It did not work
Definitely an attention seeker for my orange tabby. So guilty of falling into his trap 😂 he’s just so cute and i missed him so much too
I've learned some life-changing keys from Jackson and recently from Cesar Millan too. It's still a work in progress for me and my little 6 lb. power house dilute tortie – who I'm sure has some Siamese communication skills in her genes. For now, I can share our success at meal time: In line with Jackson's recommendations, we do Hunt-Catch-Kill before breakfast. She wakes up rearing to go for that event. She's not interested at lunch, but is ready for more play soon after dinner. That's foundational – she's got to have that outlet for her energy. As for the MEOWing, specifically around meal time… nothing I previously tried made a different in the long run. Then recently I found inspiration from Cesar Millan. He demonstrates helping dogs, in a variety of cases, to be calm around food. He talks about using "calm-assertive energy" and in some cases mostly just patiently waits for the dog to calm down. Of course his methods are designed for dogs, but I took the basics and tailored my approach. All I do now is the simplest thing ever: I prepare her food, then with her plate in hand walk over to a chair that's adjacent to her food mat. I calmly sit down, then patiently wait for my cat to calm herself down – which she does, and did very quickly even the first time! As soon as she calms herself, she sits down – that's how I know she's calm. The shift in her energy is palpable, and she's absolutely quiet. That's when I put her meal down and calmly say either, Good Quiet, Good Sit, or Good Girl"… thinking to settle on one expression soon. Anyway, I'm doing what Jackson says, 'reward immediately' so she associates the reward with the desired action. It's working. It's like we've broken through a communication gap where her over-excitement and my tension are gone now. I'm amazed. After years of nearly losing my mind over those meows to find this is possible, and that the shift could happen so fast. She does sometimes still have a little to say when I'm walking over to her mat, but not much, and that's when I practice Jackson's advice to ignore. The combination of advice from Jackson and Cesar is making all the difference!
Oh god, my cat has been meowing all the time recently. I just dished out money for the vet to get her checked out, she came back clean other than being constipated. Maybe I've been rewarding her every time she does it because I've been less busy so I have more time for her 😅 At least now I know that I have to come to her when she's not being noisy
Mr.Butts, my young male (intact) keeps freaking meowing like he is lost or calling the ladies outside EVERY. NIGHT.
as soon as the two other ones are sleeping/out of his sight… if my daughter is not at the house.. if I watch tv in the bedroom instead of living room.. he meows.. loud.. constantly… he never saw other cats than the ones I have..
testosterone I know… but is there aaaanything I can do to cut it down at least a little bit..
When baby goes to sleep, he meows right in front of her door and wakes her up… I just can’t anymore hahahaha
He will get fixed VERY SOON! But in the meantime…
WHYYYYYYY does he do thaaaaat
What can I doooooo hahaha
Edit: 🫣😅 I should have waited until I got to the end of the video before freaking out… like that cat of mine does 😂🤦♀️. #5 makes so much sens.
But I clearly think that’s a Gabby case. God knows why..
the cats doesn’t even know why he meows sometimes I’m pretty sure.
One thing sure tho: he IS annoying
But we do love him
❤Mr.Butts
Oh I have a chatty catty maybe he can help me -Siamese, don't have a cure…. Damn. 2:06
I had a cat that never shut up inless he was asleep! Love cats always had them but had to rehome him sorry.
My cat stopped meowing when i fed it some barfi, which in pakistan is pretty much solidified milk. Mofo just gobbled it up like damn.
I have a male cat, just recently let him outside, all he wants to go out, meows all day.only one out of 4 cats
Lord that is my 4 month old kitten hope she outgrows it.
Rocky is driving me mad so much that I am with an inch of taking him back to the shelter because I CAN'T STAND IT. He goes and sits by the door leading to the garage and about 18% of the time he actually wants to go out there, but all the other times he wants: food, brushing, petting, and 75% of the time I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT. He learned that he can get attention from my older cat (who now has stopped doing it … I used to want to kill her, too). I try ignoring him, I really do, but he can go on for half an hour before he gives up and then often comes back and starts again 15 minutes later. And that damned door is in the living room which is open to the kitchen, where I spend virtually all the time I'm not sleeping. Tonight I have brushed him and fed him and he doesn't want to go into the garage. It's mostly not even meowing, it's trilling either sadly or whining-ly. And of course the only way I can tell if he wants to go out is to get up. I tried to push him out the door once tonight (I know, I know, but I was enraged by then), but he got away and I fell instead. I am 74 and falling is not the greatest activity on my list. Screaming at him finally got him to shut up for a bit. Hell, I'm just venting. Either I have his larynx removed or I burst my own eardrums, I guess. Oh, and by the way, he won't cuddle on the couch, and I am unable to sit on the floor because it is so hard to get up again. Sorry.
I feed him at regular times but before he’s eaten and right around dinner time, he meows at me constantly as soon as i stand up to do anything. So he meows the entire time im preparing his food. How do i get him to not associate meowing with being fed when he wont stop until he eats? Ive tried feeding him multiple smaller meals throughout the day and just before bed and it doesnt change anything.
I have a 6 month old kitten and he meows all the time when not eating or sleeping, I dont know what it is, everyone we talk to assures us its normal but its very hard, we’ve lost a significant amount of sleep, to the point I think our mood is starting to affect it, which is dangerous
TYSM FOR THIS IT HELPS SO MUCH!!!
I meow back
I have 4 cats and I work away from home during the week so when I come home only my boys meow when I’m home and the girls cuddle up and ask for as much pets and love they can get
We should talk about uncles that love asking favours from younger nephews and nieces
Appreciate this video.
We adopted Maya, a tortishell calico 10+ years ago. She was about 5 years old at the time & had been returned to the shelter a few times. She has always been chatty. For the most part, it's been cute/fine & we'd just meow back like we're having a conversation. She has various tones that I've been able to decipher (just talking/wants attention, food, to go outside, or isn't feeling well). However, the last year+ she has increased meowing beyond annoying so much so I'm considering rehoming her (to my daughter a few states away, convinced this wouldn't be an issue for her). I love my cat but she is keeping us from sleep, every night, not exaggerating.
The reason- is apparently that she wants a never-ending fountain of tuna. She has access to water & kibble 24/7. Used to give her tuna/chicken/egg on occasion. But one day, I guess she decided it needed to be "whenever I want it & Idc if it is 3am". I did not give into this behavior because I never wanted her to think that meowing (esp incessantly) would get her what she wants. I did notice that in normal course of a day at the times when I did give her some tuna that she'd get quiet for a good while. But now anytime anyone is near the kitchen she starts with the nonstop meowing.
She's perfectly healthy, hasn't seemed to have aged hardly at all besides the 3 gray hairs that have popped up the last couple of years. She is the fastest domestic cat I think I've ever seen, very agile even at top speed, very loving, tolerant of the dogs, really a cool cat…but has just become overwhelming. Did I mention she can also be extremely loud?! Neighbors have commented. Some even think that it is because she is hungry- so many times have found food out in the courtyard area near our door. I did write a community post to tell the neighbors about her so that they could know that she is just chatty, not neglected or starved, there is always someone at home & she always has access to what she needs.
I have thought that it could have something to do with her age, have tried the toy route, never thought about clicker training for her. She has places she can look outside, but we live in AZ and we're kind of tucked into an alcove/not much going on outside…so maybe that has something to do with it. However, we've lived here for 5 years so Idk. We're getting ready to move, so perhaps we'll see a change providing she sees more action or something in the new place. Otherwise, I think I'm going to have to drive her up to my daughter's place in Oregon, which I really don't want to do.
Thanks for the tips and insight. Wish us luck 😊
I just lost it and screamed back at my cat because it’s the most annoying loud meow like a thousand times a day for a year- I want to cry I don’t want to scream at her and scare her. Because she doesn’t really change her tone at all, so I can’t even tell what she wants. If I ignore her she doesn’t stop. One night I closed the door on her and she scratched rivets in the door. I’ve had her since she was 2 months old.
She’s a sweetie and a good sister but this is just so much 😭😭😭😭
I cannot express how grateful I am for you Jackson. I worked in veterinary medicine for 10 years, my last job was at a specialty clinic that was cat-only. I dont think most vets know everything you know when it comes to behavioral issues. I am so so grateful you do what you do. For the kitties, and those of us who love them so dearly.
She cries CONSTANTLY ! I have never considered rehoming a cat before but she cries and cries and cries and cries. I feel guilty for having these thoughts. She has done it since she was a very small kitten, when I rescued her. She is very healthy.
Cats just special ed that’s what it isn
I have two OSH sisters, it’s never quiet in our house, especially come bedtime but we absolutely love it and wouldn’t change it 😊
