Formed in the summer of 1964, the New York Art Quartet existed for barely a year and a half, yet great interest still remains in their work. Consisting of John Tchicai (alto sax), who participated in John Coltrane’s groundbreaking Ascension album and Roswell Rudd (trombone), considered to be the first free-jazz trombonist and on this recording Finn von Eyben (bass) and South African drummer Louis Moholo (drums). This release features all previously unheard recordings from 1965 with very high-quality sonics. In the 8 page booklet are never before seen photos and a short, informative essay.
