you later. As im sure if they had market dominance like Valve they'd totally do things like Proton and the Steam Deck and wont just slowly stop giving away free games and increase game prices.
Thanks to Epic free games, it kept the launcher on my pc for a long time and now I'm taking advantage from the mega sale
I remember when people used to hate STEAM back in 2004! I only got it back then because my ATI 9600XT came with a free Half Life 2 voucher. As a matter of fact that was the only game I had till maybe 2012. I was more into physical media and nasty DRM. 😅

Rather I purchased on Steam when I got my PC because Steam actaully keeps your game installed even if you reinstall windows (separate disk) on epic it gives error that game is not even installed LIKE WTF?
Steam gives trading cards badges achievements steam cloud saves steam discussions in depth reviews and reviews of curators and overall games on steam are cheaper on sale in my region compared to epic and epic launcher is buggy as hell
I only use EGS just for the free games and I wouldn't pay for anything for EGS.
It's decent. I bought some few games when those games are priced lower than its Steam counterpart.

EGS lacks about 80% of what steam has. It is not a finished product by any means.
I don't think EGS is that bad at all. Till last year their Mega Sale was awesome. I bought RDR2, GTA V and Days Gone for very cheap prices compared to the price they go on steam on sale. I feel EGS launcher is easy to navigate than steam. But, ofcourse yeah steam has many features which are missing in EGS like user reviews community blog but i don't care about these things as long as i get games on sale cheap compared to other platforms.

They chose the wrong strategy they could have invested into improving their store so they could offer a better or equal service to Steam so people would want to actually use their store, yet they chose to spend that money buying exclusives to force people to use their store and by doing that they earned the bad will of the PC community, yeah not surprised that they didn't managed to make the dent they wanted on the PC market.
UI SUCKS on EPIC, they should put some animations and make the the website more compact. The library also needs improvements like details, community tab and better review Ui's and logo shape designs.
Best part? Im old enought to remember what a scummy guy is Sweeney. There was interview with him when Gears of War 2 was relased and jurno ask him about PC port. He said with straitgh face that there so no market on PC and they dont make enough money to make a PC port. And like, dude – you company only exist because you was able to create Unreal Engine on PC. No console back in the day was able to carry this engine. And now this same dude is claiming that he is a savior of PC gaming. What a tool!
Sure epic gave some free games away but that was ruined by exclusives people were only ever going to buy on steam. Personally I think EGS is a garbage launcher. You can't even turn off the overlay.
