What if you are only one Human in the household? So there is not a person to each both playing wise and comfort/safety and where to sleep?
We just brought home a new kitten today. There is a lot of hissing in our house and seeing our resident at upset is so painful for me… but I'm hopeful we can make it.
Really trying to be patient here. We're at 2 months and 1 week with our two new kittens, and our resident 10-year-old cat, who lived with another cat for the first 5 years of her life, is having NONE of it. We have done a VERY slow introduction: kittens in their own home base, cat/kittens eating on either side of the door, site swaps, visual contact through a screen or crate, and lastly supervised short 10-15 minute visits with us attempting to entertain the kittens and ply the resident cat with treats (she won't play in the presence of the kittens). Our resident cat growls and hisses when seeing them from a distance, and swips at the kittens if one of them gets anywhere close. I don't know how much slower we could have taken this. The kittens spend most of their time downstairs, and the resident cat gets upstairs, with daily site swaps and supervised visits, and they're still eating on opposite sides of the doors, with food or treats only given to the resident cat when the kittens are near. We're at our wit's end and don't know what else to try. Please help!
I have the opposite dynamic going on right now 😢 My one year old resident cat is very interested in and gentle toward the new fourth month old kitten, but the kitten is always hissing and growling at her 😢
What to do if the older cat goes on a hunger strike and stress vomits? Vet has checked her out and seems to be no medical reason, just stress.
Watching this while on day 2 of introducing our new kitten to our 9yo and 6yo female cats 🫠 the guilt part is so real. I never knew about the food thing so will definitely have to try that. Our 6yo doesn't hiss at the kitten unless she gets super close and is very curious, but our 9yo hisses and growls anytime they interact under the door. I'm hoping in a couple days we can open doors and see how they all interact then
I have a six year old cat, Gus, and he’s the sweetest boy ever. Adopting a kitten in a few weeks when he is old enough to leave his mother. I’m worried my big boy will become unhappy when little brother arrives. Thank you for this video so I can get it right from the beginning.
Iam so sad!!!!! My 10 year cat max he didn't like my new kitten. A beautiful 6 month baby girl..
My cat didn't slepp with me bites me screams… 2 last days eat very few.. and sleeps a lot..

Any thoughts what i can do;;
Greetings from greece..
It’s weird seeing bro with a normal beard
Yup, 4 days is too early. I had a stray kitten (Socrates) show up at our porch in the country (dumped) and had to keep him along with my existing Siberian (Boots) one year old. Siberians are slow to mature, so I have essentially two kittens, but one is twice the other’s size. I have to supervise the rough housing because Boots loves to bite! We never leave them alone together when we go out. It’s been 2 weeks now, and they seem to get along ok. But Boots doesn’t like it when Socks wants to cuddle. Socks has imprinted on Boots. I feel so sad for Socks, so I give him extra cuddles. I also made a point of playing with Boots more because he still wants to play and Socks can be a trigger.
I hope all of this advice is also good for a bit older cats. I have a 3 yr old rescue cat, Otilia, who has had the run of the house and is used to being the "only". My daughter and her senior cat (16 yrs old), Asia, moved in with us about 1 1/2 weeks ago on a temporary basis (not sure how long they will co-habitat with us). We've set up base camps for both cats, have been location swapping & a bit of scent swapping. We've also been feeding them on either side of a gate barrier (with a blanket covering so there is no visual contact). There has been some accidental visual contact which promotes occasional hissing from one or both cats, but no lunging, etc. I'm okay to take things at the cats' comfort levels as my main concern/objective is for the cats' welfare so I want to make sure we are on the right track. 🙂
I have 2 cats, the oldest and the first one is the ginger Jones, he's the loveliest boy ever, when Jonesy was year old we got a black female cat Freya. Jonesy accepted Freya immediately because he's just like that…Jones is now 2 and Freya 1 year old…BUT a few days ago I found a kitten about 3-4 months old and brought him home. Jonesy being the good boy he is accepted him immediately but Freya, omg I did not expect that reaction from her. She's constantly hissing at him, she went on a hunger strike and yesterday she puked for the first time in her life!!! She's pissed at everyone in the house. Jonesy would like to play with the kitten and he does but very little cause he's afraid of Freya and everytime he touches the kitten he goes to Freya to "apologize" I think or myb to ask for her approval. We're trying to let Freya know that she's still our loved little girl but she just won't accept him. And our new kitten is the loveliest boy ever, he's literally Jones n.2 .
I really hope my lil girl will accept him.
Help please, I have a 3 year old kiddish cat. She doesn't like any cat or animal. She gets so scared she will guess and scratch me and act like she's lost her mind and doesn't know me. It took forever for her to let me rub her tummy. Like 3rd year. I just brought home a 8 week old kitten because I love her so much she's an indoor cat only and I didn't want her to be alone. She saw the kitten lost her mind hissed tried to scratch me like I'm a stranger. She never does this unless she smells another cat come to her catio or below the front door. I mean it when I say she lost her mind. She has always been scared of everything. She will not eat anything but the cat food I started her on. Not treats or adult food, she just won't eat fresh fish, chicken ECT. I've put the kitten in my room but she sleeps with me. I've closed the bedroom door and I never keep her locked out. After she saw the kitten she went out on the catio. I went to calm her down . She still acts like she doesn't know me. Hisses tried to get me or claw me. Not chasing or anything. Since she(Domino) is so scared how can I resolve this? Thank you for your time. I can record videos as it progresses.
Is it harder if they are both male ? Do you have a special video for that? Or pretty much the same?
What if I’m single and don’t have another person to play with my other cat?
My 7 month old rushed my 2 month old 😢. I want to get a screen for the door she's in so he can get used to her with out reaching her. Will that help?
My bf just brought home a new kitten today and I've been worried all day at work about if he'll get along with our 14-year-old girl. I just need to calm down. Everything will be okay!
7:12 I felt that 😭 day 2 and things are a little rocky
Hey Jackson. I'm new to your channel. Thank you so much for the amazing job you've done for all the cat lovers. I have a 9-year-old cat, and I realized how little I know about her. It´s scary. I'm finally having my cat education with you and I have to introduce a new baby cat to my oldest one. And, for that reason, I'm interested in buying your books on the matter, but I'm having some trouble choosing — which one do you recommend for starting? In which one do you go deeper in introductions subject? Once again, thanks and all the best to you.
Question.
You said no food left you. Only meals and only in the presence of each other. But kittens are supposed to have access to dry food all the time right? I am confused.
Did you keep the separated and do this occasionally or were they always out when you were out? I’m just trying to figure out the best way to go about it. I’m on day two and started eat play love but after a little bit I separated them and am spending time with my older cat while the baby is in her base camp. I keep them separated when I leave.
Just want to say that my cat is SO particular and I really was expecting this to go fucking terribly with a new kitten… but it was worth a shot because I just feel like she really needs a buddy.
Followed everything this video and his other videos on cat intros say… yes, VERY exhausting not going to lie. But my god was it worth it. The cats get along SO well, they’re getting close at a faster pace I feel like than my past cats as a kid when my parents “just let them work it out”… my house feels so peaceful and tame with a new kitten and resident cat, because of these instructions. Truly – this shit works. Worth it for the long run if your happiness and your kitties happiness 🙂
Just a friendly reminder to people: please turn your phone horizontally to film in “Landscape Mode” it’s a format thing. This way we can all enjoy the full screen. (For the love of god, please😂)
I want to adopt this kitten from straight up abusive household but really scared of both extra expenses, extra responsibility and the drama of introducing a kitten to a ten year old tomcat. Even though i think some company would benefit my old boy, i spend most of the day on job and come back home exhausted. I don't know.
Resident cat is attacking kitten any chance it gets except during feedings. During feedings they can be 3 inches apart and there won’t be any hissing, growling, swatting or any other aggressive behavior. Should I go back to step 1 and stop feeding them together even though that’s the only time the new kitten is not being attacked?
We had created a base camp for our kitten, but introduced them after a few days, before watching the other video with steps to take before they make contact.
Our resident cat is 1yo/m and the kitten is 3mo/f. Our resident cat was hissing at first, but then He was playing with the kitten’s paws as she poked from under the door, even rolling onto his back while doing so. He seems very curious and interested, and was trying to play with her when they met, albeit a bit rough.
We’ve noticed through this whole process that our cat has been having nothing but diarrhea, and eating much less, after finally getting him to eat at all. Vet said no parasites and gave us some medicine for him. He seems very fixated on the kitten, though she’s doing fine. We’re just very concerned about our boy developing health issues because of this, as he is truly our priority. He just doesn’t seem the same and it is very stressful, but we’re trying to get through this.
Wow, this video just helped me let go of so much guilt and anxiety surrounding my cats' introduction. I'm introducing a 1 year old cat to my two 5 year old sister cats, and we're a week and a half into the process, at the Eat Play Love stage. They tolerate each other well through the glass door, and there haven't been any fights, but the established cats do hiss and growl a lot (now at each other, too – that's new). But we'll keep working on it, I'm optimistic again! I wasn't sure how normal the hissing is at this point, and if I made a terrible mistake haha.
In my house….my family( we r cat people). We refer to u as THE CAT GOD!
Appreciate the hungarian jackson! I'm an Australian Hungarian living in Japan. My fur baby of 16 years moved with me to japan….obviously! baby is 16….she is my life….but I know …..the sad day is going to come one day. Want to introduce a new baby to my queen. But I want to do it with the queen having a new family member n being ok with it. Have had cats since the day I was born, n im in my early 40's. This video really helped me…..arigato….thank u. Hopefully, the babies get along 😮
So I’m watching these videos but you don’t have any on specifically introducing non litter mate kittens. I’m having issues with this currently
im actually adopting a new kitten tomorrow, so im taking a lot of notes lol
Hello Jackson! I am also Hungarian and it makes me so happy to know my fav cat person in the world is too! I have been watching your videos for years before even getting a cat, and got one a few months ago! We also recently adopted a kitten and I am watching this right now to introduce them soon. Thank you for all that you do, you’re amazing!
Out of curiosity…..if one of the cats doesn’t like playing with toys, what would be a good way to redirect him?
You’re the cat Buddha Jackson
My resident kitten (almost 6 months) seems very sad about the new kitten (almost 3 months). No idea what to do…
At first, the elder one was being quite friendly and trying to sniff her but the new one kept hissing and hissing which led to the elder one thinking "okay, she just wants to be enemies then" and started attacking her. I don't know what to do, this is such an opposite case and I find no guide/help regarding this…
This worked perfectly, it took two weeks now they are playing together, thanks 👍
I have my resident cat who’s 3, I’ve have now had my adopted kitten for 3 months. My resident cat loathes this kitten. I did take the introduction slow, but I work 16 hours a day and it’s just me.
The kitten, who’s now a lot bigger, will pounce on the resident cat, who does a lot of what Charlie does.. growling, hissing, and yelling. The kitten now stalks the resident cat, and will pounce on her biting her, leading to a fight. Tonight was the last straw when he had her cornered in the litter box.
I have food bowls out in different rooms, a large cat tower, lots of toys, put on cat tv for them when I leave…. And aside from a cat sitter coming in which is $$, what else can I do? Will the eat play love method work when I’m gone so much? Should I lock them in separate rooms when I’m not home?
Thank you Jackson. You are a Star 😊
My cat is doing the exact same thing to a kitten I just got. Thanks this video is going to help out a lot!
Kitten has his own room so he has a safe space
Hi I have a new kitten I already have 3 cats my 9 year old said hello and licked him the 15 year old met noses together. My 1 year old trying and kitten trying to be friends will try food thing so my 1 Yr old jumps in fun but little one thinks he's a giant
My cats have been together for months now and one of them won’t let the others get pets from me? He sheep herds them away and bullies them. He will chase them away and Vite at them and the others desperately just want to come by me. What should I do?
I have it the
Opposite way. The kitten Houdini got apprehensive about Boo. I fed them and kept the kitten in a small room with the door closed and tried to go back and forth between them to let them know I love both of them. After a day of that I brought the kitten out and put him on the couch. The kitten was in aggressive pose ears completely back and hissing. Boo just sat on the floor being full grown and at least 4x the size of the kitten. He was cool as a cucumber about it. After I saw the kitten’s reaction, I put him back in the small room. Maybe it was too fast. I worry cause Boo is a great hunter and so much bigger. But, I think they know you can’t hunt family members. They seem to even get that with fish so I just want the kitten to be safe. Boo has brought home baby bunnies about the size of the kitten. He’s a mostly outdoor cat, he came with my house when I bought it!
I don’t want to be co-dependent with my cat. I really love him and don’t want to hurt his feelings but, I unintentionally ended up with a kitten so, he’s going to have to deal with it!
And btw the hats in a standoff with guns made me laugh hard lol!
How do you introduce 1 new cat to 3 resident cats?
Could I please have help with my FM 10yr old Mitzee please, I stopped a FM 2yr old cat called Puma that got chucked out on her own, that has never met another cat and is not neutered.
Mitzee keeps growling and hissing and staring at Puma that is an extremely timid cat, would the same process work? Where I try to distract Mitzee from the staring and vocals?
What is the solution when you're trying to feed on either side of the door and your existing cat stops eating? Our current cat was doing fine for a few days, but now we're on day 5 and site-swapping, and she's either eating much, much less than she always has, or refusing to eat at all. Tonight, I even tried moving her food away from the room the kitten was in and she wouldn't eat it. I can't have her not eating, I understand it's very bad for cats' kidneys to go long periods of time without eating. I'm feeding her the same wet food she has devoured for the last 9 months and begged for more, nothing else has changed but the feeding location and the addition of the kitten in the house.
I'm worried about her, any advice?
Is it okay to free feed because I've been doing it for years and I'm not sure exactly how much my 10 lb kitty needs each day. And then the 3 lb kitten in the bathroom who is constantly meowing… I could easily give them food it's just I don't know how much.
OMG Lydia wont even cuddle with me and looks at me like I've betrayed her. 😢💔
So let’s say you mess it up the first time. Now the new cat won’t stay in their base camp. How do you do a reboot introduction?
