I guarantee that Mario was always supposed to have a Brooklyn accent in this movie. I think that Nintendo planned this since they came up with the idea. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have picked Chris Pratt. Mario actually was originally supposed to have Brooklyn accents. So they are returning to that.

If you check the film theory on the Mario bros movie then it all makes sense
Exactly People forget in the eighties mario was officially given a Brooklyn accent. In 64 he got the Italian eccent and Charles Martinet is in the credits meaning he might be doing the grunt/ wahoo sound instead of Pratt! So it might not be a whole movie of Italian eccent but the sound of his jump noise and stuff might still be used!
This will be the best B-movie I'll ever watch, I'm certain of it.

Mario was my childhood so i genuinely prayed that Nintendo won't butcher my lil red italian plumber. And the trailer exceeded my absolute expectations. I shed a tear when I've seen this. The only thing I think it's missing are the Goombas, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings (but maybe the last two of these will appear in a sequel)
I'm glad their going for the 90s Mario cartoon and movie Brooklyn accent.
As much as I like Charle's Martinet's iconic catch phrases and grunts, I'm not sure if I'd want to hear long dialogues in that voice in an hour+ long movie.

there's also a reason Mario sounds exactly like Chris Pratt is portraying him. We haven't heard him speak in full sentences in the games and only heard his catchphrases but if you look into Mario's original backstory you'd know why Chris Pratt is doing a good role voicing him. Mario is an Italian brought up in Brooklyn who works as a plumber and ended up in mushroom kingdom when he fell through a pipe. It makes sense that he sounds like an Italian from Brooklyn instead of full on Italian like people expected him to sound.

I can go along with this voice for Mario. I like his voice in the games but honestly I wouldn't want an entire movie of it so I understand going with Chris Pratt.

I kinda figured for Chris as Mario, they were aiming for his super show voice. if they get a sequel, and more coming, then maybe they’ll go deep. to me, I kinda like that.

I think, If I make a really big effort, I can get past the voice, and if I can do that, then the movie looks awesome.
