I'm fostering bottle babies and when we had power outages, and I had to be creative. Thankfully it doesn't happen on a regular basis but when it happens it catches you of guard. Especially when you don't know how long it will last. For heating water up, I used the backyard grill; I used hot water bottles for keeping the babies warm. 2 years ago, we invested in a Generac. We had power outages since, and it only takes 20 sec, and we have power again. For us it was worth the cost. This video is great, because we don't think about it until it happens. Thank you for posting a video about it.
Throwback to baby Fergie!
That’s what you did to make your kittens bottle is what my mom did for me. When I was a baby. She couldn’t breast-feed me. She took too many pills.

As a neonate pet caretaker (veterinary assistant?) with incubators & reefered meds, can you not get an exemption from rolling blackouts?
Loadshedding…. 2-4 hours a day sometimes weeks without power in South Africa
Wait a minute, you are telling me that the essential generator to power the essential medicine refrigerator and the essential incubator Does Not use essential oil even though oil is essential for the generator to function? Whoa, mind blown! 😉
Hope you have a whole house generator now.
Chimpy said, I got my fountain back. Whoo-hoo, whoo-hoo.
Hannah, the first thing I thought of the incubator. Fergie says it’s not the same. 3:11
Poor Fergie, loves his bubbling waters !
Kitten Lady, can you do an emergency prep video about fire safety, and setting up an evacuation plan for your animals? I follow a reptile rescue channel (Snake Discovery), them talking about fire preparedness helped me create a plan for my own kitty, and I think you reach a different audience than they do.
I imagine you're always in a good position, because you keep rescue supplies in your car at all times for new kittens on the road, but emphasizing that for your viewers can only help, I think.
So cute lovely kittens adroble
Filling from the canister is much easier and mess-free if you place the canister on the side instead of with the opening to the front.
How warm do you have to keep cats in a country where it's so warm you can walk around in shorts? In our neighborhood there is a tomcat who can hardly stand being at home and travels a lot in the area. Almost every farmer here has several cats that have never seen the inside of the house. In winter you can clearly see their tracks in the snow. They don't care if electricity is available or not.
Solar panels with battery storage. There are solar powered coolers also that might help with storing meds. Heat packs that are single use. They have a permanent generator also that can be installed like an air conditioner.
Spud be like yells in tater tot
Good work
Ok, for anyone who doesn’t know. You’re not supposed to press down on the “safety” and pour a canister. You put the nozzle in the tank like you do when filling a car. That “safety” rests on the lip of the tank and the weight from the canister pushes down on it to keep it open. That way, if the nozzle slips out of the tank, it triggers the “safety” and stops it from spilling gas everywhere. Also, if you leave the nozzle in the tank and the gas fills over the tip of the nozzle, the pressure will stop the gas from over filling the tank.
My first thought for short-term heat (besides your own body) is those "Hotties" hand warmers.
(I know this is an old video but) I just wanna come out there and be your resident Country Girl lolol. We all have out strengths. Making do during hardships is something we're great at. 😛 Love you for all you do!!
i love ur vids
it was so smart to do that
i adore spud
I just want to know if she plugged all the fountains back in for Fergie! It's inhumane to let a cat drink like a peasant!
There was a planned power outage in my neighborhood months ago. The cats were drinking from their water fountain when the power went out. I was out when it happened but my dad told me the cats looked so confused. We have a water bowl for this situation so it worked out. Oh and I live in SoCal as well.
Late to the game but may I recommend reptile warmers? They’re like giant hand warmers that are set up to keep an iguana or snake from entering torpor for 24 hours. We have parakeets and our emergency kit includes hutches and a stack of reptile warmers

Hi! I wanted to show you something I recently found out about, power stations are really popular here in Japan. And you don’t need fuel ! So in the event of a power outage, and you can’t get gas, try a power station, or a Jackery. Or something similar. You can hook up solar panels to it to charge it.
We got on and it works amazing. You can also charge your devices with it. Something to look into
