How can you let him nibble like that?!
I did exactly the same but the pain of my vizsla scraping my skin off is unbearable
So grateful to have found your video. With an 8 month girl Boston, with previous trauma at 9 wks, Livvy actually responded to “heal,” (left side first), and was successful after 20 minutes… in a completely different environment (Brookings, OR, and we live in Montana).
It tells me two things: my girl is really, really smart, and secondly, your technique works. 👍🙏🐶
Please spend some time teaching us how to handle the treat(s) while training. I see you holding a piece of the Stewart beef liver, but how are you feeding it to the puppy? Are you giving him a whole piece each time? Is he just licking it as you teach him walking on leash? Are you holding multiple pieces in your hand? How do you "refill" your hand without breaking the training rhythm? I find that managing the treats is itself a challenge! Show us the "choreograph" of how to hand out the treats to the pup as you're training him. Thanks.
Hello,
Thank you for making so many pf your videos free of charge! We are a single income family, and sog training is out of our reach, so finding your videos have been very helpful.
What about a hyper puppy who bites the leashand is jumping nonstop?
gorgeous pup.
Wish I had watched this when my pup was younger, now I need to retrain 😢
What breed dog is that ?
Bruv this was IT for this boy Knox.. very good info
ust curious, do you really feed ProPlan ?
Great video!! All of the sudden my puppy started going nuts jumping around and pulling on leash after we were working well outside on this. So bizarre. I think i must've worked too long wirh her?? Poor boo boo- I brought her back in (and praised her for how great she'd done) and she sat right next to me. So interesting!! Could this be her saying "hey- you read me correctly. I like that" ☺️ ???( And big note to self- way shorter sessions!!)
1/5 of the video is an ad
I need help with my puppy screaming whenever she sees another dog😭
Wow what breed is this dog?
What about on longer walks outside though? At some point we have to take our 5 month old puppy out to walk
I got annoyed with so much bla bla and nothing about the description, so I moved on.
My seven-month-old Border Collie is doing perfectly — UNTIL it's time to walk on a leash (and sometimes he jumps on people… ugh, but one issue at a time!). I live in the city so there are LOTS of distractions. I have had two other Border Collies in the past, however, we did NOT live in the city, so it was much easier to train those boys outdoors. After looking for two months on YouTube on how to teach Trip how to walk nicely on a leash, I stumbled upon this video. All the other trainers' advice did not work. It was constantly, "pop, pop, pop," which, if you know Border Collies, they can be stubborn at times with these types of corrections, if over-done, although they are super intelligent (it can be a battle of the wits!). Finally, after implementing Tom's techniques, my boy, Trip, is walking extremely well on his leash. I am sure my decision to stop taking him to the dog park (after noticing he was becoming obsessed with other dogs) and, instead, taking him to a nearby field to play fetch on a 50 foot lead for about 40 minutes a day has helped, as well. Two days into training, and he is doing so much better! I used to dread taking him for a walk. Now I am so thrilled at his progress! He even (almost completely now) ignores other dogs — just like my previous Border Collies always did. Thank you, Tom!!!!!
What do you do if a pup just hates a leash i mean freaks out doesnt want to even walk for food
My pup is 5 months and has just begun to pull on a leash we have tried treats but he’s a hound and I guess scents are more important than treats lol.
Yet another super helpful video, THANK YOU!!! I think the idea of the collar makes sense…but the local obedience club here wants us to us a harness 🤔
I tried this method for 2 months and it did not work
M My Chihuahua 12 weeks old too old to young for leash training. I hear you talking about letting them be themselves for a little bit but I don’t have a timeframe on that.
i really need help with my GSD. i got him the month lockdowns started. he's so reactive and my family wants me to have him put down because its cheaper than the prices i've been quoted to train him.
❤
I just got a Ozzie bull mastiff boxer cross I don’t know what to do when they keep biting and trying to play tug a war with the leash when it’s on her
Nice job with the dog, Tom

Currently dog sitting a sweet, totally wild 5mo golden doodle pup (T) and newly living with my sister's fam & her exceptionally gentle-spirited ~3.5yo hound/shar pei/pit mix (R) and struggling to get R to ever EEEVER look at me on walks, and to get T to re-focus on me when he sees another dog anywhere while on walks. I'm not the best trainer for high energy, big personality puppies yet, but I care deeply and just want them to be safe and have a good relationship & clear communication with me/their owners. So I'm practicing my training. The notes on "troubleshooting" with this pup looking down so much were very helpful and I can't wait to try this out with them both (indoors to start, of course!). Thanks a million for all the tiniest details you share with us. Just as they need practice with behaviors, tricks, etc, us humans need practice too.
What type of collar are you using? It looks like a flat, not slip collar. When is it safe to use a slip collar? We have a 3-month-old Samoyed. He loves to please at this point. Thanks!
This was amazing, made a massive difference. It felt like we were auctally on the same page and understanding eachother 😁
👍
❤🔥🔥👌👌
My puppy keeps trying to pull on the leash. It’s very frustrating. I’m hoping this helps.
Thanks for including that you’ve been working with the dog for about 15 minutes. I’ve seen you reference how long you’ve been working on something in other videos and always find it helpful. When done correctly they really can grasp things very quickly, and then it’s our responsibility to practice asking them the same way over and over. It helps to see all of this.
I have just purchased this course. Can’t wait to get started.
It’s good to know I’ve been on the right track with my GSD puppy! She’s 7 months now and does this with me. I’ve taught her so much. Even how to close the doors 😂
Great method for new puppy heal! I am an apprentice currently learning these things. Thank you for adding this to my tool chest 🐾🐾
Does heel mean he's supposed to walk next to my heel?
It is always so fantastic to see how small actions can lead to a big success when timed right.
I just got an a rescue that has minimal training, I LOVE your videos so far! Thank you for sharing I couldn't get anywhere with her the last month it felt like!
Theo is a very smart pup 😅. He was doing the focused heel facsimile really well, until he saw that treat fall to the floor. It was only after that that Theo started walking with his head down on the next few passes! He was distracted by the Mystery of the Missing Treat, but gave up on it when he started getting paid generously to focus UP instead, and keep his nose off the floor. Really food motivated and smart along with it — that's a joy to train 🙂.
Like the reinforcement of what you like and redirection of what you don't
Ok but can we not see it done with a very active puppy that jumps up.
Oh wow..SO insightful. At first I wasn’t sure why you didn’t want him looking down then the lightbulb clicked on..lol..wonderful training video for puppies and maybe for older, shelter dogs who don’t know anything? As always, Tom packs so much knowledge in small teaching moments which is why his videos are so addictive for those of us who want to be better for our canine family members. Gorgeous dog, wondering if he’s a Weimaraner with that beautiful color.
Love this!! I will definitely be using this for my pup since he likes to sniff the ground
We're getting an Australian Shepard puppy in about a month, and my family is doing a bunch of research on dogs to be able to learn and then teach
